Kucinich's UFO Sighting: What He Really Saw

kucinichbelieve250.jpg

Dennis Kucinich has taken a lot of flack for saying that he once saw an unidentified flying object near Shirley MacLaine's house back in 1982. The Wall Street Journal just did a front-page story on it, adding to the Kucinich-as-silly-person storyline. But what if he really did see something—just not an alien spaceship? That's the skeptical-yet-speculative theory being floated over at Cannonfire:

The sighting took place in Washington state near Mt. Ranier, where the "flying saucer" craze was born.

Judging from the description of the three vehicles witnessed that day, I theorize that the party saw a test of prototype UAVs, or drones. Such unmanned reconnaissance craft were little-known at the time. They are well-known nowadays, since they play a major role in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Although the early development of unmanned craft is not easy for outsiders to trace, these devices do have a long history. Marilyn Monroe, in the days before she had that name, once worked for a company producing the first mass-produced UAVs.

The Kucinich sighting took place in Graham, Washington, situated directly between Mount Ranier and McChord Air Force Base. (The mountain is some twenty miles away from the base.) The report indicates that the craft were flying toward McChord. After the flyover, Kucinich's party saw military helicopters in the area.

Then how to explain MacLaine's claim that during the sighting Kucinich felt "a connection in his heart and heard directions in his mind"? No doubt the Department of Peace would want to keep that love-drone technology in its arsenal.

I just saw Kucinich and his wife in a Manchester Radisson. Honestly, she's almost like another life form.

Perhaps it was a Marian apparition? You forgot to mention the scent of roses he noticed as well!

Perhaps it isn't military craft which is a dumber notion than extraterrestrials. You don't test your experimental top secret aircraft over public highways and cities, do you? No.

Why people keep bringing up a top secret aircraft explanation is because they don't have any other plausible explanation, so that is the explanation they hold on to for fear it might be something else. Something beyond our understanding and control.

Fear makes people laugh nervously and helps to keep them arrogant, ignorant, and head-in-the-box happy. Much like your article has done.

As a social / environmental activist, I am surprised with the amount of sarcasm being shown here by supposedly critical thinkers. Instead of trying to explain away what he saw, we should be looking at why the term UFO (coined by the US Airforce) elicits such ridicule.

Even the Air Force's skeptical chief investigator of UFO sightings during the 60s (when mass UFO sightings were making the front pages of the Washington Post and other major papers) did an about face by the 80s and felt that they were technological machines capable of feats that UAVs ---or any other aerial technology we have--- are incapable of matching.

So why the ridicule? Kucinich was affected enough by the sighting that he has supported disclosure efforts behind the scenes. The same thing happened to Carter. He made promises on the campaign trail to declassify any/all info on the UFO phenomenon. When he was a congressman, Gerald Ford made similar serious calls for investigations after his office was inundated with calls from witnesses to hundreds of sightings from across his state.

Yet we are more than happy to go after Kucinich.

Kucinich is right. A great many of Americans have seen UFOs, including the Nobel Peace Prize winner, and former president, Carter.

Mr. Gilson,

I'd be very interested in your substantive analysis of Kucinich's positions on the issues. As a Kucinich supporter, I haven't been able to find much commentary on his proposals, mainly because the best and brightest in the media seem to find it more worthwhile to score cheap laughs. I don't mind the humor so much, it just seems like there are never any authentic critiques of the campaign, and I am genuinely interested in the viability of his platform.

So the next time you feel like taking a crack at Kucinich regarding his height, or appearance, or wife, or sightings, etc, etc, please resist that urge and consider discussing how his policy proposals will affect me, my family, fellow Americans and fellow citizens of the world. I'll be all the more grateful for it, and you will have provided a valuable public service.

Thanks.

(NY Times Story)
Now who in their right mind believes what they read in a newspaper

Why would Mother Jones post such a snyde and cynical piece?

I agree with Scott. I'm amazed MoJo would stoop to spreading this corporate hack job on Kucinich. The MSM is where I choose not to go to get my info, so please don't post their cynical propaganda here.

It's vital to our security to trivialize and marginalize anyone who would challenge the status quo. People should get their minds off worrisome things like the economy and war and start concentrating on UFO's and movie stars.

I had that "talking into my mind" experience near a military installation (Otis) in Massachusetts in 2000. It is weird and hard to explain, and no, I am not schizophrenic. During that incident, my husband was taken away for an examination, and a triangle of flesh was neatly cut off his foot. We both lost three hours of time. He remembered a lot of it and it scared him. I think I just saw some drones here on November 17, 2007, in Saint-Denis France. There was a big police op in my nabe seven days later -- they may have been there to observe. But I felt they could "see" me, and were winking at me! Weird.

Are we getting ready for Fake UFO invasion?

Stephenville Flying Saucer a beginning of something?

Hundreds of people saw it hovering over their town, yet our government immediately went on the offense and tried to convince these people to not believe ' their lying eyes."
We are at the crossroads on this planet and its obvious in our weather patterns. All of the ancient civilizations have pointed to 2012 as a time when a change would be and had to be made for this planet to move forward.
So when someone describes a flying saucer that is 1 mile long and ½ mile wide it should have been a front-page story in every newspaper and the lead story on every television. It was one of the few UFO stories to actually make the press but most of the press coverage was tongue in cheek, and it was obvious the broadcasters were laughing at the people of Stephenville.

We have 20 UFO sightings a month and nearly 300 a year and we are suppose to believe that all of these people saw weather balloons or light bouncing off of passing airplanes. Bull.
In the meantime we are being fed a presidential campaign with Obama and Clinton on a nightly bases, the war in Iraq and a floundering economy. These stories are intended to take our minds off of something that I feel is very sinister in the background.
We have an unpopular president and vice president that act as though they are not leaving office and care very little about how the public feels about them. So I am proposing a theory that others in the blog world are also mulling over.
Is our government working with extraterrestrials being and getting ready for a fake UFO invasion that will suspend the elections indefinitely and keep Bush and Cheney in office through 2012? I firmly believe that something of this nature is happening if not a UFO of that size can only be used for an invasion and is certainly not and observation vehicle

I am a little skeptical...

Well, He very well probably

Well, He very well probably just saw a UFO an Unidentified flying object. That doesn't necessarily mean it is flown by an alien from outer space. Come on people...
