The Truthiest New Show on Television
THE TRUTHIEST NEW SHOW ON TELEVISION....Over at TNR, Jeffrey Rosen reviews ABC's Homeland Security USA: "Every segment inadvertently reminded us why DHS officers spend so little time protecting the homeland against violent threats: Investigations that begin by looking for terrorists come up short, so officers have no alternative but to snag people for non-violent crimes." Good to know.
Homeland Security begins with securing the borders, enforcing Immigration laws, taking on the Mexican Drug Cartels, and balancing our Trade. If you can't do that, there is only another B.S. show on T.V. that is totally meaningless!
I avoided watching Cops after I caught an episode a decade ago and I have no intention to watch this.
Though I might watch a reality show covering the journalistics exploits of Joe the plumber. Season 1: Joe covers Mid East conflict; Season 2: Joe tackles narco corruption in Ciudad Jarez; Season 3: Cancelled.
If I were the producer I'd follow the swiss belly dancer and never turn back.
The criticism is that DHS, in the course of its investigations, sometimes finds and stops non-violent criminals? So, if they stumble across a child pornography distribution ring which is scrupulously non-violent, should they just ignore it?

How true. It is estimated that as many as 30,000 illegal aliens from terrorist countries may have entered our country over the Mexican border, not to mention that we are simply inundated with Chinese spies and criminals syndicates from all over. You don't even have to make the sex tour of Asia anymore; locally there are two Asian massage parlors right by Rahm Emanuel's office on Irving Park Road. The Mafia was bad enough, but we'll never get rid of the Asian gangs. They have too much practice and support overseas.
We're totally dependent on the good will of Osama bin Laden for security, I'm afraid. He seems happy to merely say Boo now and then and get the chickens in Washington to self bankrupt.

My goodness. It almost sounds like you advocate law enforcement for rooting out criminals. How does that jibe with the previous idea that military action is required to fight terrorism?
