Obama to Reporter: I'm Sorry for "Messing Up Your Game"
In the past Barack Obama has been accused of many things -- having ties to a crooked political fundraiser, for one -- but this, I dare say, is a first. In a recent column in the Henry Daily Herald of McDonough, Georgia, reporter Nicklaus Lovelady lambasts Obama for ruining his chances with a love interest working for a rival paper. Best to let Lovelady take it from here:
I had the looks, I had the charm and I had my eye on this pretty young thing who was doing an internship for a competing paper.
It took me nearly two months of running into each other at various news events before I worked up the nerve to begin talking to her.
And then Obama shows up.
The senator made his way to SIUE one day to introduce some legislation that would increase grants for students. Prior to that, me and the girl became really cool as I let her in on a few tricks of the trade.
The day Obama came, there was a huge press conference at the university’s student center with about 100 people inside the conference room and hundreds more viewing the conference on a big screen in the lobby.
Obama did his thing, and at the end there was segment for questions by the media.
After about five questions from different television and newspaper reporters, I stood up to ask mine.
“Wait a minute son, this is for professional media only,” Obama said to me.
“What do you mean? I work for the local paper,” I said with a crackling nervous voice.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I thought you were a college student. You have such a baby face,” he said with an unremorseful grin.
At that point everyone in the room turned to look at me and laugh. The 800 people in the lobby laughed as my face was projected on the big screen.
Alas, the "pretty young thing" was laughing, too. And, after that humiliating episode, she was no longer interested in Lovelady's "tricks of the trade." "Obama owes me a public apology for making me look like a court jester and for blocking my shot," Lovelady's column concludes. "Until that time, Hillary or Giuliani will get my vote."
Not about to lose Lovelady's vote, Obama, who has yet to declare whether or not he'll seek the presidency in 2008, phoned the reporter “to publicly apologize for messing up your game. I read that; I felt terrible. I didn't know there were any ladies around. I just wanted to let you know that I'm deeply sorry.”
Presidential material? Definitely.

“Wait a minute son, this is for professional media only” Wait, is this supposed to be a proper response?

1. Pride = Can't take a joke.
2. Arrogance = "I had the looks. I had the charm."
3. Poor grammar = "...me and the girl..."
4. Clue = Maybe Obama's comment isn't what chased her away, afterall.
5. Blame game = What people play when they don't want to look inside. Think about it.

We are extremely impressed with Barack Obama, He may have made a slip with sa young reporter but, in general, he is the best politician to come up from the ranks in many years. If he ran for President, he'd get my vote and the votes of most of my friends and people that we know across the country, for his brilliance, charm, outstanding oratory ability, etc., etc. He is a very special and candid human being. He's also usually most able to handle almost all situations with which he meets. He may not be perfect, but he's one of the best men around.

Unfortunately, the reporter probably never had a chance with the young lady. If she was really interested in him, she would have let him know, especially after the laughter stopped. He shouldn't blame Mr. Obama for his own inability to ask a woman out. He kept waiting to run into her when he should have simply asked her out when he first saw or met her. Note to JustPicky: I have spent the last 6 years watching Mr. Bush mangle his own sentences, create words that don't exist and consistently be rude to reporters during his press conferences. He never apologizes for any of his bad "press conference" behavior. Do you really think that Mr. Obama knew that he was "destroying that reporter's plans" to ask a woman out, so Mr.Obama "could benefit?" I do feel that he should not have singled out the reporter in that manner. However, I hope that you and your family cast votes in the 2008 election based on a candidate's positive achievements that will enhance the United States and it's citizens. By the way, Mr. Obama did apologize. Now I'd like to hear Mr. Bush do the same thing after his press conferences.

This is weak. The guy waited two months to get the nerve to talk to this girl? All Obama is guilty of is bad timing and unfortunate coincidence. Yeah, the remark was unnecessary but the reporter is blaming his inability to meet women on someone else. Truly weak.
I agree with the post listing the attributes of the initial letter.
Barak has apologized and that's the end of it.
I still favor him out of all of the Democrats.

I agree with Icnivad. Totally weak. The idea that anyone would NOT vote for Obama for this incident is pure stupidity. Obama is a class act all the way. I truly hope that Obama seeks the presidency in 2008, as this country needs a true "uniter" that will not only benefit the U.S., but the entire global community.

We are in a completely unjust and ridiculous war right now that has resulted in the unnecessary deaths of thousands of people, Iraqis and Americans alike. We are fighting an AIDS pandemic and an obesity epidemic. We have a city that is still feeling the effects of a flood over a year ago and class issues that continue to affect the fabric of our society. We have all these problems and people complain about a politician "ruining their game"? Give me a break.

I just want to say that, for the record, Obama has game with me. There are indeed a load of incredibly serious problems facing our world - but that doesn't mean you need to sit around all day with a look of the utmost gravity on your face. It certainly didn't work for Kerry.

The best the Democrats have to offer in this bonfire of political vanities is the tarnished star of an African-American "civil rights lawyer" (so called) who's only rationale for denying gays the fundamental civil right of marriage are his religious beliefs. When the volk bow down to a media created "superstar" who would use the illicit means of violating the First Amendment to achieve the illicit end of denying civil rights guaranteed under the Fourteenth Amendment then Winston Churchill was right when he stated that "the best argument against democracy is a ten minute conversation with the average voter." There is a pox on both our houses and even the best of the Democrats are 'separate but [not] equal' Dixiecrats who represent the ghost of Jim Crow. Just Google or see See "Untangling Barack Obama's audacious mumbo jumbo," by John P. Mortimer, at http://ebar.com/common/inc/article_print.php?sec=guest_op&article=73 . Even the UK is onto this deception but the "liberal press" in the US uses silence as an exercise in collaboration to pull the wool over people's eyes. See http://www.ukgaynews.org.uk/latest.htm for December 3, 2006. Wake up.

I have a funny sounding name too. Can I be special? Every freakin election the democrat party marches out a cast of characters with fanfare, pomp and splendor befitting the procession into Rome by a victorious emperor. Hey, that reminds me, where is Oblama's love slave? They make a big hollywood production over this stooge and that stooge portraying them as the second coming of Jesus Christ. It's such absolute media hype super BS. Remember when Kerry was the greatest saviour known to western man....until he revealed himself as a freakin effete east coast limousine liberal snob. Hillary was the "smartest woman in the world"...remember that propaganda? And still they roll out this circus every four years and still the media puppies follow them around urinating in submission to the big democrat dogs. The only thing more insane are the mindless followers of the left who swallow this pablum and beg for more....swooning over every move the chosen democrat makes. We had reporters stating aloud they would blow slick Willy (just for keeping abortion legal). How many will offer to wipe Oblama's butt and change his diaper for him? It is just all too hard for me to comprehend. I'll have to expend 100 rounds at the range this afternoon just to relieve the frustration. This country is headed for a world of hurt. Maybe the Islamo-terrorist have it right,.....we are so corrupt, immoral and decadent that we are infecting the rest of the planet and need to be erradicated. We are supposed to be electing the preeminent leader of the free world.....Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Mark Foley, Denny Hastert, John (the weasel) McCain, John Conyers, John Murtha, Barak Oblama, Hillary Clinton????? Heck, these clowns make John Edwards look almost normal. Why not elect James Brown, he's dead and can't make any decisions that will screw up my grand kids future forever? At least we would get real entertainment.
