We're Still at War: Photo of the Day for October 7, 2009
Spc. Jesse A. Murphree, Destined Company, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment (Airborne), greets his 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team comrades returning from deployment in Afghanistan, on the flight line at Aviano Air Base, Italy, July 22. Murphree lost his legs in an improvised explosive device attack in the Korengal Valley, near Ali Abad, Afghanistan, Dec. 27, 2007. (US Army photo via army.mil.)

We're Still at War
How did we get to the place where we are struggling to have the obvious posing as wisdom in overseas nation building?
Photos Miss the Point
I like the idea of having a photo a day to remind readers that we are still at war; however, I think you're really missing the point. These photos shouldn't be of soldiers coming home or of dust-free, combat-free convoys. These should be photos that show the magnitude of war and the death and destruction that it causes. You should be reminding readers not just that we're at war, but what war is about, what it means to the people of Afghanistan and to us.
Lydia, I agree that scenes
Lydia,
I agree that scenes from Afghanistan and the people there are powerful. But to say a photo of a soldier who lost both legs greeting his comrades misses the point, I think, is disingenuous.
