Edwards Keeps Liberal Bloggers, Grows Thicker Skin, Sort of
Presidential candidate John Edwards has decided to keep his two female liberal bloggers after all, even though numerous sources reported the two were fired yesterday. The former senator's HQ released statements today, from Edwards, Amanda and Melissa (the two bloggers). The folks over at Tapped and Pandagon have the whole rundown. But essentially, Edwards reprimanded Amanda and Melissa for their "intolerant language." (I really think Bill Donohue is the one who needs a reprimand but it's not like anyone takes him seriously anyway.) And, surprise, surprise, Amanda and Melissa had to apologize to appease the right wing fanatics. Honestly, this is just another example of Democrats succumbing to pressure from the right. Are the Dems ever going to learn that walking the moderate line just doesn't win votes? The ironic part is that Edwards hired Amanda and Melissa to reach a progressive audience, one he might have just isolated.

If Edwards is going to hire feminists, he better get his position on reproductive rights clear. If he is not going to hire feminists he should become a republican.
I am Irish Catholic, but I in no way support the churches position on contraception and abortion, because I know bans on contraception and abortion kill women. Such bans kill them in ugly ways too. A 13 year old teenager dying of uremia or septacemia because the bans denied her medical options is never seen on the right wing biased media.
Don't confuse the catholic peoples vote with the churches position. The church has always been more conservative than it's members. That is how an organization lasts for, plans for, centuries, by being conservative and moving slowly. The members of the church can't wait that long for change, we only live for decades. We need to be progressive.

Mr. McCarthy, I couldn't agree with you more and hope that there are more like you out there. Having no religion, this does not influence my pro-choice views, but it is good to see someone treating their faith as a living and evolving perspective.
Re Edwards: he seems like a phony person to me and always has so it doesn't surprise me that he isn't able to unleash himself from concerns about the radicals.
