Sarah Palin: Why Can't Polar Bears Just Leave Those Poor Oil Companies Alone?
Oh, Sarah Palin. I'm sick of hearing your name already. But I'll say it once more because there is evidence that Ms.Palin may be a global warming-denier. Palin has said that she's "unconvinced" human emissions are contributing to global warming. "Science will tell us," her spokesman said. "She thinks the jury's still out." If by "jury" she means "the Bible," then yes, the jury is still out. But if "jury" means scientific consensus, then Palin needs to check out the IPCC's site or pick up an issue of Nature.
Though Palin may not believe in global warming, she does believe that polar bears are just fine, thank you very much. She sued the federal government in an attempt to derail their delayed listing of polar bears as an endangered species. In addition, Palin is in favor of drilling vital polar bear habitat in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, maybe in part because her husband works for BP. I don't know if Palin is motivated to support oil companies for love or for money. Either way, with her as Vice President, life will look even bleaker for those ice-dependent polar bears.
Comments
The jury IS still out on global warming. This summer was one of the coolest on record! Let me guess, global warming had something to do with that, too, right? I am certain that the earth goes through climate change, but perhaps, just perhaps, sometimes it's natural, and we can't do anything about it!
No, the verdict is in, and U R A mongrel.

However, I think the choice is such a gift to Obama it must be the result of McCain's nursing staff giving him the wrong medication.

I don't get it. I can drive from out here in the boonies into town and when I get close I can tell the difference in the air. It can take a day or two to recover from such a trip. I don't need scientists to tell me something's wrong. With or without global warming, why do we seem hellbent on making more smog? This is the air we breathe we're talking about here.

It's time for a change and Governor Sarah Palin will shake up Washington. Governor Palin is a tough executive who has demonstrated during her time in office that she is ready to be president. She has brought Republicans and Democrats together within her Administration and has a record of delivering on the change and reform that we need in Washington.
Governor Palin has challenged the influence of the big oil companies while fighting for the development of new energy resources. She leads a state that matters to every one of us -- Alaska has significant energy resources and she has been a leader in the fight to make America energy independent.
In Alaska, Governor Palin challenged a corrupt system and passed a landmark ethics reform bill. She has actually used her veto and cut budgetary spending. She put a stop to the "bridge to nowhere" that would have cost taxpayers $400 million dollars.
As the head of Alaska's National Guard and as the mother of a soldier herself, Governor Palin understands what it takes to lead our nation and she understands the importance of supporting our troops.
Governor Palin has the record of reform and bipartisanship that others can only speak of. Her experience in shaking up the status quo is exactly what is needed in Washington today.

Wait, there are seriously still people in denial about global warming? Even after major companies are making the effort to "go green"? Such as car companies? Palmolive and clorox with their cleaning products? Clothing companies making recycled and organic products?
So basically everyone believes in global warming except Sarah Palin... right. Awesome, if McCain wins the presidency we'll probably be involved in 3 more wars and have killed all the polar bears while flooding our coasts...

To all who site cool temps in SUMMER as a sign that everythings A-OK: think about what you're really saying. You're using a freakish scenario to try to prove that nothing is awry? Think about equal and opposite reactions, think about how global warming may have nothing to do with heat increasing all the time, think about how cold it could really get when the bottom swings out. Think about why you're so damn happy at the abnormality of seasons. Think about why you're eating tomatos in December. Think about how your average meal* (*term used loosly) will travel much further than you will this year. Think about the wave of alarm clocks going on in unison across the four time zones we occupy and how daily a mass of exhaust is released over our childrens and pets and husbands and wives heads so that one species can compete for few resources. Think about how species diversity was the train you rode to get to this station and think about the annalihation of habitat not for gain but for loss, not for success but for failing. Think about how a 100 year old invention designed to emmit exhaust in the form of 03 is undoing 14billion years of chaotic bliss by creating a smoggy veil just over our homes that ebbs and flows as much as any wave on any shore. Think about how on a biological timescale the modern human has existed for a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of time yet weve been able to record and have awareness of thousands of species that have patently disappeared over the span of a few decades. Then, when you've considered all those thoughts take note of the temperature and record it dutifully at the top right hand corner of your suicide letter. Cold in summer... yep, proof indeed.

28 Aug 08 – “Some scientists believe that an extreme cooling episode, potentially a mini-ice age, is imminent. Others think that it may already be under way.
“There is another possible explanation for—or, at least, influence on—climate change. This involves natural factors, most notably the Sun and Earth's oceans. We at the Almanac are among those who believe that sunspot cycles and their effects on oceans correlate with climate changes. Studying these and other factors suggests that a cold, not warm, climate may be in our future.

"Alaska has significant energy resources and she has been a leader in the fight to make America energy independent."
Significant compared to what? My back yard? or Iraq? As for energy independence, that certainly is not going to happen with the amount of oil the US consumes. We consume 20 million barrels a day. How much is in Alaska, a year or two worth ? It wont even dent the opec set market price, much less make us "independent".
Churchill had this discussion prior to WWI with the navy. They realized they needed overseas oil and had to secure foreign sources. They also thought about shale and liquified coal and dismissed it.

I had thought from an earlier (late 1980s-90s-ish??) belief that "global warming" would cause cooler summers and warmer winters...
We still don't know enough to know for sure. I mean, 25-30 years from now, today's science will seem 'dumb & silly'. There was a movie from the 80s(??) called "The Jupiter Effect" and it used then-current beliefs that there was so much excess ice on the Poles (do to the unusually cold period that the planet was going through) that Earth was in dire danger of 'flip-flopping' end-over-end, causing floods of Biblical proportion.
Oh sure, they were wrong but the science of today is '...more accurate?! What conceit and naivety!!
In 30 years, the scientific beliefs of today beliefs will be as laughable (and incorrect) as this movie is today. And if you don't have enough to worry about, -when that 'killer asteroid' that they've been tracking hits Earth in about 30 years, air pollution will seem like a vacation in Disneyland...

If the weather changes are natural occurrences as shown by the earths past(one side of the argument) or global warming caused by man.Either way, we have a big problem. If mankind can change behaviours; stop polluting the environment, isn't this a lot easier than trying to effect major changes in the normal cycle mother nature. As another poster pointed out, shouldn't we eliminate smog no matter who is "right"!!!!!

I'm quoting my letter to the local paper, Valley News on this one: (I hope you can stand the irony)
"Open Letter to Sarah Palin
Dear Sarah Palin, are you a Jesus freak?
To grasp the meaning of the question, let us phrase it differently. You hunt and you fish but you do not seem to have interest in preserving game. You want to drill for oil in the Tongas wild life preserve. Is it your policy to eschew concern about conserving life and resources because Jesus is going to come and save the world anyhow?
Does clinging to coming Jesus or Jesus coming free the mind from worry and responsibility related to serving the Gaia earth and instead concentrate on promoting ourselves and our progeny, the vanguard of the saved? Likewise would the triumph of creationism in the schools eliminate all this intellectual burden of finding out what leads to what and leave it all to the Genesis?
But, on the other hand ,suppose the great coming is postponed longer than we think, then shouldn’t we conserve the world and its scientific knowledge for the sake of believers who will still be living after us to tell the “Only Truth”?

Sarah Palin represents just the same old, same old corrupt "illuminoids" that keep the world in technologies that are harmful to the health of our planet Earth. We forget that we too are Nature. We are the Earth. The North American Aboriginals believe that everything in Nature is like a web. Whatever we do to this web, we do it to ourselves. Curiously, in Quantum Physics this belief is translated into "every atom is interlaced in a net that spans the entire globe. Whatever is inculcated on one part the whole of the Earth suffers the ripples too". Our planet is a living organism, it has a life force. Presently, we are desecrating it for money. We cannot eat, drink, and breathe money. The Natives know this, but unfortunately, politicians like S. Palin are completely in the dark as to the inner workings of Mother Earth, and only see dollar signs. They are mere puppets in the game played by the "reptilian puppet masters", the shadow, super government, the so called "illuminati", that force petroleum, coal, nuclear and bio-fuels as energy solutions while sound green technologies such as solar, geo-thermal and the unlimited radiant energy invented by Nikola Tesla and many more scientists are suppressed to keep this elite controlling the socio-economic affairs of the entire globe. The world's economic and political affairs are in the hands of a few powerful men who control international banks and government institutions, such as the United Nations and the World Bank. Their power permeates all sectors of society and can cause artificial economic recessions for their own gain. They own the Federal Reserve which makes the IRS and the income tax illegal according to the Constitution. They generate "money out of nothing", since they do not have the gold reserves to back it. This elite are the keepers of this slave, feudal reality that is designed to subjugate everyone and the natural world to their own self-interests and self-importance. This is why there is no solution to poverty, for this system is designed to create scarcity for the majority of ordinary citizens while the elite lives in shameful opulence. They own the Government, and S.Palin is another opportunistic, power-money hungry politician like the rest. This is why the great nation of the United States of America is collapsing, following the path of past empires where corruption corrodes away its foundations.

We're actually in a 10,000 year warming trend called a Holocene which is the beginning part of a 100,000 year ice age. So global warminf is real, everything will melt, it is inevitable as designed by nature. However, our actions in burning fossil fuels has only accelerated the process, and thus we are ushering in significant climate change that may happen too quickly for our species to adapt to. It is an issue, and polar bears are living creatures. She needs to be compassionate towards other living life - shouldn't be that hard considering her stance on abortion.

Brief climatic improvement (AD 1460-1560).

Modern climatic optimum (AD 1890-2000).
Magnetic field strength has waned 10 to 15 percent over the past 150 years, the article says, and the deterioration has accelerated. “The fact that it (magnetic field strength) is dropping so rapidly gives you pause,” says Dr. John A.
