For our special issue on the future of energy, we tapped some of the country's best thinkers on the topic, including Bill McKibben ("The Greenback Effect"), who's been writing about climate change since the 1980s; The End of Oil author Paul Roberts ("The Seven Myths of Energy Independence"), whose book, The End of Food, is out in June; and The Republican War on Science author Chris Mooney ("Fossil Fools"), whose 2005 Mother Jones exposé on ExxonMobil funding climate-change skeptics was nominated for a National Magazine Award. His new book is Storm World: Hurricanes, Politics, and the Battle Over Global Warming.

A former art director for the New York Times' op-ed page, illustrator Mirko Ilić ("The Seven Myths of Energy Independence") is coauthor of The Design of Dissent.

Judith Lewis ("The Nuclear Option") writes for LA Weekly and is at work on a layperson's guide to nuclear power. Since learning of high radon levels in her basement as a child, she's been obsessed with all things radioactive.

Jennifer Kahn ("Breaking the Gridlock") is a contributing editor at Wired and has written for National Geographic, Outside, and Discover.

Contributing writer Joshua Kurlantzick ("Put a Tyrant in Your Tank") is the author of Charm Offensive: How China's Soft Power Is Transforming the World. Sean McCabe, who's illustrated for Fortune, Penthouse, and Spin, was discovered after making a poster for a friend's band.

MoJo contributing writer and blogger Debra J. Dickerson ("The Myth of the Moral Majority") has twice tangled with Stephen Colbert. Edel Rodriguez has illustrated three children's books, and in 2005 he designed a postage stamp of a dancer doing the cha-cha.
