Beck Watch: Will the White House Hit Back?
Now that Jackass-gate is dying down, will the administration respond to Glenn Beck, who has been picking staffers off the outskirts of Obama-ville? And if so, how? Insiders tell the Washington Post that the White House is trying to avoid a direct confrontation with "a vocal minority," hoping instead to do the adult thing and take the high road. (Though the president has reportedly been "rolling his eyes in disbelief" at the daily flood of kookiness coming from Beck and his cohorts.) "You don't stomp a story out. You ride the wave and try to steer it to safe water," says an Obama aide about the hands-off approach. We'll see how that plays out.
And now, the latest list of who's still advertising on Beck's program:
The National Republican Trust PAC
News Corp. (The Wall Street Journal)
Merit Financial
Superior Gold Group
Loan Modification Help Line 800-917-8549
Wholesale Direct Metals
Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. (The Informant)
LifeLock
Clarity Media Group (The Weekly Standard)
Citrix (GoToMeeting)
Scarguard
Publisher’s Clearing House
Imperial Structured Settlements
Schiff Nutrition International, Inc. (Move Free Advanced)

Another Beck advertiser pulls out!

I started contacting Beck advertisers from the list above. I got a quick response back from Eggland's Best eggs, basically a form letter saying "Eggland’s Best buys airtime on various networks and shows to reach all audiences. We do not support or endorse any TV show. Eggland’s Best advertises to a wide viewing audience during varied timeslots on numerous networks".
THEN, 3 hours later I get another email from their Consumer Services Specialist saying "Pending further review Egglands Best has suspended TV advertising on the Glen Beck Show". Yes!
Bravo Citizen Journalist!

So you support activism, right?
It seems that you are recognizing and supporting someone that can make things happen, stir things up, rankle a few feathers, get under someone's skin, go against authority, make strong arguments, point and counter point and come out with a small victory. Free speech and all that. A real activist - one person against the establishment.
If this is what you admire, then Glen Beck should be your hero! How is it that one person draws so much attention for being an activist? Isn't that what "progressives" want? Hit the streets, yell, pound drums, force the issue?
Or is it really just politics and your personal prejudices - you love it when your people are activists but hate it when people with opposing views are activists?
Do I smell double standard here? A touch of hypocrisy, maybe. Jealousy perhaps that 1 million people don't listen to your views each day.
Good questions for a little introspection, eh?

Yes, but too bad Beck has all those bad, misanthropic, divisive traits that prevent recognition and support. Shall we list those traits or just let it go at that?
Best,
D
You just proved my point...
Beck to you has "bad, misanthropic, divisive traits..." only because you do not share or support his views. His techniques and ability to motivate others is exactly the same approach as other well known "community organizers." You already endorse the practices - you just don't agree with his position.
Left wing elected officials love this type of activist behavior when it suits them. When it doesen't - people are labeled as "thugs" and "scary" and asked to "tone down the rhetoric." How hypocritical.
Supporting activism doesn't mean you support everything
Sonja, I think you are a little unclear on the concept. Supporting activism doesn't mean you support everyone and everything under the sun. I suppose you could say the Ku Klux Klan was activist, got under someone skin, stirred things up, and went against authority. There are many "activists" who have supported all kinds of things, from killing women's health doctors who perform legal abortions, to illegally purging black voters from voter rolls in Florida. Does that mean we are to blindly support anyone or any group that is "activist" just because they're "making things happen", no matter what those things are? Newsflash: we support the causes we believe in, and fight the things we think are wrong. That is the criteria, not some wacky concept like "support anything activist no matter what it is".
