Die Hard Clintonites Plan Trouble for Dem Convention
I'll be the first admit I don't know how much of a threat this is to Obama.
Frustrated supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) are planning multiple rallies at the Democratic convention in Denver, coupled with television and print advertisements....
The Denver Group, formed a couple of months ago by two Clinton backers, says it has filmed a television commercial and is looking to air it soon....Meanwhile, another pro-Clinton group called "18 Million Voices" is organizing a march on Aug. 26 in Denver "and nationwide to support Sen. Clinton and advocate for women's rights worldwide."
... some of the Denver Group's goals are contrary to the Democratic Party's. Its goals include: an open convention; Clinton's name placed in nomination with no symbolic roll call vote; speeches allowed by supporters of Clinton on behalf of her candidacy; a genuine roll call vote with Clinton as a legitimate candidate; and "no coronation."
...Regardless of any accord Clinton and Obama come to, the planned rallies could become a focus of the media’s attention instead of the heavily scripted themes of the convention.
The Denver Post recently reported that Clinton backers will hold signs that read, "Denounce Nobama's Coronation."
You should read the whole thing. There's a lot rumbling under the surface right now. I'm starting to think that not even Hillary Clinton can put all of this to bed. Of course, it wouldn't hurt for her to try.
Comments
i'm sorry. if hillary and bill really truly cared about the issues, the people, the country, the election, one fifteenth as much as they care about their own pathetic short-term egos, this kind of organizing would not be taking place, because loud, eloquent, sincere, and intense articulations of why this is all a terrible, terrible way to go, and of why there is so much to be excited about and focused and organized and unified for would be coming from the clinton camp. in the press, in private, and everywhere in between. this kind of thing really could be very very dangerous.
@$$holes need to get a life...seriously, they need to get a friggin life. their hero worship is juvenile and pathetic.
i have to wonder if these groups employ pathetic souls to wander the blogs and respond to negative comments...

If the DNC, the Obama camp and fraud and liar John Edwards had played fairly, the Hillary supporters would not have any issues...
...however the DNC rigged the primary season for Obama and then pressured superdelegates to fall in line behind him and hounded Hillary to get out of the race starting with New Hampshire...
...if the DNC had a fair caucus system, instead of one where complaint after complaint had been registered but ignored...
...if the DNC had not taken delegates from Hillary regarding Florida and Michigan and now conveniently when they don't matter, Obama cynically wants to restore them to full strength...
...if the DNC, under the guise of Donna Brazile, had not tilted the urban districts with disproportinate delegates to give Obama the tilt...
...if the Obama camp had not cynically labeled Bill and Hill racists, liars, selfish, old politics, etc
...if Donna Brazile had not stated that the 'new Democratic party' doesn't really need the working class, etc...
...if the MSM and 'the so-called Progressive Left' had been fair to Hillary instead of attacking nonstop to the extent of labeling her a f'ing whore...and all the other dismissive sexist BS...
well, if some of those things and a long list of many more had not occurred and modicum of fairness had been established...
...even with Hillary winning all the big states the Dems need with large margins and winning the popular vote...
...then perhaps the VOTERS that kept VOTING because the DEMOCRATIC BASE OF VOTERS kept choosing Hillary, as opposed to rigged caucuses and unfair district appropriations...then maybe those VOTERS would not have any issues that they are going to fight for...
...do not blame Hillary when the VOTERS that did not support OBAMA in the primaries and do not seem to be rallying to him now...even with all his razzle dazzle and hoopola and devoted adulation of the MSM...do not blame the VOTERS...they tried to give you the message in the primaries...but the DNC was hellbent on selecting Obama...the most inexperienced candidate the Democrats have ever put up...
...so do not blame the voters...you can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time...
...and you cannot force people to vote for someone when their heart just is not in it...

oh, and let me add one more thing...if things were reversed and Hillary was the nominee...the Obama supporters would not only be protesting they would be threatening and rioting in the streets...
ever try to have a rational discussion with any of these charming followers?
btw...Hillary would have already selected Obama as her VP...our team would be driving our polls thru the roof and our team would be storming the country converting republican moderate women and men...
...but no, we had to take a few months for the Democratic rockstar to take a victory tour thru Europe and the middle east...a tour that ironically frozen his polls numbers...
now we all await, his rockstar ego extravaganza at a football stadium with 70,000 screaming fans reduced to Obamamania
so if uncommiteed voters aren't buying this sideshow...don't blame Hillary...she is doing everything she can to help Obama...after her own party screwed her...so spare us
you can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time

Hillary risks becoming the new Ralph Nader of the Democratic Party. The ego that put another McBush in the White House.

I think that the conflict might transform the American presidential election into something much more democratic. People who have conviction should act on those convictions. If Obama is a barely victorious candidate tottering on a shaky foundation, let the vote reveal that at the convention.

S - Hillary seemed OK with the system, her party, the rules and everything that you mention at the start of the primaries, but when it looked like she was loosing, it became a problem?
Sorry folks, but if you buy that load - you've been had. And it just goes to show you how easy it is to manipulate the American people. You folks are LEMMINGS!
I love "and nationwide to support Sen. Clinton and advocate for women's rights worldwide."
What a set up. Anyone who says that this will be bad for the party will be labeled anti-women. Incredible!!!

It does come off as a 'tantrum'. Can you imagine how these grown ups acted in the grocery store check out line twenty, thirty, forty years ago, when Mommy wouldn't let them get a Pez dispenser? Now all these big babies are organized and converging on the DNC convention. Let's throw them all into shopping carts and send them down a hill.

Dear S.
If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride.
Why would Hillary supporters vote for McCain? He's sneered at your candidate. Didn't one of his rabid fans call Hillary a Bitch? Did McCain correct her or tell her that was uncalled for and did he apologize for it? No, he snickered about it. Did you like the vulgar joke McCain told about Chelsea, Hillary and Janet Reno? I thought it was disgusting and showed how McCain has such a total disregard, and disrespect for women. And you want to vote for him? He insulted you candidate in the worst, most vile way. He even suggest that his wife join in on a vulgar "beauty contest". He sneered and snickered and made comments about Hillary that were childish and misogynistic. And you want to vote for this guy?
Please, calm down and think about this rationally. You actually will get behind a candidate that insulted Hillary and all American women?

But Cleo - Obama and the media STOLE the election!!! Don't you get it? Victimization is the great American rally cry.
Maybe MoveOn.org should start another petition?

I did not say one word about Hillary supporters or other uncommitted VOTERS voting for Obama...
...what I commented on are the grievances of long time and loyal Dems and their disgust with how the DNC manipulated the primary season...
are you all really trying to tell me that if things were reversed the Obama people would just be falling into line...give me a break...
last time I looked, Dems were not babysitters for Obama...if we have a problem with our party we are going to speak up...get used to it..
Roy, my dear, you would be there first one out there screaming for Obama to be VP and have his roll call...and you know it...
a little integrity and honesty in the Dem party would be nice for a change

check that...not one word about supporters or voters VOTING FOR MCCAIN...
...perhaps a Freudian slip...
Posted by: S on 08/12/08 at 8:55 AM Respond
Um, S, that was probably in response to the threats made months back by Hillary supporters to vote for McCain rather than for the DNC that they claim to have such a stake in. Why wouldn't they vote for McCain? Even Hillary was happy to endorse him over Obama when it suited her purposes to do so. Hillary and Bill are out for Hillary and Bill. Party doesn't mean s--t to them. For the record, it doesn't to me much anymore. I'd call myself a non-party Progressive or just plain Liberal before I'd claim being a Democrat these days.

Paul Miller...I recall you from MSNBC/First read...very hyper and very anti-clinton...
you say Bill and Hill are out for Bill and Hill...and just who is Obama out for? (insert big laugh!)
btw...Bill Clinton has done more for humanity and the world in his little finger than all his critics put together...this week alone he is in Africa trudging thru villages fighting aids and providing affordabale medicine to villagers...
Bill and Hill represent the other half of the Dem party...the base...the old party - boomers, seniors, asians, hispanics, lower/middle class, etc...Obama is the newcomer...the untested unknown...who already changes his mind so many times no one really knows what he will do...including you...FISA, no FISA, more religious exploitation that Bush, drill, no drill...my head is already spinning...he twists like a pretzel...
and God only knows what the MSM is hiding about Obama as in how they protected Edwards' behind for the last two years...God only knows...you certainly don't...Obama is one big gamble based on hype, anti-Clinton sentiment and 21stc marketing...(he should have been in the VP slot and grown into the presidency)
whatever...the air is going out of his balloon...he is flying to close to the flame...trying to hard to do too much to fast...
and just what does Mr. Ego and the DNC have against Hillary's roll call? this is a Democratic tradition since 1884 and suddenly the need to glorify and bolster Obama takes precedent?
What are they afraid of? that maybe Hillary really isn't that divisive and many people really love and admire her...yes, that's right...
message to the Obama fanatics...the other half of the Dem party does not feel like 'babysitting for Obama' and nursing his ego...
...let the woman have the roll call she earned and deserves...let the woman have her HISTORIC MOMENT recorded for history...its bad enough that Obama, the MSM, the DNC, etc did everything they could to squelch the first woman's achievement and accomplishment...
some dems have minds of their own and think for themselves...we are not all robotic followers...
if you do not like independent thinkers maybe you should check out the repubs or Putin...
and if you had any intellectual honesty you would know that if things were reversed you would be fighting for your candidate's respect and recognition...
...and guess what...I would be on your side to let him have it...
...there is nothing to fear but fear itself...sentiments of another old Dem

Hillary had 18 Million AND won the popular vote...and all the big states the Dems need...
she kicks butt...Hillary is like the master class teacher and Obama is like the substitute teacher...
however it is still a free country and everyone is entitled to their opinion...
I do not have as much faith in freedom of speech in the democratic party anymore...it is getting very threatening and totalitarian and self censoring...all tactics ushered in by Obama and his supporters...their way or no way...scarier than Bush...
...like I said earlier...if things were reversed his supporters would be rioting in the streets...they have absolutely no room to talk

What Obama, Obama supporters and those who are for "party unity" fail to recognize - to their own detriment - that this is beyond Hillary's control. This is not about Hillary, get it? Hillary's run revealed - NOT caused - the existing division within the party between moderate and very leftist, Moveon.org type democrats. Add to that the profound insult many professional, working women felt and could relate to (even those who at the end supported Obama) during primaries that HRC endured and you have the current situation. The venom - not passion - exibited by Obama supporters on numerious blogs, rallies and just on the streets on primary election days made it hard to forget and forgive for a lossing side of Dems primary voters. The looser - HRC - acted superbly graceciously and quick (consession speech in 4 days after the primaries and a brilliant speech in Unity for unity just few weeks later ). But it takes a graceious winner - that Obama and his supporters are anything but - to win over the loosing side's supproters. People don't like to be taken for granted so saying "get over it and get in line" won't do it. A give-and-take would help but such a bullying campaign as Obama's has been doesn't feel a need for building alliances and so be it. maybe it is time for a strong third, fouth and many other parties and that will be trully a democratic system and post-partisan in the end because it will force to work toward a consensus vs. 51% majority and then going unchecked in governing. I am personally sick of both parties at this point.

btw...now Obama expects mandatory 'volunteerism' to be lucky enough to qualify to maybe get a ticket to see him at his football stadium extravaganza...
...and have you seen the cages that the Democratic party and Denver authorities have ready for anyone that dares dissent in Denver...
...nice going...watch half the Dem party walk away...
...who needs this BS?
...a strong dem congress and divided government with a lame duck Prez is going to sound pretty good to voters who are not in the Obama trance...
