"The Classic"

from Joan As Police Woman's The Classic

Liner notes: Joan Wasser trades existential brooding for sweet romance on this leisurely doo-wop stroll, exclaiming, "I am home in your arms and I feel like this is living." She's joined by Joseph Arthur on bass vocals and Reggie Watts doing his beatbox thing.

Behind the music: An alum of the Dambuilders and Antony and the Johnsons (and partner of the late Jeff Buckley), Wasser has worked with everyone from Lou Reed and Rufus Wainwright to Sheryl Crow and Elton John.

Check it out if you like: Intense artists like Fiona Apple, John Cale, and Nick Cave.
