A Brief History of the Radical Right
Explaining Scott Roeder’s journey from anti-government extremist to anti-abortion fanatic.
The revelation that Scott Roeder, the alleged murderer of Dr. George Tiller, belonged to an anti-government, white separatist group called the Montana Freemen might seem like an unlikely twist. After all, such groups are generally thought of as either indifferent to the issue of abortion or actively enthusiastic about its potential for reducing the nonwhite population. As it turns out, however, the journey from radical racialist to anti-abortionist isn't as unusual as you might think.
Roeder's connections to the right-wing fringe began well over a decade ago, according to the Kansas City Star. His ex-wife, Lindsey, said that after a few years of marriage, Roeder became increasingly involved with the Freemen and its anti-government ideology. "The anti-tax stuff came first, and then it grew and grew. He became very anti-abortion…That's all he cared about is anti-abortion. 'The church is this. God is this.' Yadda yadda." Noting that she vehemently disagreed with her ex-husband's views, Lindsey Roeder told the Star that he moved out in 1994. "I thought he was over the edge with that stuff," she said. "He started falling apart. I had to protect myself and my son."
In 1996, Roeder was arrested in Topeka after sheriff deputies stopped his car because it had no license plate. Instead, the Star reported, "it bore a tag declaring him a 'sovereign' and immune from state law. In the trunk, deputies found materials that could be assembled into a bomb." Roeder was convicted, sentenced to two years probation, and told to stay away from far-right groups. A state appeals court subsequently overturned the conviction.
Roeder and the Freemen belonged to a little-recognized nativist political movement that began in the early 20th century, flared up periodically, and then ripped through the American heartland during the farm depression of the mid-1980s. This movement was often called "the posse," after a core group named the Posse Comitatus. Like any political movement, it consisted of a myriad of shifting entities that appeared and disappeared. But even though the names of the groups often changed, they all held tightly to the notion that the true white sovereigns, who had rightfully been given this land by God, were being threatened by race traitors "inferior races" creeping across the borders from Mexico and lands farther south. A favorite posse image was a drawing of a man hanging by the neck from a tree on a hill. Below in the distance stands a group of armed men. A sign is scrawled on the drawing. It says "The posse."
Over the years, this movement has encompassed various remnants of the Ku Klux Klan, what was left of Lincoln Rockwell's Nazis, the national socialists of William Pierce, and skinheads. Sometimes, adherents of the Posse ideology operated underground. Sometimes, they attempted to win support via electoral politics, like the white supremacist David Duke, who ran numerous times for statewide and national office. Terry Nichols, who along with Timothy McVeigh carried out the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, dabbled with the concept of sovereign citizenship. The militia movement, too, was an outgrowth of the posse movement. Daniel Levitas, author of a book about the phenomenon, has described Roeder's group, the Montana Freemen, as "the direct ideological descendants of the Posse Comitatus."
The Freemen aimed to rid the nation of "14th Amendment citizens"—anyone who wasn't a white Anglo Saxon directly descended from God. Nonwhites, or "mud people," weren't really people at all, but God's failed attempts to create Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. A bad Xerox copy, they used to say. These beliefs derived from a school of thought known as Christian Identity, which holds that Jews, blacks, and other minorities aren't actually people and therefore don't deserve constitutional rights. Instead, those rights are reserved for so-called "white Sovereigns," who aim to take over government and run it through grand juries of the people, with laws enforced by old-time posses.
The Freemen achieved notoriety in 1995, when they moved into a foreclosed farm in Garfield County, Montana, which they named Justus Township. Here they cached weapons and ammunition, dug bunkers, stockpiled food, and cut off a county road. They prepared for a siege with the feds. But the FBI eventually brought in an attorney connected to the Aryan Nations and worked out a surrender deal. Some of the Freemen were prosecuted for running a check scam. (One of the most detailed accounts of the Freemen and the unraveling of the far-right movement is contained in Blood and Politics, a new book by Leonard Zeskind. He is the leading historian of the scene.)
One might think that the divisions between pro-life Christians and far-right racists would preclude any sort of working alliance. Evangelical Christians thought that the creation of Israel was a sign of the Second Coming of Christ and became keen supporters of that country. The racialists, meanwhile, hated Israel and detested Jerry Falwell for supporting it. The Klan historically loathed Catholics, and modern far-right leaders like Tom Metzger in California thought abortion was a great way to stem the tide of brown and black babies who were burdening the welfare system and who as adults would threaten white political power.
In the early and mid-'80s, however, the racialist underground often railed against abortion. I wrote about this development in the Village Voice:
Bob Mathews, leader of a terror gang known as The Order, saw abortion as the suicide of the white race. Jim Wickstrom, the Christian Identity leader of another underground terror group called the Posse Comitatus, ranted against Jewish doctors and nurses who engaged in abortion. Posse screeds claimed the space program was part of a plot to get rid of aborted fetuses by blasting them into space.
By the 1990s, the far right had started to attack abortion clinics. Ray Lampley, a far-right racialist in Oklahoma, and two members of a national militia were convicted in federal court of conspiring to bomb abortion clinics (along with gay bars, welfare offices, an Anti-Defamation League office, and the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Alabama). In Spokane, Washington, three men who claimed ties to a group called the Phineas Priesthood were charged with the bombings of a newspaper office and a Planned Parenthood clinic. The group is named for a Bible story in which Phinehas slew an interracial couple. Today's Phineas Priesthood has been popularized by the white separatist William Pierce, whose 1989 book, The Hunter, tells the story of a drive-by killer who starts out murdering interracial couples and works his way up to killing Jews in order to save the future of white civilization. Paul Hill, who was sentenced to death for the murder of an abortion doctor and his escort, has written an essay calling for "Phineas actions." In 1994, he told USA Today, "I could envision a covert organization developing—something like a pro-life IRA." (Hill was executed in 2003.)
What was the bridge between the posse movement and anti-abortionist fanaticism? The Sovereign crowd viewed women as chattel, and the prospect of an independent woman deciding to seek an abortion didn't sit well with them. I gained some insight into this line of thinking in another piece I once wrote about a young woman in Oklahoma who aspired to join the Christian Identity group, hoping that its followers would teach her to shoot and become a guerrilla. Instead, the men asked her for sex. When the woman replied that she wanted a relationship first, one of them replied, "Women are for breeding." According to one faction of the group, women who have abortions are race traitors and should be stoned to death. With that in mind, the fact that some members of the far-right became violent anti-abortionists perhaps shouldn't come as such a surprise.
This is not quite up to the
This is not quite up to the usual standards of Mother Jones; there are errors in it.
The first that I picked up was the writer's use of the phrase "race traitors" in quotes, as though that were a common way that right-wing extremists allude to people who breech the border from other countries. Incorrect: the way they use it, it means someone of one race who takes up the cause of a people of another race, against the interests of one's own race.
It also means (to them) a person of one race who intermarries or interbreeds with other races.
That is one of several mistakes in this piece; the others are less significant but still demonstrate various misunderstandings by the writer.
You're right as far as my
You're right as far as my first use of "race traitors" goes--I appreciate the comment and have made a correction. (Glad to hear any other suggestions you have, as well.)
The second use of the term--where I say that Christian Identity groups view white women who have abortions as "race traitors"--is accurate. These women are seen as killing white babies and reducing the white population, while allowing the other races to multiply. This is perceived as being, as you say "against the interests of their own race," since they want whites to keep their numbers up for the anticipated race wars.
Christofascist terrorists--why aren't THEY being waterboarded?
I am struck by the number of sympathisers that this Scott Rodent has.
Indeed, we have a whole movement of fundamentalist Christofascist terrorists in this country, as dangerous as anything Middle Eastern Muslims have to offer. For one thing, because of our idiotic gun laws, the Christofascists have much greater access to firepower by virtue of the fact that they live here in the United States.
So, the question is, what to do? At a minimum, all of the Christofascist anti-abortion choice groups need to be given National Security letters and subjected to sneak and peek searches, so we can find out just who are their sympathisers and collaborators. We need a separate gulag to where they can be taken, without trial or any way to contest the charges against them, and held until every last one of them is rooted out and their movement destroyed. Those that refuse to cooperate can and should be tortured, including waterboarding and extraordinary rendition if necessary.
After all, you're either with us, or you're with the terrorists.
Christofacist?.....No where
Christofacist?.....No where in Christ's teaching's does the Lord advocate such behavior. Another intolerant liberal who cannot seem to grasp the failings of man. To be overtly cliche...Guns don' kill people...people kill people. BTW guns are illegal in Mexico yet that doesn't seems to stop criminals from owning them.
Yet again a liberal, tolerant, democrat has outsmarted the framers of our Constitution!
Oh, come on
Look. Saying that Christofascism can't exist because Christ doesn't advocate that sort of behavior us so ridiculous I can't believe you actually said it. Religion is constantly misappropriated in order to suit the needs of men.
It's common parlance in American journalism to refer to the religion as "Islam" and the misappropriated terror movement as "Islamofascism." Why not do it with Christianity, too? Or is that too close to home for you bible-thumpers?
Also, what does any of your drivel have to do with "liberals"?
Well, anonymous... though
Well, anonymous... though I'm not necessarily Democrat or tolerant, I am liberal. And this liberal HAS outsmarted the founders in at least a few areas. I believe women should have the right to vote - the founders didn't. I believe slavery should be illegal - the founders didn't. I believe that treaties should be honored - the founders didn't (especially when it came to Native Americans).
As for the crazed anti-abortion movement - I believe these people have an obsessive compulsive focus on a singular issue that clouds out any other thoughts. The line separating stalkers and people like Randy Terry and this killer is razor thin, and it seems to me the same laws that apply to stalking victims could be applied to those that shadow and cyber-stalk abortion providers.
BOOOOOO!
Aren't you too old to believe in ghost stories? God? Indoctrination is a horrible thing. Avoid it at all costs!!

Not only does christ advocate but instructs. God is a vengeful, mean, baby murderer (he killed more people than hitler). On numerous occasions in the bible god killed and killed. He killed , babies, animals, men, and women. He didn't kill virgins....what a pervert! And christ himself said he wouldn't change a word of the instruction. PBS does a great piece on historical fact finding about the history of the bible. You might want to research what you follow before you open your mouth to condemn anyone else for what they believe. The bible is a great big lie!!!! Religion sucks!!!
legal guns in mexico and christofacism
Ok sure- you can't buy guns in Mexico- but you can buy them here easily and smuggle them across the border! And that is exactly what happens. This is not to say we need tougher gun laws- we need to use the ones that we have now.
Additionally, sure the teachings of christ are in no way extreme or fascist, but when did christians begin following his teachings infallibly. Intollerant "christianity" is commonand I would argue that this goes against christs teachings.
The leaders of these extremist groups are smart..and they seek sheeple who will beleive anything that these biggotted bastards shove down their throats...and that is how we get here. I dont think we should torture them, but i dont think we should underestimate the threat they potentially pose either.
Double Standard
So its very important to identify the killer of the abortion doctor as a white Christian but for some reason most of the media buries the fact that the killer of the soldier in Little Rock is a black, Muslim scumbag.
Wonder why????????
Every news item I've seen on
Every news item I've seen on the guy who shot the soldiers in Little Rock did mention that he was a black and a Muslim and had been arrested on Yemen for using a fake Somali passport. They also mentioned that he claimed to be motivated by his Muslim religion.
I think it was important to point out that the anti-choice shooter of the doctor claimed to be some kind of Christian -- people like to know motives in these things, and usually the shooters like to confess their motives as justification -- especially because he shot the doctor in church.
You love the clouds. We are
You love the clouds. We are talking about this article, had it been about the muslim, we would be talking about that article...stay with the subject and stop deflecting. It is immature and shows you have no legitimate argument.
most of the media buries the
most of the media buries the fact that the killer of the soldier in Little Rock is a black, Muslim scumbag.
Oh really? CNN says:
While authorities continued to investigate a motive, Thomas said Muhammad is a Muslim convert and, based on preliminary interviews with him, investigators believe there were “political and religious motives” in the shooting.
The 'scumbag' part is just your knuckle-dragging opinion.
In my opinion...
In response to the Anonymous poster that claimed, "...because of our idiotic gun laws, the Christofascists have much greater access to firepower by virtue of the fact that they live here in the United States," I find your statement to be an example of the callow and short-sighted drivel that the talking heads of the left have been spewing for years. The gun laws in our country are irrational and anyone who has purchased a firearm knows that depending on the state in which you reside, there are several "hoops" that you have to jump through. The fact that in California a carbine with bolt on it that might be used for a bayonet or a shotgun with a pistol grip are considered to be assault weapons shows how the perception of lethality determines the restriction of said weapon. If one were to look at the facts, most homicides occur between people that know each other personally and the weapon in question is usually a knife or some object used for bludgeoning.
What some of the left-leaners forget is that you cannot stop random acts of violence and that individuals with a criminal mentality will find a way to arm themselves. Timothy McVey used fertilizer. Ted Kaczynski made his bombs from scratch. William Ayers probably bought his bombs from the black market. The second amendment was put into the constitution for a reason and you might want to educate yourself as to why.
Lot ot trolls in here today
James N, just FYI, we can argue whether the founders foresaw everything all day, but we can't argue your alleged point regarding the second amendment. We've always known what the second amendment was for, and your "reasoning" misses that point completely. The second amendment was to provide for a defense force in the days before standing armies, not to allow every mentally ill fool or troll on a left leaning web site to own major firepower. READ the Constitution and the Federalist Papers, don't show your ignorance by making statements that just don't hold water.
The ignorance of the disloyal opposition is demonstrated by the lies being tossed about regarding the army recruiter shooter. I have YET to see a mention of this guy that DOESN'T make the expected point regarding his religious affiliation.
What should be giving all true loyal Americans fits is that the type of fascistic thought and behavior shown by the anti-abortion groups wedded to the worse sorts of anti-government rhetoric and underground activity of the militia movement have become mainstream GOP politics. They are no longer feeling constrained by the restrictions of the law, and the American military is disproportionately made up of this very dangerous type of non-citizen. Truly we may be in trouble.
fascist & anti-government???
Fascism by definition is trying to take over the government from within, ala Rove and 'Cheeny's' attempts to create a "permanent Republic majority." Anti-governmentalist would not take over the government because they believe they each are the government of themselves and "don't need no stinkin" government.
Thanks for the vocabulary lesson
SuTungpo, just because you took a political science class where your grade was determined by the level of sycophantic behavior you displayed, does not make you an expert in Constitutional law.
I have read the Federalist Papers and the Constitution several times and your attempt at an appeal to authority by setting yourself up as a scholar is sophomoric at best. All you have shown is that you can parrot your professor’s opinion and are incapable of original thought.
The second amendment was put into the Constitution because the founders knew the value of firearms in self-defense and to deter tyranny in the government. Also, the concept of the second amendment was rooted in the Magna Carta, which was the direct result of the oppressive laws passed by King John.
But thank you for the vocabulary lesson. I did not know what you meant by ‘troll’ and in looking it up I think you fit that description better than I do.
One of us didn't get it.
JamesN:
I may be wrong, but I think Anonymous poster's post was tongue-in-cheek. The idea that a "left-leaner" would call for waterboarding, warrantless searches, national security letters and banishment to gulags is a bit of a stretch. You seemed to have taken the bait, though.
Get your facts straight,
Get your facts straight, according to FBI data in 2005 Homicides by weapons:

The report that you refer to was derived from a study by the National Center for Juvenile Justice. If you research it further and look at their method of data collection you find that they're missing information from several states and the District of Columbia. The FBI also states that any errors are the fault of the NCJJ and not their own.
Arizona Sailor - It always
Arizona Sailor - It always blows my mind that people, especially males, are so very interested in abortion. That is an issue that, in my mind, should only be of importance to the mother...and possibly to the father. There are lots of good reasons for abortion, one of them being so that we do not allow more white brain-dead people to be born. It appears we have enough of them already.
These various neo-Nazi
These various neo-Nazi groups exist to gain through thuggery what they fail to obtain by hard work and study.
They contrive storys about divine superiority to change the subject from the true issues. Like someone who can't play chess so he starts using moves from checkers and insisting that God not only permits this but insists on it.
Before WW2, significant groups, mainly in the Mid West would come home from work (if these people had jobs), put on a Hitler uniform and proudly take the city bus to the rally where they could goose-step and sig-heil for a couple of gainful hours. They would trade verbal bumper-stickers to help them explain away their inferior social-stations in life--as communist and Jewish plots.
All that said: Late term abortions should minimally have stricter guidelines. As it stands, a woman can have a hang-nail and qualify. There should be a serious risk to the survival of the mom or if the child itself has threatening conditions (like a spine on the outside). Even though these Nazis are both crazy and mean, unrestricted abortions of viable late term children without a serious reason is just as crazy and every bit as mean.
to Trollstein
There are strict guidelines for late term abortions. Otherwise more than 2 doctor's in this country would be profiting from them. I have a friend who had a late term abortion when it was discovered that her fetus was so malformed that it wouldn't survive for very long when it was born. The fetus might have survived 4 - 5 days in great pain and with great needs for continuous medical intervention at at cost in the hundreds of thousands of dollars that I assure you their 'health plan' would not have covered.
Please people, think about the "opposition's" possible motive for doing good. It may be illogical and emotionally skewed, but it deserves a solid counterpoint, logically constructed to address the fears that prompt the beliefs.
(Note: seeing as there
(Note: seeing as there appears to be an overlap between pro-'lifers' (?) and support FOR the death penalty, not to mention their attitudes towards Dr. Tiller's murder, I find the term prolife very ironic).
Many of the anti-choice brigade insist on speaking so much about late-term abortions is that they are more photogenic from their point of view. Statistically, in the USA they are around 1.4% of ALL abortions carried out, and many tend to be in cases of danger to health of the mother or an nonviable fetus, or, indeed, due to a lack of information about abortion closer to home.
A late-term abortion is a more complicated procedure, which, would be better avoided, either by easier access to abortions in the first trimester, which is much less controversial, or -dare I say it- through comprehensive sex-education.
Hypocrisy
The fascist media once again proves themselves to be hypocrits extroidanaire. A patriotic US Army soldier gunned down i ncold blood by a muslim terrorist...almost nary a word... George (baby killer) Tiller.... prevented from performing his henious crimes..... is fast becoming a martyr...oh well....tis life
hey Ron
do you all get your marching orders from the same wingnut bloviator? I've seen this same utterly untrue, easily debunked lie posted on nearly all the progressive blogs. "all you lefties care about Tiller, but not a mention of those poor soldiers" Sorry pal, but that's complete BS. This tragedy has been roundly denounced by ALL decent Americans- left, right and anywhere in between. But leave it to a sick apologist like you to try to score cheap political points on the back of those dead soldiers. I'm sure their families would be proud to know that rather than honor their memories you decided to post meanspirited lies on the internet. And nary a word from the media? Do you live in a cave? Have you been spending time in Rick Warren's cone of silence? The story has been on every channel, every network, every newspaper since it happened. I have only one question for you wingers who so proudly parrot the drivel your fearless leaders command you to- do you actually believe the BS you spew or do you do it knowingly? I mean it's really difficult sometimes for the rest of us to tell where your abject stupidity lets off and your ugly, meanspirited dishonesty kicks in...
Let the woman decide.
Talk about religious hypocrites. We sure don't have to worry about foreign terrorists, we have our own home grown lurking in the dark, which is much worse. All women have a right to decide independently in all matters related to reproduction, including the issue of abortion. UN Human Rights Watch argues that "the denial of a pregnant woman's right to make an independent decision regarding abortion violates or poses a threat to a wide range of human rights” and states that where women's access to safe and legal abortion services are restricted, the following human rights may be at risk: the right to life, the right to health (or health care), right to freedom from discrimination, right to security of person, the right to liberty, the right to privacy, the right to information, the right to be free from cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment , the right to decide the number and spacing of children (reproductive rights), the right to freedom of thought, and the right to freedom of religion. So why don't we just apply the Canadian law. In the law, under section 223 of the Criminal Code of Canada, a fetus is a "human being ... when it has completely proceeded, in a living state, from the body of its mother whether or not it has completely breathed, it has an independent circulation or the navel string is severed." Clear.
And who do all these religious fanatics think they are that could force their murky religious fantasies on another human being. Religion is nothing else than some old fairy tales man made stories about something that does not exist. Get a life and let the woman decide what is best for her.
who gives a fuk what the UN
who gives a fuk what the UN says.. are you really trying to tell me that there is comparable coverage regarding the islamofacsist murdering the soldier... versus baby Killer Tiller being a casulty of war? is the right to murder a baby a basic human right? Tuiller sounds alot like Hitler.... hmmmm
To Ron
First off - you are an idiot. I'm really sorry to have to say this, but you obviously are not looking at facts, and refuse to look at facts.
Secondly - Almost all of the late term abortions that Tiller performed were on babies that were incredibly deformed or destined for death before birth, or soon thereafter. Hitler killed fully formed people, not pre-birthed deformities.

Abortion is a woman's decision and always should be hers and hers alone. Until the United States can fully support that view, we should ashamed.

I can’t speak for women (a lesson for us about half of us in this debate) but here’s why 98% of men are anti-abortion: they either can’t get laid, don’t get laid, don’t get laid well, or enough, most, if not all of the time. Have you ever seen a male abortion protester who looks like he’s having regular good sex, or remotely capable of attracting an attractive sexual partner? Exactly. But they can’t attack people for having sex/good sex when they are not having it themselves without coming off as the sad losers they are; what male wants to admit he’s not getting any, especially when he’s not getting any? So instead, he attacks the negative by-product of the sex he’d like to be having; that is, the un-wanted pregnancy, the abortion. What he hates is not the abortion, but that he is not allowed by his lack of looks and/or personality to have enough opportunity to create a life, sexually. So instead of correctly hating their own lack of f%$k-ability male abortion protesters choose to incorrectly hate the f#$ker. If they went to the gym and picked up a comb instead of a placard, they’d find a much better avenue to alleviate their gnawing frustrations of failure with women. In the mean time, if you’d like to see a real-life male sexual loser live and in-person, go to an abortion protest–they’re easy to spot; they’re all holding signs.
Jason Is On To Something
As a woman, I think you have really pinpointed a truism. These nuts don't respect women, they do see them as "breeding stock" therefore, why would they care if the sex was good for her or not? It is never about the woman or her pleasure, but his. It is all about some macho, gun thing and you know there is some truth to the theory that men who are enamored of guns and have to get their shots off with their guns, are really insecure men at best about their own sexuality. My Father was a hunter of animals, not people. He never sat and fretted that the government was coming to get him or his gun. The right-wing fundies are so paranoid that it is laughable. The saddest part is that these crazies are the ones who want to solve all their problems with force, a bigger hammer, a bigger bomb...they live in fear, life holds no real joy for them. Cheney and Bush epitomized their irrational fears and macho retorts of "bring it on", "go to war". I can't believe that sane people think this way, so therefore I just have to believe they are crazy.
Ethnic politics/abortion/etc.
I don't care what your heritage or ethnic background are, whatever, the issue of abortion lets women choose whether or not to go ahead with a pregnancy. If, for whatever reason they choose not to proceed, well, that's ultimately their choice.
I think a sub-text here that other commenters might have missed is simply this: Guys like to be in charge. 'Eraserhead' above thinks he's going to control society. I'm sorry, but to DO that, you have to run for office, and then you actually have to be proficient at running your office, and then you have to keep your shoes shined, be honest, or you'll get thrown back out of office. And, to add insult to injury, you won't be controlling society, you'll be serving the public, which in a way means that society will be controlling YOU (gasp).
Extremism: There's multiple sides to the whole ethnic extremism, to be exact, there's as many ethnic extremists as there are ethnicities. Why? Because stupidity and ignorance are equal-opportunity. You've got your black supremacists, your brown supremacists, your white supremacists, and everyone in between or differently-hued. But, one thing you don't have is anyone walking around reminding people to grow up, it seems.
I've been around 'white power' people before, and I was a little disgusted, AND afraid for my safety. Not nice people. But, they're one piece of a larger puzzle, various entities have been preaching this or that back and forth at each other for years, now. For YEARS. But, nobody really digs into all that stuff, up until something happens.
They're out there. They're out there. And, they've got computers, friends, and so forth. And, they're not all caucasian, either.
Today is D-day, the day that allied troops assaulted the french beaches, and countless scores died to make way for the main invasion force that eventually brought Nazi Germany to its' knees. SO many soldiers died on all sides in WWII that there are still graves marked 'unknown' all over europe. All to stop the Nazis, their 'master race' doctrine, and other ambitions they might have had, all blown to scrap at the hands of the American, British, French, and Russian military.
Gone was the institutionalized discrimination. Gone were the concentration camps. Gone were the plans to dominate all of Europe and points south and east. All gone, buried under megatons of rubble. And, there it should stay.
Germany has since been rebuilt. Once again, it sits at the center of Europe, democratic, lawful, civil, and trying to cope with economic hardships. Germany has neo-nazis, too, but they keep them in a place called 'jail', which is probably the right place for anyone of any extraction who deems it prudent to attack others based on ethnicity.
Trying to stop women from having abortions isn't going to help the 'master race', there. As torrents of people move in and make the United States their new home, tolerance will be the new watchword. 'Old' america, AKA 'crackerville', is on the way out. In its' place will be New America, which might bear more resemblance to a third-world ghetto than anything else, but c'est la vie, there. The whole world is gradually stumbling in that general direction, and though it not be America's fault, America is still the 'go to' country for other countries with social problems, even though as evidenced by this story, we still have some of our own.
Nothing happens in a vacuum. This Angry Young Man above has his counterparts in others regardless of color or gender. There have been issues and problems, and there are interracial frictions, and people don't know how to conduct themselves in public anymore. I just hope they make it illegal to be a skinhead, and be in the military. I once met a soldier who had 3 white power tattoos on him, and I'm very much against the U.S. Army becoming a de-facto continuation of the then-time German army. Too many people died to put a stop to that to allow it to be forgotten, and though this young man might not agree, that's the way it has to be.
If you support having children, then by all means, get married, and have several. But, be prepared TO support them, so that others don't have to.
White power, black power, brown power, I've seen and heard it all, there's one place that all of that goes, and it's the same place that they ended up in eastern Europe and WWII Germany. So, let's be AMERICANS, instead, and not 'go there'. That's my view.

christofascists have long history with racist militias
This article makes very necessary points. There were even more links between the violent anti-choice groups (including 'Operation Rescue') and far-right and racist militias. Many 'Rescue' leaders became a part of the US Taxpayers Party, where many of these links were deepened. The speeches of Matthew Trewhella and Randall Terry during that time reveal their embrace of the far-right. They were never treated as a significant concern by law-enforcement, even after 9/11. There was even a hit-list and manifesto that called for the killing of doctors and other terrorist acts. Rev. Bookburn - Radio Volta
Abortion
I keep hearing the monotonous argument that pro-lifers are hypocrites because they favor capital punishment. ( Some do, some don't. ) But if you pro-choice know-it-alls can't tell the difference between a nine-month fetus and a Jeffrey Dahmer or a Ted Bundy, I would have to tell you that you have a really serious personal problem somewhere.

That pro-lifers are hypocrites because they believe in capitol punishment, I believe pro-lifers are hypocrites because they've never had an unwanted pregnancy. I believe pro-lifers are hypocrites because they want other people to do what they think is appropriate. I believe pro-lifers are hypocrites because they supported a war that killed thousands of pregnant women in Iraq. I believe pro-lifers are hypocrites because they would kill a spider that was crawling on them even though there are many entomologists that consider that spider precious and adoptable.
But the most obvious form of hypocrisy is evident in the murder of a gynecologist. In a church. Committing an illegal act in retribution for him doing his job LEGALLY.
Interestingly, I suspect
Interestingly, I suspect that it will be the Japanese companies who are manufacturing in the US that will be able to adapt to this most quickly, putting further hurt on the big three. With any luck Chrysler and GM will just give up the ghost and stop coming back for billion-dollar handouts.tiffany jewelry
