McCain's Houses: The Gift that Keeps on Giving
The McCains spend more each year on house staff ($273,000), than the average American's home is worth ($266,000).
Update: McCain isn't commenting on this story. But that doesn't mean he's not out and about!
McCain, who huddled with advisors at his desert compound in Sedona, Ariz., said nothing in public. A nine-car motorcade took him to a nearby Starbucks early in the morning, where he ordered a large cappuccino. McCain otherwise avoided reporters.
Late update: The McCain's spent more on household help than they gave to charity.

9 cars to go get a cappuccino? That is some energy plan there...
They're spending $273K on house staff, and there's nobody around to fix him a cappucino?
How do we know that the 9 cars weren't filled with house staff, who John was taking along to treat them to a cappuccino?
Or maybe everybody got a share of one 'Large' that he ordered?
We don't really know what the hell was going on there, but we can make all sorts of assumptions, one just as (in)valid as the next.
Aren't there a couple of military occupations we ought to be asking McCain & Obama about?
A trashed economy and a collapsing dollar?
Massive deficit spending by the Congress that someone might want to examine..?
Why this nonsense about how big a candidate's house is, or how many he owns?
Rich?
Yeah, so what?
George Washington was the richest president this country ever had, and few would say he was a bad one.
Kennedy ranks as the 2nd richest. How bad would you say that made him?
John Kerry would have been the third richest ever, and I'd like to see how much you argued against electing Kerry on that basis.
Get Real
Get An ISSUE
It is not how rich or poor - it is about the sheer rank hypocrisy McCain uses when calling Barack elite and out of touch.
The issue exposes McCain for the "country club" republican he truly is and always has been.
Not that there is anything wrong with that - just the pretending he is something he is not - that is still called dishonest - something he also has accused others of.
Wealthy?OK Hypocrite?OK The scandal here is that, without a script in front of him, McCain is unable to respond to any questions. I think anyone could have managed to defuse it by explaining they hold real estate investments. Remember the Viagra vs. birth control question? Causes me to wonder just WHO is behind the curtain working the controls. It sure aint him!
Correct me if I'm wrong, Capt..., but I don't see anything in this article other than crap about how much money the McCains have, and how the reporter believes they spend it.
His wealth DOES seem to be the issue, no matter what you say.
We could also go into the value of the Obama house, and their mobster friend who set them up with the purchase..., but I say forget that crap. I'd MUCH rather push the media to spend a few column-inches on REAL Issues, and not manufactured "gotcha's". Seems to be a loosing cause, when the public defends the media for spoon-feeding us the distracting crap the campaigns would rather have us talking about. But I don't intend to be disuaded by that.
Hypocracy would define all of Congress. McCain is not alone. Congress IS a country club and it's members, every one of them, are so out of touch with reality it is unbelievable. Why people fail to see this is astounding to me. THAT is the point.
Ask both candidates and the all about 73 member sof Congress who are supporters of this... why they don't talk about, or support, the FairTax. This is a bill that would eliminate all federal income taxes, eliminate the IRS, eliminate lobbiests and the ability of members of Congress to manipulate the 70,000 page tax code to their advantage to create handouts for those who hand them the cash to stay in office. Ask and see what they say?
Money is power and money and power have corrupted this govt. and Congress beyond repair. They are out of touch, and you, my fellow citizens, are out of mind.
obama is desperate....mccain is successfull ok.good for him...obama is an inexperienced social worker who really isnt qualified to be a senator much less president, he s got to find some thing, but he s got some shady stuff in his millions, he s hollow and somebodies sales job...somebody is backing him with big money, internet money?gimme a break...if people cant see through this, we deserve a bad future...this is a joke
In American it is good to be rich, 5 million dollars worth, according to McCain, no wonder he just can't relate to those who live on a heck of a lot less. Of course he says the economy is good, that is, for the rich person and why not give them tax breaks, they must be much better than poor people. At least he tries to spread the wealth around by having all that help, giving them jobs, isn't that what the rich are supposed to do anyway. Well, I can tell you we don't need the likes of him for president. Obama in 2009!!!

Well, I spend more on my household (no staff though) than I gave to charity...

Whatever happened to REAL issues? Why is Bush so anxious to resurrect the Iron Curtain and sacrifice Poland and Georgia while dodging mythical missles from Iran? Hell, we built fences to keep out a few Mexicans who pose NO terrorist threat and now we want some billion $ radar'patch'(it will be only good for propaganda) to placate the ravenous neocons who are still hoping that Israel nuke Iran and the USA will revive the SSS to 'pitch in'.
How many houses does the MoJo staff own?
Why didn't they ask him how many mortgages he has? Owning seven or eight houses may mean nothing if all the equity adds up to zero. And what is he to do if they are adjustible rate, and they're all gonna balloon on him in January? If he doesn't get elected president, where will he get the cash to avoid foreclosure? I think we all should do our part by drinking an extra Budweiser or two, so his wife can loan him a few million to get him over the hump... Senator, this Bud's for you!
McCain's salary as a U.S.senator is not $273,000
a year.He does not have inherited wealth. His first wife was not a fiscal mastermind. He claims to have very little knowledge of economics.i.e.Banking,
investing, stock markets. How in heavens name did he amass
a "Queens Ransom"?
McCain's double-speak has shown him to be a wolf in sheep's clothing. Anyone who thinks he's not rich, is delusional.
Nothing's wrong with rich, most in Congress are rich, but when you use elitist against an opponent that IS hypocracy!
Obama's house is worth $1 million. In some parts of the country a million is nothing. How he got his loan and the use of the name Resko is again, another dirty trick by the Republicans. Resko went to jail...paid for his crime. I remember Oliver North, Gordon Liddy to name a few, who were also felons and they ended up with their own radio shows.
Obama clearly gets demonized for his so-called associations with Resko, the Rev. Wright...but no one takes McCain to task for his association with the Keeting 5, Big Oil, and the Bush administration, in which he voted 95% of the time supporting GW.
I hope the Obama campaign continues to call McCain on his lies.
Obama's house is worth $1 million.
Then he's an idiot who has no business in the Senate.
Rezko got him ripped off.
He paid $1.65 Million.
Then again, Congress routinely pays at least 65% more taxpayer dollars than ANYTHING is worth. So I guess it's just par for the Congressional course, and Barack fits right in. That's how a Senator is used to conducting business!
Anybody interested in the occupation of Iraq & Afghanistan as a campaign issue? The lies that were told to get it rolling, and the idiots in Congress who voted to give their war-making authority to George Dubya Bush, in direct violation of the Constitution?
The senator says,Hypocracy would define all of Congress. McCain is not alone. Congress IS a country club and it's members, every one of them, are so out of touch with, which is very true, but who's responsible for all that ? it's the people's responsibility to pick someone who knows how the average Americans LIVE.Do we do that ! NOOO we always listen to the paid media by the big boys to tell us who should be a president & we keep doing the same thing over & over & over again !
We usually end up with a rich man who knows nothing but he's being made by the media.
In my opinion,no one of these two clowns is qualified to be president to this great country.the other day McCain was trying to tell a joke to make himself look like the average man,but he had to read it from a piece of paper which makes him phony no ? the day after I noticed he had EAR PEICE ON...why ?
It tells you one thing, somebody is telling him what to say.WE HAVE THE CHOICE & WE GET WHAT WE DESERVE PERIOD !
Crow T Robot:
As usual, you are spouting GOPER talking points (lied).
Obama was looking for a house. He found it. By himself (with his real estate agent). The SELLER said that BOTH properties had to be sold on the same day. Rezko's wife bought the land. They then sold a strip of the land to the Obama's - although the house is big - the yard is not.
Obama paid 'more than market value' to Rezko for the land - based on his (Obama's) calculation of what the price Rezko paid, what percentage of the land he was getting, according to the tax assessor.
All this has been confirmed over and over by the previous owners of both properties, and Obama's realtor. Numerous other people, including everyone who testified at Rezko's trial said Obama had done 'nothing wrong' - over and over and over again.
While Rezko was/is a crook - Obama and he were NOT close friends and I'm sure that YOU know some people who are crooks too so according to your logic - YOU ARE A CROOK AS WELL!
lokywoky, where did I say anything about Obama's house deal other than that I consider such to be another NON-Issue, along with McCain's houses, that I'd sooner not talk about that crap, and I'd rather 'press' the 'press' to talk about the real important stuff??
Maybe you overlooked the whole post, except for the one sentence you could drag out of it's proper context in order to launch your 'Defend Barack' rant?
Did I suggest Obama was a crook for associating with a crook??
Or did you pull that 'logic' out of your a$$? (the answer is obvious)
Now, either YOU are a close associate of Barack's, so much so that you know for sure who he associates with closely, or YOU are spouting 'talking points'. I don't care which, personally.
None of it is what these campaigns (and smart, fearless journalists) ought to be discussing, but it's the only sorts of things they ARE discussing.
It would seem that you are content to argue over the trivia, and let the real issues facing the country slide out of sight and out of mind. I'd rather talk about military interventions and occupations, an overseas empire that's bankrupting us, a worthless dollar, and a long list of other things that actually effect the American people directly! But you guys want to go on and on and on about houses, who's a bigger 'celebrity', who's rich, who's pastor is a bigger a$$hole...
For whatever it's worth, I'd no sooner vote for the Repub candidate for president than I would a dead skunk. But the same goes for his twin from the Dem party. (I don't even know why I'm suggesting the parties are distinct and separate, because they aren't)
I'll be voting third party and independent..., again.
A nine-car motorcade to get a cup of coffee?!
Okay, boys and girls, today's quiz is a word problem: Nine armored SUVs getting 4 miles to the gallon and each containing six 200-pound agents carrying twenty weapons apiece travel 14 miles round trip to buy a $3.95 cup of coffee. Considering that they forgot to inflate their tires to the recommended pressure because the SUVs and fuel were supplied by Big Oil contacts, how much did the Starbucks employee get tipped for preparing this coffee for a millionaire and did McCain taste the coffee first himself or did his agents force the employee to taste it first to make sure it was real Columbian coffee and not that poisoned cheap stuff grown on organic farms by tree huggers? Extra points for the true or false question as to whether he also bought coffee for each agent himself or charged it to this Senate account, thereby forcing the American taxpayer to foot the bill while his wife orders out for pizza because she left all of her cookware in one of their other seven houses.
First student to throw up and pass out wins.
Good luck and begin...
If this represents what the American voter considers real, vital campaign issues, then all I can say is that We Deserve the likes of George Bush for two terms, opposed by Democratic Party offerings so pathetic that they can't even manage to Defeat a turd as big as George Bush in Two Tries!
Enjoy it ladies & germs, and rest assured you can look forward to more of the same, no matter what name ends up on the office door.
I tend to think there's a big difference between a rich democrat and a rich republican. Usually the rich republicans get their money off the backs of us, the common folk.
I tend to think there's a big difference between a rich democrat and a rich republican.
I tend to think there's none.
Methinks that The Government We Deserve must work for Diebold. Will he think the same when they come for him or his family in the dead of night? Me also thinks that The Government We Deserve will be the only one requesting a blindfold while the rest of us refuse so we can spit in their faces with our dying breath.
Did he get a small business loan for an operation like this? How many of the staff were illegals? How many were minorities? How many staff does he have and how much more is he paying than he claims to be paying.
...while the rest of us refuse so we can spit in their faces with our dying breath...
Nobody without the wisdom or the cojones to break away from voting DemoPublican or RepubliCrat will ever muster the courage to spit in an executioner's eye.
My compliments on evading the whole point in order to launch into your little ad hominem.

Add the "100 years in Iraq" and you have a problem.......Gonna B lookin for the BULGE in his shirt, like da 1 Bush had in the debatez... Obama gonna fillet dat ole warrier.........
The issues here include McCain's hypocrisy, dishonesty, inability to do simple math, his out-of-touch remarks about how strong the economy is & a dirty, ugly, dishonest campaign typical of Republicrooks. The Dems have stopped "playing nice" with the school yard bullies. Yea!!!! Go for his flabby, wrinkled throat.
McCain did not amass a queen's ransom. He married the addict errr. . . excuse me, queen who had the ransom. The wife is the sole heir to the anheuser busch (no pun intended) fortune.
