Bob Perry (with Doylene) March 5, 2001 Bob Perry, CEO of Perry Homes, one of the largest builders in Texas, has long supported conservative causes, particularly efforts to limit lawsuits against companies that injure workers or consumers. In 1998, Perry donated $85,000 to Texans for Lawsuit Reform, one of the state's largest special interest groups. That same year, according to the lobby watchdog group Texans for Public Justice, the group contributed more than $1 million to the campaign of John Cornyn, the Republican state attorney general and former Texas Supreme Court justice known for supporting big business. Last year, according to the Washington Post, Perry was among the top donors to the Republican Majority Issues Committee, a group allied with House Majority Whip Tom DeLay (R-Texas). Perry gave $50,000 to the RMIC, which mobilized conservative donors in a dozen swing House districts. He also gave $140,000 to the Republican Party and its committees, and donated $10,000 to a political action committee that supported John Ashcroft in his re-election bid. -- Suzanne Boothby | | |
