Bush's Chief Domestic Policy Adviser: "I Am Never Going To Hire Another Woman Because They Just Get Pregnant and Leave."

Whew! That's just one of the great tidbits in this TNR piece on Karl Zinsmeister, the man who replaced Claude Allen.

(Allen, if you recall, had to step down after he was nailed for shoplifting. At Hetch's. I guess you'd have to hail from DC to know how depressing that is.)

Before replacing Allen, Zinsmeister was editor of American Enterprise—the mag of the conservative think-thank the American Enterprise Institute—where he was so hated by employees that they basically demanded he be fired or they all quit.

The pregnancy discrimination remark is just one of a laundry list allegations his former employees make against him. Well worth the read.

I'm a "woman," too but I can't get pregnant any more. So hire us post-menopausals, please. We work hard and don't cause hassles.

Same old, same old. The trouble is, some women do leave when they get pregnant, so I guess that makes them bad workers. And if they don't leave they're made out to be bad mothers. You can't win. And of course women who don't even marry and/or have children are just considered plain weird and in Mr. Zinsmeister's universe they would be passed over for promotion anyway and at the same time overloaded with work. You definitely can't win!

If Zinzmeister is hated by AEI employees he must really be a piece of scum. AEI hates everyboy, including women. He sounds like a good republican, they are all dedicated to that kind of thinking. Damn those women they just get pregnant, imagine that.
Shame on them they aren't supposed to do that.
And they call themselves pro-life and christians and the pope endorses the rethugsas did Falwell and as does Robertson, Hagee and all those other thumpers.

Karl's right. Too many women getting pregnant lately. We're running out of oil, running out of water, pretty soon there will be standing room only. And then there is anti-abortion, "abstinence" programs,and the increasing lack of opportunity for poor women to get help with contraception and any decent planned parenthood programs. And you all know darn well that these are all virgin births. Why parthenogenesis is running rampant. The only answer is to legalize castration. That will definitely stop the problem. Let's start with Karl.

Terminal Degree, I like the way you think. Vasectomy is still legal, BTW. And, retroactive abortion is legal in certain circumstances in most states, usually beginning after the 75th trimester and for specific crimes. As long as it's the state making the decision rather than the mother, this seems OK to a great many people.

Unfortunately, the editors and/or legal advisers at The New Republic magazine severely curtailed so very many of the further mis-adventures of Karl Zinsmeister before this article went to press.
Evidence presented to the FBI during the background check of Mr. Zinsmeister also includes: two instances of probable wire fraud (one in the form of an e-mail) involving his ordering his staffers to commit click fraud and another ordering double billing of some of the magazine's advertisers, that female employees were routinely paid less and received smaller raises than the men on staff (and if they became pregnant they never received another pay raise), that Mr. Zinsmeister often referred to two nice ladies in AEI's accounting department as a "affirmative action boobs" and "affirmative action hires who we cannot get rid of," his repeated employment advertisements for "young" and "youngish" applicants, and that he blatantly disregarded the Americans With Disabilities Act in his treatment and dismissal of a subordinate.

Something is conspicuously absent in this discussion--ALL humans get here the same way: A woman gets pregnant and allows the being to live rent free inside her body (at some discomfort to her, btw) for ~9 months. If women did not perform these acts of generosity, there would be NO EMPLOYEES for nitwits like Zinsmeister to abuse, harass, fire, and discriminate against on one basis or another. I'm against violence, but I find myself stongly wanting to give Pigmeister..er..Zinsmeister a couple of hearty DOPE SLAPS!
