The Bushies Coalesce Around McCain
Here's George W. Bush speaking about John McCain, February 10, on Fox News Sunday:
"I know him well. I know his convictions. I know the principles that drive him. And no doubt in my mind he's a true conservative... He's very strong on national defense. He's tough fiscally. He believes that tax cuts ought to be permanent. He's pro-life. I mean, his principles are sound and solid as far as I'm concerned."
Bush is telling people privately that "McCain would be the best to carry forth [my] agenda."
Here's Jeb Bush endorsing John McCain, February 11, in an email from the McCain campaign:
"John McCain is a patriot and devoted conservative leader. Like no other candidate in the field, John McCain has made tremendous sacrifices for this nation. He is beholden to no interest other than that of the public good. He is determined and steadfast in his commitment to reducing the burden of high taxes, restoring the people's trust in their government, and winning the war against radical Islamic extremists. It is with pride that I announce my endorsement of John McCain for president."
And here's Karl Rove speaking about John McCain, February 10, on Face the Nation:
"I did contribute [$2,300 to him]...My mind was he is our presumptive nominee and it was time to write him a check."
The establishment welcomes the maverick. As if it had any other choice...
Comments
*If I was McCain I would backstab the Bushies and Rove and given this little 'Maverick' [what a crappy car that was!] temper and lust for power, if elected, he will turn on his supporters. In his mind he may be thinking,"Who does Bush think he is, after all, to tell men what my agenda is after swift boating me!!!!*
*speculation*

An endorsement from the worst president in history and a guy that polls at 30% cannot be much of a feather in the cap of McCain.

McCain should go to the Old Soldiers Home instead of the Oval Office. We will be in continuous war as our Empire makes a grab for the last of the oil in the Middle East: He is physically and mentally incompetent and the anger and rage of his imprisonment will surely come out in dealing with the "enemy." at ther expense of the American people. And god forbid we get his little buddy and the Israeli Lobby along with him.

I agree that the picture is funny. McCain's stumpy little arm reaching around Bush's beer belly, and both of them looking so untucked and disheveled could be fodder for a new rumor. If they were Dems, it probably would get started.
I had a friend tell me last night [a progressive friend who's disenchanted with both parties and fairly so] that while he personally would support Obama, he thinks that McCain's armed forces service record would make him a better president to deal with the Iraq quagmire. Isn't this sort of like a really successful former shift manager for the Applebee's in Gettysburg, PA saying that he's now ready to be the CEO of the entire franchise? Not to denigrate McCain's service or what he went through as a POW, but come on... My friend thought that we should 'agree to disagree' when I said that McCain had been very public in his support of Bush and the war from the beginning. He thought McCain's background would make him more sensitive to soldiers and less apt to keep the war and or engage in others. I told him this wasn't an 'agree to disagree' situation. I wasn't passing a judgment [as he was] about McCain's ability, just saying that his support of the war [100 years of war in Iraq?] was public knowledge. Interesting.
A client of my partner's was overheard expressing concerns only a week or two ago about Barack being Muslim because he had 'been sworn into the Senate on the Koran'. I had to tell my partner that while their had been a public figure who had done that last year, Barack was not the same guy. It was Keith Ellison.
There's so much misinformation. Even when retractions of misleading reports are made [too rarely] people don't seem to replace the falsehood in their minds for the truth. Oh, people.

Interesting to see what the Bushies are saying about McCain. It would be even more interesting to see those remarks along side their comments about McCain back in 2000.

This is so phony; Pres. Bush, Jeb Bush and Karl Rove endorsing McCann. All these Neocans want to do is continue with Bush's regime. We must not allow them to continue to destroy our country. We have so many other global problems in the world these days. We are in a nuclear race with China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Israel, Korea and now Iran that needs our immediate attention. This Iraq War has interfered and distracted us in solving other pertinent global problems like the environment, energy just to mention a few. We need to save this beautiful world and get some sort of peace treaty with these countries to reduce their nuclear ambitions.
