Palin Knows How To Debate
Sarah Palin's Katie Couric interviews have made her look like a goofball, but maybe that was the idea. Noodling around with the media certainly has depressed expectations for her performance tomorrow night in the debate with Joe Biden, but perhaps the campaign was hoping to downplay the fact that the former TV sportscaster, according to the Wall Street Journal, is a damn good debater. During the Alaska gubernatorial debates in 2006, Palin trounced her opponents with her folksy nature, which trumped her utter lack of specific policy knowledge. The Journal says:
"her métier was projecting winsomeness -- making a virtue of not knowing as much about the minutiae of state government because, for most of her adulthood, she was immersed in small-town life and raising a family. The candidates she squared off against, and the reporters who posed questions in several debates, recall that she related high gas prices to the difficulties her family had buying a car. She explained that she was in tune with environmentalists because she named a daughter, Bristol, for Alaska's Bristol Bay. She demonstrated her affinity for Native American culture by citing the teachings of her husband's Yu'pik Eskimo grandparent. "

Debating while running for governor is a far cry from debating national and international issues. The folksy gosh-gee persona won't win it on that stage. She is going to have to show substance and knowledge; some folks were fooled by Bush's folksy, I'm just a cowboy presence - people hopefully have smartened up!
If doing good in a debate means not saying a damn thing, then she could be the greatest debater in history!
And saying that you are the best debater in Alaska is truly being a big fish in a small pond.
dude, Biden is a real shit kicker and a nixon throwback. even if he's corrupt as the average alaskan housewife im sure hes well prepared to lay the useless smacks down upon the reigning queen of sheepish speechlessness. and america, which is not prepared to see either a)the true nature of its socialist control based greedy leadership or b)what the world looks like without their linear thinking guiding each decision, will prolly love hearing a woman who I guess is talking about taking out the throw away trash and gettng the kids to adult thinking practice because thats just a little easier than tryin to wrap the head around the fact that the land of the free is a place where you can not own a home unless you own ten. shit, who cares. this is day three of the apocolypse. the logic train has left the station. somebody needs to put a "keep washington weird" sticker on air force one.
Palin has such a affinity for Native Americans she is trying to take away Native rights, land, and sovereignty in Alaska. Alaskan Natives DO NOT support her, and Native leaders across the country urge all indigenious peoples to research her policies prior to making a decision about the elections.
What formidable? She said nothing at all.
It reminds me of watching Big Trouble in Little China, listening to Kurt Russell ramble on about the Pork Chop Express. There is a difference between talking a lot and saying anything of real substance.
I hope the American people are not so easily fooled.
Me too. I hope the American public is not so easily fooled into thinking she can't do it, or that Biden is a genius.
Veep debates mean very little.
Its interesting that people still throw that word "Socialism" around like they know what it means.
