Quote of the Day
From Charles Johnson, founder of Little Green Footballs and onetime leader of the post-9/11 warbloggers, on why he's given up on his fellow travelers:
The main reason I can’t march along with the right wing blogosphere any more, not to put too fine a point on it, is that most of them have succumbed to Obama Derangement Syndrome. One “nontroversy” after another, followed by the outrage of the day, followed by conspiracy theory after conspiracy theory, all delivered in breathless, angry prose that’s just wearying and depressing to read.
It’s not just the economic issues either. I’ve never been on board with the anti-science, anti-Enlightenment radical religious right. Once I began making my opinions known on issues like creationism and abortion, I realized that there just wasn’t very much in common with many of the bloggers on the right. And then, when most of them decided to fall in and support a blogger like Robert Stacy McCain, who has neo-Nazi friends, has written articles for the openly white supremacist website American Renaissance, and has made numerous openly racist statements on the record ... well, I was extremely disappointed to see it, but unfortunately not surprised.
There's was never any reason for surprise, of course. 2009 = 1993 all over again.

And yet
Republicans now lead in the generic congressional ballot poll. Way to go Dems! Your cowardliness and whining are paying off -- you are losing to the worst loons in decades!
It's amusing to see LGF
It's amusing to see LGF marked as "leftist" at the various hot airs and other craptacular rightwing websites.
But let's not be too smug, there's lot of dumbassery, bullying, political correctness, echo chamber, and institutionalized discrimination over here on the left as well.
He's just *now* noticing all
He's just *now* noticing all this?

I await John Cole welcoming him to the darkside with his 40 virgins and a beer all paid for by George Soros.
Please, Drum. Johnson has
Please, Drum. Johnson has always been a liberal - save for one issue: terrorism. Other than that, he'd fit right in with the MoJo group. He's actually become quite the joke these days. He bans people for the slightest things, especially if you dare to question any of his beliefs, most of all evolution. It is his blog, but he's quite thin-skinned.
He's never found one issue with Obama - about anything - so to call him anything but a reflexive Obama fan is off the mark. Heck, I've even seen Drum have issues - even if they are slight - with Obama's policies.
That says something about CJ.
Pot :: Kettle
Hey, Charles doesn't need to feel bad about all the crazy goin' on with the radicals. He's got plenty of crazy goin' on inside his own self too.
good for him
i've been following, off and on, his objections to the nazi/mccain stuff and his role and wrtings have been entirely honorable, and considering his part of the universe, brave.
the loonies drove him out for his failure to follow the fundamentalist line, but especially for his hatred of racists and other bigots. his occasional brilliant take- downs of the anti-science behind some right wing foundation myths also seemed to enrage some folk. but outing the nazi racist and his supporters seemed to be the final straw. most wingnuts can't stand being called racists, especially in those cases when it is patently, plainly true.
Good!
The Republicans are moving in the direction of all that is corrupt and contemptible. I hope and pray that more will see the light before we all get pull down by their hateful craziness. Thanks for pointing out this significant awakening, Kevin...
Nostalgia
This just makes me feel all gooey warm. It's just like 2002, when the reasonable liberals - Josh Marshall was one, I think Kevin was another - were trying engage in reasonable debate with conservatives, particularly over Iraq.
After a couple years, they concluded the right has just gone crazy. Mr. LGF is a little slower to the game, but should be congratulated nonetheless.
GOP demographics
Old, white, and rural. Stop trying to reach across a canyon wide divide to a ever shrinking bunch of crazies! LEAD. FDR was happy to have old, white, rich opponents. He went through them to historic ideas.
Johnson was shocked --
Johnson was shocked -- SHOCKED! -- to learn that there was gambling going on at Rick's.
Political Right
The temptation is to see the extremism of the GOP as a political strategy rather than a sociological phenomenon. They literally cannot help it.
