Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How much of an article can I excerpt in my own publication?
A: You may excerpt a reasonable amount of the article. Please do not excerpt a majority of an article or quote heavily with first contacting our reprints department at email@example.com. It is never acceptable to quote in a manner that changes the original meaning. If you have any doubts about whether you’re excerpting too much, please contact us.
Q: Can I print and make photocopies of your stories for my own use?
A: You may print up to 30 photocopies of an article for educational purposes only and noncommercial use. You must contact Mother Jones via the permissions form above to clear additional copies or for other uses of material.
Q: What if I want to use a chart that I saw in Mother Jones?
A: News organizations and noncommercial users are welcome to reasonably repost Mother Jones charts online with an appropriate credit; for other uses, please contact Mother Jones through the form above.
Q: What if I want to use a video from Mother Jones?
A: If we have enabled embedding, you are welcome to repost our video; for all other uses, please contact Mother Jones through the form above.
Q: What if I want to use a photo from Mother Jones, or a piece of interactive or multimedia reporting?
A: Please contact Mother Jones through the form above to request permission.
Q: I see articles on Mother Jones that were first published elsewhere, and I sometimes see Mother Jones articles reprinted in full on other outlets. What’s all that about?
A: With certain publications, we have established syndication agreements to share content on a more regular basis. In other cases, we ourselves will seek permission to reprint an article that we like. If you might be interested in syndicating content more regularly from Mother Jones, please contact us at permissions [at] motherjones [dot] com.
Q: Still have questions not addressed above?
