Gingrich Continues To Ride the Christian Right Bandwagon

On Saturday, ethically challenged former House Speaker Newt Gingrich gave the commencement address at Liberty University, the school founded by Jerry Falwell. This was the second time the former speaker has delivered the Liberty commencement address. In his speech, Gingrich quoted Bible verses and warned graduates against "the growing culture of radical secularism."

"A growing culture of radical secularism declares that the nation cannot profess the truths on which it was founded," Gingrich said. "We are told that our public schools can no longer invoke the creator, nor proclaim the natural law nor profess the God-given quality of human rights."

Gingrich, who is considering a run for the presidency in 2008, faced 84 ethics charges when he was House Speaker, including tax violations, perjury and reckless disregard of House rules. He was sanctioned, and resigned from Congress. He also gained notoriety for visiting his cancer-recovering first wife in her hospital bed to get her to sign divorce papers. After the divorce, a church organization helped the family financially because Gingrich did not pay any child support. He divorced his second wife because he was having an affair with a young Congressional aide.

According to the late Falwell, Gingrich "genuinely sought forgiveness" for his sins.

I can't think of anything more appropriate than the juxtaposition of two Articles in today's Mother. One on the Heretic Christian Gingrich, the other an interview with the Disciple of the "Prince of Peace" Carter.

On the one hand, Newt calls on Americans to submit to the authority of Heresy, and on the other Jimmy Calls on Americans to lay aside their dogmatic beliefs and work toward accommodation within society and over the planet.

I think you've got the facts wrong. Gingrich served papers to his first wife, not second, while she was hospitalized for cancer. Not a big thing - he's still a hypocrite louse!

Gingrich is also a Christian Zionist like Pat Robertson and company. Gingrich is a skilled debater as well as having a great knowledge of history.

84? Wow.

By the way, it severely pisses me off that the christian right somehow sees a reason for continuously slander secularism and what pisses me off more is the fact they have not an /ounce/ of proof to back this up.

I can quote 1000+ bible verses that support slavery, murdering of innocent people, genocides, etc.

I can quote the hundreds of religious wars started all over the world.

I can show their severe lack of morality (Yes, wanting to put someone on death row because they committed adultery is NOT moral.)

They can never return the favor. And if you look in depth at them, they have the troubles. Haggard spoke out severely against homosexuality, turns out, he himself was a homosexual. Catholic priests having sex with young sex boys. I could go on, but this isn't really the time.

You want to slander secularism, back it up with some facts!

U.S. Senate report’71 stated that in China the Communists killed 62 million, Solzhenitsyn said in USSR, 67 million, in Cambodia, 2million(1/3 of population). In China, the Mongol invaders (1210-1340 )killed 70 million, Yellow Tiger Bandit(1643-1647), 40million. None of these examples involved religion. Jake, your hate rant is nonsense.

According to fabulous investigative journalist, Greg Palast, the top ten states with the highest divorce rates are all red states, and the top ten states with the lowest divorce rates are all blue. Same with top ten states with the highest and lowest rates of teen pregnancy. (Seems the "If we don't teach 'em nothin', they won't DO nothin'," logic didn't pan out on that one! Please forgive all a them double negatives!)

Typical political discussion with a ditto-head - Progressive - "How can you claim that conservatives are more moral when the facts and statistics prove otherwise?" Conservative: "You support the terrorists!"

If you want to live in a country ruled by religion - move to Saudi Arabia.

The way conservatives get away with such immoral behavior is by never talking about it under oath. Lying under oath about sexual misconduct was Clinton's problem, not the conduct itself, otherwise most of Congress would have to be impeached. Ya think?!

This article just goes to show that hypocrisy still rules in the land of religious fundamentalism. The ignorance and arrogance is not only disgusting, it's absolutely frightening!

Newt is well Newt. He doesn't do anything for anyone. . .all his failed marriages probably will keep him out of the running (too many ex-wives who know what is knowable)for the Presidency. Thank God as he is just about as bad the the joker now occupying the White House.

Christ told his disciples, when they asked how they would be able to identify believers, "by their actions ye shall know them".

Newt Gingrich's actions speak very loudly that he is NOT a Christian and is simply pretending to be to win favor with the so-called (and misnamed) "Christian Right", much like George W. Bush, another phony Christian, did.
