Wanna Work for Obama? Prepare for a Strip Search
CNN has the scoop on the background check it takes even to be considered for a 'Bama job:
The Obama transition team is sending a seven-page, 63-item questionnaire to every candidate for Cabinet and other high-ranking positions in the incoming administration.
The questions cover everything from information on family members, Facebook pages, blogs and hired help to links to Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, American International Group and troubled banks as well as lawsuits, gifts, resumes, loans and more.
...It also asks about writings, speeches, testimony, online communications and even personal diaries.
An entire section requests details on any criminal or civil legal action in which the applicant may have been involved. The last question in that 11-item section asks for details on any child support or alimony orders.
In an apparent effort to avoid the problems faced by several nominees in the last two administrations, a block of four questions is devoted to ferreting out details—including the immigration status—of any domestic help the applicant may have hired....
I include these details (follow the link for the full Monty) just to camouflage which, of many, would disqualify me. But I think this one is enough without his henchmen ever getting to that pesky marijuana farm I, or someone who bore a striking resemblance to 'me,' ran. Allegedly.
Or the 'toy boys' I've cougar-ed, er...'mentored' post-divorce. Again... allegedly. Then there was that 'freedom ride' to Canada for black market estrogen and arch supports... as the rumor mill has it. Why, oh why, did I twitter that trip?
But let me just say this about that piece so infamous and misunderstood as to have landed me on the Colbert Report: Grow up. Grapple with what I actually wrote, not what your jerking knees translated it to.
Not having a shot at working for Obama doesn't bother me anywhere near as much as being so pathetically misunderstood by a nation of kneejerks.
Comments
Debra, I really appreciate your posts and I've read enough of them to know you like to stay out of the comments portion. Still, I am so curious about what was going through your mind during the Colbert interview. Generally, I find him funny and charming, but like most comedians, there is a streak of just plain wrong in him at times. It's like when Bill Maher reveals his latent homophobia or his not so latent sexism. On one level I see these guys as on 'my side' of the world view divide, yet we are, in small and important ways, still worlds apart. So, watching Colbert and seeing how he seemed to want to make your concept ridiculous for the sake of comedy, it was easy to think of him as a jerk. Kneejerk. Dickjerk. Whatever.
Will you let me know what you were thinking at the time it was happening or how you think on it now? Just burning with curiosity.
Just to be ultra-cautious, I suggest they add the following.
Section IV.
64. Have you ever seen evidence of WMD's in a satellite photograph?
65. Have you ever paid for a AAA rating for a financial product you sold?
66. Have you ever been a Governor of Alaska?

It's all acceptable because it comes from corporate club, Obama.

I could get on his staff with ease. I have never posted anything that I would be embarrassed about. His "centrist" government might feel embarrassed. After all, I'm not the one ducking discussion on the issues I speak out on. Unlike most of his central staff, I don't lie. I don't deliberately mislead the public. I stand behind every position that I take - no matter how far outside the mainstream it seems to "centrists". Sadly, none of those hiring will stand behind their "differences of opinion".
I've got nothing in my past to be ashamed about. I had no sexual partners before I hooked up with my spouse. I actually practiced celibacy. While I used illegal and legal drugs and even on occasion abused them I never engaged in risky or embarrassing behavior while under the influence. When someone says "it was the drugs that made me a criminal" in a drug war political rally I say "nonsense", "balderdash" or some form of bovine raw sewage. Sign me up Barack, I've got nothing to hide - unlike most of your staff who won't engage radicals like myself on many issues.

Is it me, or does every one of Debbie's post end up being about her?
Blueberry - If you weren't such a w***e, it wouldn't be a problem! :)
Maybe instead of a shot of Gardasil, you should drink a big ol' mug of Get-the-f**k-over-it. You can always stay in Canada.
As for the questionnaire, good. They are doing their homework. Better than pulling a W and just picking from the ol boy network (save for Powell) or Clinton and making your choices based on color/gender/race quota (3 candidates for AG were all women).

JT - You are so right. Man, I wish McCain would have won.
You and BlueBerryW***e should share a mug till you see what he man does. Or you can rabbit on like a complete ass about sh*t you know nothing about.

"I had no sexual partners before I hooked up with my spouse. I actually practiced celibacy."
THAT is the definition of celibacy!
NOT the definition of chastity. Please DON'T
confuse the two!
Celibacy refers to marriage, chastity to sex.
I am celibate, as I have never been married. I am certainly not chase.

I don't think anyone is implying that if you have alimony or a child support order, or if you're a gun owner that you wouldn't qualify for an appointment. I think the questionaire is a proactive measure meant to reduce the possible flaws of past administrations. Crossing your T's and dot your I's i.e. due diligence never hurt anyone

As someone who was similarly mentored by an older woman, I just wanted to pass on my thanks for women like you making life better. Maybe if there was more mentoring going on we would have so many blue-balls Repubs substituting the need for power for the need for pleasure.

Alleged You-Know-What 'Farm', eh? Indoor, Outdoor, Organic, Hydro???
What we need here, is some 'Change' YOU AND I want to believe could happen, now that all of us are 'rational adults, in charge'; but then I have to take Poison Pills without the 'P' - and I want My Hydro-Organic to be fully L-word; howza 'bout youz?

I am happy to see that Obama is very careful about whoever he hires to help him. We have had enough rotten individuals who have somehow gotten into some facet of government.

I think everyone is missing the point that abilty is absolutely secondary to any skeletons in the closet. The republicans took the concept of "if you can't beat their ideas, destroy them personally." and made it the lay of the Washington Landscape. There is no redemption; there is growing up and becoming wiser; there is no learning from mistakes; there is no admitting wrongs and trying to make them right. Until we start to understand we are all fallible human beings prone to make mistakes along our journey through life and these errors don't necessarily invalidate us forever we will never have the best and brightest in all circumstances. Karl Rove has permanently poisoned politics in the country.

Oh, come on, Jim. Nothing is permanent and even the Rove fallout cannot last forever. Don't buy into the eternal victim role that progressives weight themselves down with too often.
