Raise Your Hand if You Hate Maureen Dowd!
Every once in a while, I find Maureen Dowd funny, but ever since her Britney Spears train wreck in slow motion of a book, I've been seriously turned off.
Now this. Today's Daily Howler compares the Don't-Call-Me-Dowdy one to Ann Coulter. That's right. Coulter outright calls Dems "faggots," but Maureen Dowd almost compulsively describes them with belittling feminizing images. (It should be said that she adds -ie to the names of most Republicans.) Her last column about Gore before the 2000 election was a conversation between him and his bald spot called "I feel pretty…." Dowd's insults are every bit as pointed, but come in "simpering" sheep's clothing. And so, the Daily Howler concludes, Dowd does Dems more damage than the despicable Coulter.

Love, urrrrrgaph, sorry but your comment made me gag. We don't have to hate, but we can take acception to people's attitudes as much as we want. Dowd sounds like a katty a-hole.

Dowd is a catholic thats her problem and most catholics hate democracy and liberals. The popes told them to do so and they are doing so. I AM, the last catholic in america that is not a republican.
Pray for peace

Stereotyping of Catholics is as unacceptable as stereotyping of Jews. Denigration of a religion will not be tolerated.

Preposterous, Patrick. Religions are just institutions, filled with bureaucracy, and can and should be criticised when they reveal their hypocrisy. Calling an institution to task for its failings is not the same as being bigoted towards an individual.

"Dowd is a catholic thats her problem". This is like saying that the disgraced lobbyist, Jack Abramoff,Libby, Monica Lywinski are Jews and that is their problem. This is being bigoted towards an individual based upon their religion. As an example, the ethnocentric hostility of the Jews—consistently commented on by the peoples who have encountered them over the millennia—can be traced ultimately to the origins of Judaism as set forth in the Torah, e.g., Genesis 9:25 (“Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren”) and on, and on... Do we really want to get into discussing the Jewish religion, or for that matter the Catholic, or the Muslim to explain a person based upon their religion, instead of their actions?

I guess what I like about Maureen Dowd is her indifference to who it is that she hangs on the hook. Who in Washington isn't someone's prostitute, where if they're a man they have double zippered pants (one in front and one in the back to please their lobby and if they're congressional chicks then they got no underwear at all and leave the choice of which hole up to their lobby's preference? Of course our condemnation of prostitutes revolves around our religion and culture, where we are for the most part rather prudish about the whole thing and if we look a bit closer we find in the oldest profession that it maintained a somewhat respected social status in antiquity but was replaced by the Christian ethic of self denial and guilt hence we made them seem vulgar until it just happens we ain't getting none in the household and need to drive downtown for a little nooky. Were you to call them Geisha girls then what? A Geisha is a highly respected member of the society, which hints towards an understanding of need and socially acceptable pleasure. Our society on the other hand has Maureen Dowd who functions as a sort of modern female Aristophanes. She's funny until she's got your number and then, well look out. She is basically saying that whether it was John Kerry or George Bush giving a speech on the virtues of Iraq they both give a speech that has the content equivalence of a fart, with the exception of the publics preference for the afterglow—one has the smell of quasi democratic and the blue folks cheer Yea, the other quasi republican and the red section cheers Yea. I guess I like the blue afterglow but still Maureen Dowd makes me laugh and I like her wit.
