Jacques Leslie ("The Last Empire") covered China for the Los Angeles Times in the mid-1970s. His most recent book is Deep Water: The Epic Struggle Over Dams, Displaced People, and the Environment.

 

The work of photographer James Whitlow Delano ("The Last Empire") is featured in Inside China, a National Geographic Society book published in 2007.

 

Mariah Blake ("Let There Be Light Crude"), a former staff writer for the Columbia Journalism Review, is now a freelance journalist based in Hamburg, Germany.

 

Yuko Shimizu ("Let There Be Light Crude") illustrates for everything from The New Yorker to mtv. She's at work on a new can design for Pepsi.

 

James Sterngold ("Failure to Launch") spent 18 years at the New York Times, where he contributed to a Pulitzer Prize-winning 9/11 package. More recently he covered national security for the San Francisco Chronicle.

 

Mother Jones reporter Josh Harkinson ("Paul's Apostles") says that writing about Ron Paul "felt like reporting on a revolution—until I turned off my computer."

Kurt Pitzer ("Off Target") covered the invasion of Iraq and cowrote a book on wmd with Saddam Hussein's top nuclear scientist.

 

Vivienne Walt ("Never Mind the Mullahs") spent two years in Iraq, where a bullet once lodged in her car seat. Based in Paris, she's been nominated twice for the Pulitzer Prize.

 

David Corn ("Drop Dead Fred") heads up Mother Jones' Washington, D.C., bureau, where Stephanie Mencimer ("Crayons Down!" and "Meet the Attack Lads") is a reporter.

 

Adam Weinstein ("Stop the Press Releases!") is a journalism student, Navy veteran, and two-day Jeopardy champion. He's written for the Village Voice and is working on a line of children's books with his fiancee.

 

Associate editor Kiera Butler ("Works Well With Others") enjoys a day at the office. Really!

 

Nicole McClelland ("SugarDaddy.com") is Mother Jones' copy editor and has no immediate plans to become a sex worker.
