The Inhofe Climate Skeptic Roadshow
As world leaders gathered in New York this week for a major United Nations summit on climate change, back in Washington, leading Senate global warming skeptic James Inhofe (R-Okla.) has been hard at work lining up a climate "truth squad" to travel to treaty negotiations in Copenhagen this December.
Inhofe told the National Review Online that his squad (he has not yet named any participants) will make it clear to world leaders that although the House passed the Waxman-Markey bill and the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will probably approve a bill as well, the United States Congress isn't going to pass climate legislation anytime soon—no way, no how. The senator, famous for his claim that global warming is the "greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people," took a similar group of skeptics to climate change negotiations in Milan, Italy in 2003. "I was the outcast at that time," Inhofe told NRO. "Now, I want to make sure that those attending the Copenhagen conference know what is really happening in the United States Senate."
And according to Inhofe, what's really happening is nothing at all. "There may be enough votes to get a bill out of EPW," said Inhofe, referring to the Environment and Public Works committee headed by Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), which he chaired until the 2006 Democratic take-over. "[B]ut there is far from enough support in the Senate. The Democrats don’t have the votes. There are too many newly-elected Democrats in the Senate who don’t want to go home and tell voters that they just voted for the largest tax increase in American history."
Apparently President Barack Obama's speech to the UN on Tuesday only spurred on Inhofe's desire to send a truth squad, if only because the address didn't include enough specifics (which, by the way, is also bugging environmentalists).
"I don’t know what he’s going to do," said Inhofe. "It’s clear that he doesn’t know what he’s going to do, either."

So far the track record of
So far the track record of predicting what the climate will do is pretty dismal. The next climate prediction that matches reality will be the first. (Check the dire predictions of yesteryear, it is illuminating) To say that the last few years of cooling are not part of a long term trend certainly doesn't prove that warming will roar back right after this stasis/cooling period. Those who believe that Capitalist consumption is a cancer on the planet are just as dogmatic as the extremists that believe we can't harm the planet. I don't want major legislation built on someone's belief system, I want it to be pragmatic, and uninfluenced by special interests. Absent that, no law is better than a bad law. (See: ethanol subsidies and deforestation, see also Cap and Trade rent seeking)
The track record of legislative attempts to re-work our energy sector is mixed, at best.
Inhofe and those who agree with him have good reason not to believe in Man Caused Global Warming.
Do we have a deep seated need to believe that man is ruining the planet?
Too many people invested in Human Induced Climate Change
The two biggest growth industires are Fed Gov't jobs and ... being an activist or academician (and I use that term loosely) that benefit from people's fears.
The science of climate change is relatively new... and the rules of science must govern. Too much of what I have read falls into another category: find something that supports my theory. Real Science seeks the truth, even if what is found contradicts one's previously stated position. It takes a brave person to change their position.
Check this out only if you have an open mind.

Of course, what would all the "carbon offset" businesses do, like carbonfund.org, who has grown from a husband/wife start-up in a bedroom six years ago to a multi-million dollar "non-profit"? (see their Form 990 history)
What would all those research grant receipients do if all of a suddent there was no problem to try and validate?
Sure glaciers are retreating... but not because the average world air temp increased 0.3 degrees F. Come on... what's the difference if the air temps are 20F or 20.3F? That's still below freezing.
Glaciers retreat because the amount of snowfall in the accumulation zone doesn't keep up with the ice pushed out the other end...or ablation.
This is another example of people using a real physical phenonomen to "prove" their unrelated theory. hmmm....There's been an increase in CSI and Law and Order spinoffs the last 20 years. That must be the source of global warming and glacier retreat, eh?
Oklahoma and Australia under global warming
During the past year+, Evil Inhofe’s Oklahoma suffered predicted wildfires, flooding, tornadoes, crushing blizzards, and earthquakes. Since Inhofe, Pell, and LABI didn’t go to Mars, Mars is coming to them. ”Dust storm in Australia turns Sydney into Mars” (By Pete Spotts; features.csmonitor.com, 9/23/09). Including a tornado, “A DUST storm that has blanketed Sydney and parts of New South Wales is the worst in 70 years, if not the history of the state. The Bureau of Meterology said the storm, which has now hit Brisbane, was an "extremely rare event". ... scenes likened to "armageddon", with limited visibility and orange skies. ... Hail stones reportedly as big as cricket balls hit the town of Crookwell near Goulburn, damaging windows and tiles. Elsewhere, Victoria experienced two small earthquakes ... Parts of the state also received heavy rainfalls yesterday, triggering flash flood warnings” (“Dust storm 'may be worst in history'”; By staff writers and wires; news.com.au. 9/23/09). “Criticised climate-change prophets of doom ... global warming ... scare-mongering ... the Australian Cardinal George Pell, the Archbishop of Sydney ... noted that the atmospheric temperature of Mars had risen by 0.5 degrees celsius. "The industrial-military complex up on Mars can't be blamed for that," he said in a criticism of Australian scientists “ (“The Pope condemns the climate change prophets”; By SIMON CALDWELL; dailymail.co.uk, 12/11/07). “RUSH ... Drudge ... "Mr. Gore ... how can you continue to claim global warming on the earth is primarily caused by mankind when other planets -- Mars, Jupiter, and Pluto -- with no confirmed life forms and certainly no manmade industrial greenhouse gas emissions are also showing signs of global warming? ..." “ (“The Global Warming Stack”; the old, ugly and evil Rush “LABI” Limbaugh, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity - extremist Republican and Christian outlets and aka Dr. "Jeff ‘Gannon’ Christie"; rushlimbaugh.com, 3/19/07).
Global warming is a fact
Global warming is a fact
Better check your facts...
In case you did not take the time to click on the link I referenced above... here is a direct quote. Funny...this didn't make the front page of MotherJones...far be it from MotherJones to promote a contrary thought.
"In a speech last week at the U.N.'s World Climate Conference in Geneva, Professor Mojib Latif of Germany's Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences at Kiel University, one of the world's foremost climate modelers and a lead author for the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change acknowledged that the Earth has been cooling and is likely to continue that trend for the next couple of decades. Al Gore, call your office.
Latif has been looking into the influence of cyclical changes to ocean currents and temperatures in the Atlantic, a feature known as the North American Oscillation. When he factored these natural fluctuations into his global climate model, Professor Latif found the results brought the allegedly endless rise in global temperatures to a screeching halt.
Latif conceded the planet has not warmed for nearly a decade and that we are likely entering "one or even two decades during which temperatures cool." Latif still believes in a warming trend and thinks it will resume. But he at least acknowledges the empirical evidence of cooling, that there are factors at work here other than your SUV, and that doom will not occur the day after tomorrow."
Man...the head dude for the IPCC, and their chief climate modeler made a mistake. Then he owns up to it and sees that warming has NOT occurred. Oh crap. What do we do now?
Like I said... how come we never saw his speech quoted in MJ or any other liberal / progressive / left wing / world carbon footprint revolutionary publication?
As an unhappy Oklahoma
As an unhappy Oklahoma democrat I also wonder: is Jimmy-boy is paying his own way to Copenhagen? Probably going to charge it to taxpayers as he did on all his "Jesus" visits to Africa.
