Is The Lily Livered West an Unindicted Co-Conspirator of Islamo-Fascism?

While Musharraf, and Islamism was defeated in Pakistan (for now, and maybe only for strategic reasons), how complicit is the soggy Western left in its spread? If you can't trust the Archbishop of Canterbury to hold the line, who can you? Well, ask Anne Applebaum, at trusty Slate:

Is this a storm in a teacup, as the archbishop now claims? Was the "feeding frenzy" biased and unfair? Certainly, it is true that, since last Thursday, when Rowan Williams—the archbishop of Canterbury, spiritual leader of the Church of England, symbolic leader of the international Anglican Church—called for "constructive accommodation" with some aspects of sharia law and declared the incorporation of Muslim religious law into the British legal system "unavoidable," practically no insult has been left unsaid....

What one British writer called the "jurisprudential kernel" of his thoughts is as follows: In the modern world, we must avoid the "inflexible or over-restrictive applications of traditional law" and must be wary of our "universalist Enlightenment system," which risks "ghettoizing" a minority. Instead, we must embrace the notion of "plural jurisdiction." This, in other words, was no pleasant fluff about tolerance for foreigners: This was a call for the evisceration of the British legal system as we know it.

Of course, Christopher Hitchens summed up the proper response most robustly, "To Hell With the Archbishop of Canterbury."

His reasoning, if one may call it that, is clear: Other faiths already have their own legal authorities, so why not the Muslims, too? What could be more tolerant and diverse? This same argument has been used already, and will be used again, to demand that laws governing "blasphemy," originally written to protect only Christians from being upset, should now, in a nondiscriminatory way, be amended to cover Muslims as well. The alternative—don't have any blasphemy laws and let religious people's feelings be hurt, just as the feelings of the secular are regularly offended by religion—doesn't occur to the archbishop and people who think like him.

A BBC interview with Williams had him saying that the opening to sharia would "help maintain social cohesion." If that phrase is even intended to mean anything, it can only imply that a concession of this kind would lessen the propensity to violence among Muslims. But such abjectness is not the only definition of social cohesion that we have. By a nice coincidence, a London think tank called the Center for Social Cohesion issued a report just days before the leader of the world's Anglicans and Episcopalians capitulated to Islamic demands. Titled "Crimes of the Community: Honour-Based Violence in the UK," and written by James Brandon and Salam Hafez, it set out a shocking account of the rapid spread of theocratic crime. The main headings were murder and beating of women, genital mutilation, forced marriage, and vigilante methods employed against those who complained. It could well be—since we are becoming every day more familiar with the first three—that the fourth is the one that should concern us most.

How exactly do we reconcile the civil rights movement, the women's liberation movement, the disability rights movment - any movement worthy of the name - with liberating certain groups to violate everything America stands for? So, Joe from five generations of Idaho-ans can't murder the daughter who ticks him off, but if he converts to Islam he can?

Talk about the paving stones on the road to hell.

Who the hell knows what to think with those British.
If they have seperation of church and state, it should apply equally to all "churches".
If they do not, then, I say, let them suffer as they so desire. Let the Arch Bishop adopt Halal dietary rules and see how long before a full-blown shooting war develops over the legal status of Kidey-pie and pork liverworst.

Bottom line first: University students (who later "grow into the Power Structure") bow to the social mores of their situation--they're good boys and girls... At the same time they want to prove their veracity to their "dean..." they aren't truly "very scared" of the school authorities... Like with drinking--every few years you hear about a case of alcohol toxicity... After graduation, such an ilk metamorphoses--those precise social mores "disappear"--no longer is one corralled by peer review.

Such..., instead we have what are, in truth, undisciplined bully boys...!!!

What about those Walgreens executives who got busted for ordering out--for certain "good" illegal aliens to be driven right over the border and into their employ...

Meaning...: the "unusual foreign elements" in society are out of sync with us...?, or, simply, we can't expect to embrace a SOP in which foreigners... are exploited to somehow turnout otherwise...

Here in the U.S., the USDOJ is always ordering the cops to submit a racial profile of the stops they make--to combat a racially motivated SOP...

People say: SO What if the cops target such...

Yet kids are taught that the day may come when they're going to have to make terrific sacrifices fighting for their country... But, with Vietnam at least, it's the poor (read minorities) who did all the actual fighting...
My argument was leading up to the idea that we should be importing guest workers to stay in guest "camps" such that neither "side" is "affronted" by the more of the other... But, it occurs to me, that then who would do all the fighting...!!! (Not to affront our troops "at war...")

Let foreigners come here, make a bundle working..., then leave after a year... They'd be living with their own people...

Isn't the Koran the best word here--about being tolerant towards other faiths...

As far as I'm concerned there's nothing wrong with truth and justice for all!!!!

Ben, you forgot to mention that The Talmud is hate book as well. Let us not be one sided. In Peter Schaefer’s new book, Jesus in the Talmud Schaefer, who heads up Princeton’s Judaic studies program, has collected and analyzed all the passages in the Talmud that refer to the founder of Christianity, texts that were previously self censored from Talmud editions in recent times. In his book he argues that the scandalous passages indeed refer not to some other figure of ancient times but to the famous Jesus of Nazareth.
What exactly is so scandalous? How about Jesus punished in Hell for eternity by being made to sit in a cauldron of boiling excrement? That image appears in early manuscripts of the Babylonian Talmud, as does a brief account of Jesus’ trial and execution—not by the Romans but by the Jewish high court, the Sanhedrin. The Jewish community, to the extent Jews were even aware of these excised texts, has been content to let them remain obscure and unknown.
This undermines a widespread assumption that, of Judaism’s and Christianity’s respective sacred texts, only the Christian Gospels go out of their way to assail the rival faith, whereas Judaism’s classical texts refrain from similar attacks.
It seems fair to say now, however, that the Talmud is every bit as offensive to Christians as the Gospels are to Jews.
The Talmud’s scattered portrait of Jesus unapologetically mocks Christian doctrines including the virgin birth and the resurrection. Which isn’t to say that the rabbinic invective is meant simply to insult. In his book, the author calls the Talmud’s assault on Christian claims “devastating.”
“It is a very serious argument,” said Schaefer, who emphasizes that the rabbis’ stories about Jesus were never intended as an attempt at historically accurate narrative. Rather, in the classic Talmudic style, they encode legal and theological argumentation in the form of sometimes-imaginative storytelling.
