Biggest Political Liability of the Campaign Season? George W. Bush
For those who may be getting overheated on the Jeremiah Wright thing. From NBC New's First Read:
...according to the latest NBC/WSJ poll, the biggest political albatross heading into November is — drum roll, please — George Bush. In the poll, 43% say McCain being too closely aligned to Bush and his policies is a major concern. That's compared with 36% who say that about Clinton's apparent flip-flops; 34% who say that about Obama's bitter-guns-religion remark; 32% who say that about Wright and Bill Ayers; 31% who say that about Clinton's honesty and trustworthiness; 27% who say that about Bill Clinton having too much influence on policy decisions; 17% who that about Obama not being patriotic enough; and 16% who believe McCain might be too old.

Shocker! But no different from what Gore faced in 2000. Gore had to keep his distance from Clinton while using him to rally the lemmings.
You'll see McCain using Bush for the right-wing-nut-jobs and religious zealots, but they will rarely appear together in public.
Why should Obama's preacher's remarks be an issue? Think of the pastoral relations of Republicans, one after another of whom have good rleations with (or have even used, directly, in government) the anti-Semitic Billy Graham, the incendiary and egregious (and thankfully, late) Jerry Falwell, with the out-and-out crook, Pat Robertson, and McCain of course with Parsley and with Hager and probably other Biblegogues from the rank swamps of the South. It's time for the Dems to stop being doormats and stand up and attack McCain for HIS dubious associates.
Did you know that Falwell was in attendance at a party at Dick and Lynne Cheney's home, along with Richard Perle, Rumsfeld, and other neocons, to celebrate "victory" in Iraq on the night after the invasion. Did you know that the group toasted Cheney with the words, "Here's to the President of the United States." This was not a reference to Bush. The story was made public by the (happily) idiotic Falwell. (My source, Craig Unger.)
