Carville vs. the Teabaggers
Commentator/consultant/celebrity James Carville and Democratic pollster Stan Greenberg are going after the Teabaggers. Tomorrow the two are releasing a report based on focus groups that apparently will show that portions of the GOP base have moved into a conspiratorial, far-right alternative universe. A press release issued by the pair on Thursday morning previewed the findings: "The study explored the relevance of the 'race issue' among these voters and revealed they're not just critical of President Obama, but worried he is deliberately trying to deceive the American public in order to advance a secret socialist agenda." This sounds like a polite way of saying that the conservative Republican base contains a significant number of whacked-out Obama-haters whose views are shaped by racial bias. Cue Glenn Beck.
From the press release:
Washington, DC. October 15, 2009. On Friday afternoon, Democracy Corps will be releasing a controversial, comprehensive report on focus groups conducted last month among conservative Republican base voters in suburban Atlanta, with parallel groups conducted among blue collar independents in suburban Cleveland. Prior to the release—at 11:00am EST this Friday, October 16—Democracy Corps' co-founders James Carville and Stan Greenberg will host a special conference call with interested media to preview the findings.
The report is based on results of two sets of focus groups held September 29-30, 2009 by Democracy Corps, along with survey data collected over the last four months. The first set of groups were held in suburban Atlanta, GA among older white, self-identified conservative Republican base voters—those that voted for both John McCain and a GOP candidate for Congress. A parallel set of groups was conducted in Cleveland, OH among older white, non-college swing voters—half of whom voted for Barack Obama and half of whom voted for John McCain last November.
The study explored the relevance of the ‘race issue' among these voters and revealed they're not just critical of President Obama, but worried he is deliberately trying to deceive the American public in order to advance a secret socialist agenda. The study also explored a variety of recently media-covered including TEA parties, as well as surprising findings about how the conservative Republican base views their own party officials, the Republican Party, and conservative media pundits like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh. These voters have a strong self-identity, are critical of the Republican Party, and share few views with the ‘Macomb-County-like' swing voters in the middle.

Mr. Carville, thanks for quantifying the obvious
The GOP's "big tent" has been driving out minorities since long before Lou Dobbs started flappin' his gums about illegals and Glenn Beck went after ACORN. They have been the party of whites ever since the Dixiecrats bolted during the civil rights movement.
Glenn Beck is a disciple of Mormon crackpot Cleon Skousen, a racist whack job who saw a commie behind every tree. If you listen to Glenn Beck's delusional rants, he repeats Skousen like a demented parrot on meth.
I have been following Beck closely for a while now and decided to start my own site about what he says and how he relates to the teabagging movement. His "9-12 Project" is classic. People ought to read the "9 Principles" for a definition of white supremacist values. I have begun deconstructing them on my site, www.glennbeckreport.com. You are all welcome to join the effort.
My opinion is that Beck is enjoying his 15 minutes. The teabaggers will never make it as a political movement due to funding problems. The real money in the right wing won't support them because there's no future in it. They will stick with the GOP, who are actually connected to political power. If rational 3rd party movements like Nader and the Greens can't make a dent in the 2 party system, how can the teabagger/9-12 movement?
What the Carville report will actually do is give Glenn something to talk about once he wears out his phony lie about the WH trying to shut down his show. I have copied the press release into a text file because I'll be needing it for my website.

>but worried he is
>but worried he is deliberately trying to deceive the American public in order to advance a secret socialist agenda.
Republicans think this of EVERY Democrat President. I don't see what this has to do with race. When Clinton was President, WND did a special on Clinton's so-called "socialist manifesto". Carter was called a useful idiot of the communists who was giving away American supremacy, such as by handing over the Panama Canal. But I do think there is a point to be made here. Conservatives view socialism as distinctly un-American even if they don't quite know what socialism is. I think there is a perception that because Obama is black and because he was raised in Indonesia and Hawaii that somehow he "missed the memo". This furthers their suspicions about his motives.
Whites on both sides of the aisle play these games with minorities in different ways. Example: you're black and you don't mouth the ideology of the farm belt, you're "un-American". Example2: you're black and you don't parrot the ideology of the Left, you're "not black"!.
Can you give examples of your examples?

I am a leftist who lives in the farm belt and I've never heard anyone say anything like you claimed we say. Can you provide some specific instances with names and dates?
Thanks in advance,

When does Carville come out
When does Carville come out with the “42% of Democrats are truther assholes” report? I realize that its infinitely more wicked and evil to believe that the president was born in Kenya than to think that the president deliberately murdered 3000 Americans by concocting one of the most elaborate conspiracies to date.
Welcome to the reality based community.
I assume you don't include yourself in that community
You are a member of the false equivalence community, which means you are likely a follower of Glenn Beck.
That would explain how you would come up with your statistic, your false equivalence, and your attitude, all at the same time.
Better go answer the red phone, I think it's for you.

A “follower” of Glenn
A “follower” of Glenn Beck … do you think that Beck is some kind of Christ like messiah figure that his fans now “follow”? Interesting choice of words though.
You are right about the false equivalency, only an asshole extraordinaire would think that there are not several orders of magnitude difference in cognitive dissonance between people who think Obama was born in Kenya and those who think that Bush/Cheney were behind 9/11.
Actually you have the wrong one
The real false equivalency involved here is promoting a conspiracy theory that a person who has been in American politics for a decade somehow snuck into the country vs the fact that a serial liar named George Bush took no action to prevent 9/11 and lied us into a war that killed 10s of thousands of people.
Yeah, and you can shove your "42%" figure up the patootie.

William - You Rock
Seriously William, I just can not find enough people out there pointing out knee-jerk false equivalencies. Kudos.
.We don't have to "think"
.We don't have to "think" it, the hundreds of placards with Beck's image and "Glenn4President" during the Wash. DC racist get-together shows that indeed, a large percentage of birthers, deathers, teabaggers, and all-around imbeciles are followers of Mr. Beck.

If there's anybody with a secret agenda...
...then it's the folks out there in heatlhcare-land. Medicine is Big Business...and some of those folks DO have some interesitng ideas about the world...and, seeing as how a fair amount of them are pretty well-heeled, landed gentry for the most part, well...it's not really much of a secret that the Golden(keyword: gold) Rule still applies. People can hem and haw and back-and-forth all day long about various things, but when the gavel falls, it's about the money, has always been about the money, WILL always be about the money, and though these folks may be intelligent, educated, and well-trained and so forth, that doesn't make them honest as a group, or class, as painfully evidenced by the tens of billions defrauded out of Medicare over the last few years.

Never met a "Truther" Democrat
Every Truther I've ever known has been a Ron Paulista. Democrats believe in getting on with the present and planning for the future, whereas Truthers are obsessed with the past. No wonder their genesis is Republican in nature.
