Friday Cat Blogging - 3 October 2008
FRIDAY CATBLOGGING....Here are my cats responding to today's passage of the bailout bill. Inkblot is hiding in the bushes, which must mean he thinks financial oblivion is still nigh, while Domino is perky and playful, which must mean she thinks all our problems are behind us. How is your critter taking the news?
Need more cats? Check out Cats for Obama. If it's any indication, Obama has the feline vote locked up.

Domino is perky? She looks like she's just eaten way too many cheesies and is ready to scarf.
And are you sure Inkblot was opposed to the bailout bill?
For Domino, that is perky. (Actually, she's playing with a string just outside the frame of the picture. That would be more obvious if she were waving her paws around, but all the action shots were just blurs and I couldn't use them.)
Inkblot is opposed to bailing out fat cats. You see, he doesn't think of himself as fat....
Inkblot is winking at me.
Inkblot is winking at me.
Maybe so, but Inkblot would never mix up his generals.
Domino is making my cat feel better about her figure.
Well, I have had two girls - litter-mates - for eight years who are now 12 years old. One, Emily Jamal is small, black-with-a-little-white, extremely bright, is a definite "Demo-cat". Her sister (or half-sister, I suspect) is a "Fat-cat Republican", Phaedra Simmons, is a big, gorgeous, dumb-as-a-box-of-rocks, tabby/white mix.
Then, three months ago, I saw a picture in our local Sunday-reg of an adorable pure-tabby called "Alice", who was up for adoption as "cat-of-the-week". I adopted her. She's 2 years old, just precious, smart, out-going, gentle, who gets along fabulously with her two new "sissies".
I renamed her "Alice Obama", which everyone thinks is adorable. So, she's truly an "Obama cat"!
Cats for Obama
Of course cats are for Obama - he's a secret Muslim. You do know that Muhammad was a cat lover, right?
So where are Inkblot and Domino on the CatsforObama.com site?
That's Inkblot hiding in the bushes? I had thought it was Vice President Cheney .....
That Domino is one fat cat. Must be a banker. A very happy banker.
I would love to agree with the cats for Obama except I think cats are perfect Republicans. I say that as a servant to 4.5 of them (cats that is not Republicans). The 0.5 is for a gorgeous little calico kitten that we're fostering...and will probably keep, 'cos she's soooo cute. Cats think that's mine and so is that and that and that! They hate sharing, and redistribution of food/toys/windowsills is always frowned upon. However they'll never take over the world because they just can't figure out how to unite (kind of like the Repubs right now...I hope). I think dogs may have the corner on the Dems market although cats are most certainly elitist and would never like to be called Joe 6-pack, so they have that covered.
Heather,
Of course cats are republicans and dogs are dems. Haven't you heard the saying ' "dogs have owners, cats have staff".
One of my cats just honked up a huge hairball... and we all know what that means...
She's looking to cash in on the bailout--sell some worthless assets--and start fluffing up again with on the taxpayer's dime.
But wait — there's also Cats For Mccain! But wait again! if you actually go to that site, there's only one entry: "It's Official: Cats Prefer Obama."
cats have staff
There are antibiotics for that...
My critter is a border collie. Her economy is simple -- she eats X lbs each day, spends Y lbs of that playing and laying around, and dumps the difference in the backyard.
I am glad she hasn't learned to do leverage. Can't imagine feeding her X lbs and having to pickup 100 * X lbs each day :-)
That was good rational, you win the friday catblogging thread, even though your post was canine directed.
My cat is the ultimate elitist, but like his owners, he thinks of himself more as a liberal than as a democrat and can just go on and on about why there is a significant dif between the two. When Biden and Palin were giving the same sex marriage question the hot potato treatment last night, they were sort of like two cats doing stupid pet tricks.
Our Democratic cats and dogs are pretty sensitive to the polical - economic environment because they are really tuned in to how we feel about what is happening. For example, my German Sheperd, Baruch 'Obama' (Baruch - Hebrew for Blessed--like Barach) was really wound up today after the debate last night wanting to challenge everyone to a duel. He felt really good about Joseph Biden's performance and was starting to get feisty.
It's nice to see that Domino is establishing her world view with the the World Affairs journal, specifically, that is in front of her. She looks like she has access to a vast variety of sources and must have a great appreciation for the press.
Should we get a second cat?
Our first cat, Daisy, is about 4 1/2 years old now. She's spends 1/2 of her time outdoors in a Pacific NW subburb, she's slightly skittish and solitary. But mostly, as far as I can tell, pretty happy.
We've been thinking about getting another kitten, but we don't want to ruin Daisy's current happiness... what factors should we consider in our decision, and, generally, is a second cat a bad idea?
Didn't see a single working class cat at Cats for Obama; Elitist every one.
Jesus, that brown critter looks like an overturned beer truck.
Well, Zorro sneaked up the attic hatch steps and was hiding up there pretty much the entire day. Not knowing what else to do, Monkey soon followed and sat at the top whining down at us for a while until we rescued him. The other two didn't seem to be experiencing near that level of anxiety.
Geez, Kevin, what are you feeding, or overfeeding, Domino again. Poor thing looks uncomfortably paunchy. My cats are heavy, but she really needs help! Diet time again, please!
Auden, yes, I think you should get a second cat. First, because even though your cat may not actively "play" with the newcomer, she will appreciate the company.
And, second, because there are many, many "rescue" cats who need homes.
I was shocked at how well "Alice Obama" has blended into our little family with the two established cats.
Go for it. You'll love the dynamics of two cats, and even if they fight a little, it gives them both companionship. And you'll get double the love.
Is Domino watching the Cubs lose on TV? I seem to recognize that telltale expression of ashen horror on her face that is the unmistakable concomitant of the frustrated Cub fan.
My cats aren't taking the news well at all. They keep huddling up against us for warmth. Maybe they're afraid we'll make them into outdoor cats now...
Domino most certainly has to go on a diet. Right now he looks like a Republican FAT CAT.
A fat cat that ate a fat rat? It pains me to see an obese animal.
