Obama Goes on the Air With McCain's Houses
The Obama campaign has the quickest video team on these here internets. It already has an ad up on what is quickly becoming my new favorite story.
I know they had to keep it simple, but I would have tried to work in this point. Take a look at the spending habits of the McCains ("Cindy McCain charged as much as $500,000 in a single month on one American Express card and $250,000 on another") and the fact that they have so many million-dollar homes that John McCain can't even remember them all. And then consider the fact that wasteful spending is supposedly John McCain's animating passion.
I view this as a more serious hypocrisy that John Edwards' zip code-sized house. And we all know how long that story hung around.
Update: Another point Obama's team could have made: how can someone oversee the housing crisis when he doesn't have any day-to-day concerns about his own mortgage? Or mortgages, as the case may be? How can this person set tax rates for the middle class? All of that is implied, I suppose...

Obama got his house in a sweet heart deal with a convicted mobster. Don't forget the rich Democrats, like the Kennedy's, Feinstein, Boxer, Clintons, Kerry and his wife, Al Gore, Edwards, NJ Gov Corzine(He spent over $62 million of his own money on his campaign, the most expensive Senate campaign in U.S. history ? over $33 million of this was spent on the primary election alone, where he defeated former Governor James Florio 58%-42%), I could go on.

I agree - it's a good commercial to have made, but could have been a bit stronger. However, having a lot of right wing family, I know they are very touchy and neurotically loyal to their party, so going a little softer and letting the messege sink in with less immediate defenses might actually be a psychological advantage to the Obama campaign. They should follow the old marketing strategy that you're better to spend less per ad but run it a lot than to take out a pricy full page just once. Hit this message from about three angles, all sort of mild like this one is, but show it in as many venues as possible. How about a big print ad campaign, though? A small, grainy photo of a house with a for sale and 'reduced price!' sign in front with a caption below saying: 'Your House'
Then, below that, in large print, McCain's zipe code, with the caption below it, 'John McCain's House'. Then the follow up line: 'John McCain Just Doesn't Get It.'
Any takers?
Figures.
We've got people dying daily as a result of US occupations underway in two foreign countries, one of which was completely unjustified from the word "Fire!".
We've got a military presence in 130 or so foreign countries, and the cost of this defacto empire is bankrupting the nation.
We've got a dollar that's worth 1/10th of what it was a century ago, due to the government inflating it, and draining off the it's value as a hidden means of taxing us.
We've got people stuck with deciding whether to buy gas to drive to work, or pay their bills, because fuel costs twice what it did just a few years ago.
The list of Real Issues is as long as Michael Jordan's arm, and what is the presidential election campaign about?
How many houses one of the contenders owns?!?!
Who's more of a 'celebrity'?!?!
Who owns more guilt for cheating on their wife?!?!
"Whut If Barack Wuz a Kitteh?"?!?!
You've got to be sh!tting me!!
And Smart, Fearless Journalists play right into the Mobius Party's hands, and fill their blogs with this piddly-a$$ed nonsense.
Way to focus there, MoJo.
NO!!!
I want Obama in the White House because I want something different. No dirty adds!!!
This is BS! Let's hear what Obama is going to do, let's hear policy and vision. Any "cork socker" can say what a jack a** the other guy is. Duh - that's not hard. And there's lots to go around with McCain - Keating, special treatment in the military, corrupt morals...
And Obama should not throw stones - especially considering that the last house he sold went at a discount to Tony R the scum peddler.
Stein - I only watched the commercial, got pissed and posted. Now I know why it is here. Stein. dude, get over it, out of he gutter and focus on the issues.
And while you are kissing Obama's a**, look out for the boomerang!!! This will not go over well with those on the fence.
URGH!!!!!!
McCain's not knowing how many houses he has is funny and may indicate spend-thrift ways, especially for Cindy. But it is not an issue. The issue is how do we stop foreclosures and help those who are in the midst of foreclosure. Obama needs to stick to the issues, as he has been doing, and leave the mud slinging to McCain, whose hands are already filthy.
I'm not sure that "real estate" is the safest topic for Obama considering how he himself used a very dubious political tie to purchase his own home. I understand that the trial of that unsavory person has been "magically" postponed until after the election.
Nader in '08. The only progressive candidate running and supported by the Calif. Peace and Freedom Party. The other two are owned by the same coporate masters as all the others.

Yeah, no joke.
I disagree with using this story as a "waste of money" attack. There's a truism that no one seems to have refuted that Americans don't want the rich taxed because they think that they will be rich one day. Evidence that John McCain has what most people don't only proves to those people that they are being inhibited from achieving it. No one will blame John McCain, they'll blame high taxes. (And McCain, as the quote about all his houses demonstrates, blames his wife, who said that he complained the vacation house was a waste of money). I think this is a bad-memory story and a bad bad-memory story at that.
Obama got his house in a sweet heart deal with a convicted mobster. I have seen the cancer that eats the progress of this country and it is called self-loathing liberals.
Why CAN'T Obama's campaign point out that McCain is a smuggo, rich guy who doesn't get it? The jerks on the right have gone so far as to insinuate all along that Obama is an Islamic terrorist, which is just blatant fear-mongering, feasting on the gore of 9-11, but Obama can't point out something relavent, like: "Look at this rich schmuck, gorging himself of beer money, so house-rich he can't keep track of it all - you think he's going to 'feel your pain'?"
Look, I want things to stay on track, as well, and I would FAR prefer that we talk about issues - I want that to be ninety percent of the campaign. But there are a lot of morons who vote and they aren't going to be compelled by thoughtful discussion so much as driven by quickly drawn conclusions. A portion of the campaigns energy DOES have to go towards marketing, and some of that WILL involve trying to shatter peoples' illusions about McCain. But, no, the liberals want their candidate to sit on his hands and ignore the very simple truth that first you market yourself, wedge out competition, then, when hired, you can get to work on policy.
Paul, are you a beer drinker?
Why, no, Charles, I am not a beer drinker. I prefer my hooch to come from a shaker, not a tap. But why do you ask? I hope this is good.
Paul, as we know, McCain's wife is into the beer business. You seem to have a snobbish look down on beer people. So you must be one of the snooty wine imbibers.
I wonder what the Bible Thumpers think about his wife being a big purveyor of the distilled spirits, the Devil's lubricant? Any idea of what the the folks in Virgina would think about this or the snake handlers to the west?
Beer is not a distilled spirit.
Fermented, yea (just like wine).
Distilled, nay.
...now where did I put that Dos Equis Amber...
Charles, that was so disappointing. Not funny, unfounded and no point. Oh, well. You can't win them all.
McBush, oops McIdiot, OOOPS McCain, anyone dumb enough to vote for this guy can't see past the end of their noses. Economists are warning us that republicans are raping Americans faster than ever, and by the year 2050 the USA will not even be in the top 10 nations with economic power. Yes the republicans and their select cronies are getting richer, eliminating the middle class. NICE VALUES. This is what the republican party wants for you AMERICA. Wake up before its too late......Oh and yes our military looks good with all the leased equipment. Guess who is getting rich off of that leased equipment, yep you guessed it cronies of the IDIOT currently sitting in the White House. Vote for McCain and the raping will continue....WAKE UP AMERICA...
Wait til you see the racist comments coming out of the republican mouths. They are actually afraid that we are going to elect a MINORITY to head the United States of America. Republicans should be afraid because change is coming. NO MORE BUSINESS AS USUAL.
Sweet Polly Pure-o-bread, (Cindy McCain) what a whore. She doesn't want toi disclose her income, because America will really find out where the money is. Talk about theives. It's time we send McCain back to one of his houses, if he can remember where they are, AND NOT THE WHITE HOUSE.......
IhaveDic.., The Clintons don't want to disclose their finances, that is why MsClinton was not considered for the VP poisition, not to mention her problem with not "working well with others".
