Edwards Gets Headlines, While Romney Gets A Pass

Regardless of how you feel about John Edwards' hiring of two "controversial" bloggers, his scolding of them, and their eventual resignation, the fact is that while the Edwards debacle got all kinds of media attention, a similar disaster, brewing among Republicans, got none. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romeny, identified in this blog as a pandering wonder, has problems of his own.

Romney announced his candidacy for president of the United States at the Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, an act that did not go over well with the National Jewish Democratic Council. Henry Ford was, of course, a renowned anti-Semite. Said a spokesman for the NJDC: "Romney has been traveling the country talking about inclusiveness and understanding of people from all walks of life. Yet he chooses to kick (off) his presidential campaign on the former estate of a well-known and outspoken anti-Semite and xenophobe."

According to Media Matters for America, the Romney/Ford issue was reported by the New York Times, but not by the Washington Post CNN or Fox News, all of whom made a big deal of the Edwards campaign problem.

That is because Edwards was attacked and Romney was not. This has little to do with either candidate. Edwards was attacked because Bill Donahue of the Catholic League is a moron. The Catholic League should have gotten rid of this guy long ago. This is not his first gaff.

The ADL however is far more savvy and can tell the difference between Romney honoring American mass production and support of anti-sematism. Thye are represented here in Palm beach by intelligent spokesmen like Abe Foxman and Art Titlebaum.

Now if you want to debate the pros and cons of industrial mass production I am with you. I think William Blake was right when he called them Dark Satanic Mills. I agree with Al Gore; the internal combustion engine must be banned.

Henry Fords anti-sematism is no more reason not to buy a Ford than the holocost is a reason not to buy a Mercedes.

Interesting that Romney would make such a choice since the one of the temple covenents of the LDS Church is to baptize the dead into the Mormon church. There were issues of the LDS church baptising the Jewish holocost victims into the church. This produce much consternation within the world Jewish Community. Perhaps this is a freudian political slip by "Mitt".

Don't be silly. Don't buy a FORD if you are serious. While you are at it, no German cars either. You remind be of my mother(took me 20 years of therapy to get rid of the guilt). But seriously, Edwards is a contender. Romney doesn't have a prayer and who cares about the GOP primary?

...at some point we need to put to bed the practice of tarring modern political discourse and activists with the personal politics of Henry Ford. I would hope that no one could possibly believe, for all his failings as a future steward of our nation, that Romney is a nazi-sympathizing antisemitic fascist. Seriously. Isn’t that the association that NJDC is trying to churn up in the minds and hearts of Jewish voters? It’s just not plausible.

Please let us deal only with the issues. The NJDC gives the appearance to some as being bigots, and anti-Christian. If Gentiles would make similar associations about Jews(e.g. Jewish domination of Hollywood) this would be called anti-Semitic by this group. It is like the little shephard boy crying wolf all the time, until nobody listens.

Better check you hats at the Temple door boys and girls. The LDS church would love to have a leader in the white house. Believe me, I've been there. The first book of morman spoke against all people of color and truth be told they still believe it. Not only that but allowed to change laws they would still practice Poligamy too. It is still taught today in the church. Should this mean anything in politics. Well... it does to me. When they think they can baptize your family members into there church after death, change the course of history by statistics of millions of people who never attended the LDS church. What else could they change. I left the morman church because of such beliefs and because they are so misleading in their views of Christ and God. Do you know they believe they will become Gods themselves if they live a worthy life. This is really scary stuff. Don't be foolish Americans. How far would a man like this go. Look at the History of the Morman Church. Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, both had wives to many to count and the woman should be submissive. Don't think that is not still true today. Thank about your rights ladies. I feel sorry for the people who are so uninformed or afraid to make this an issue. This should be a real issue.

Some nonsense never goes out of style.

For instance:
I'm old enough to remember people saying, with great sincerity and conviction "You know, if they elect John Kennedy the Pope will be the one REALLY running the country! Kennedy won't make a move without the Pope's blessing! Why.., I bet he'll give the Pope an office adjoining the Oval one.."

It was Bullshit in 1960 when they claimed electing Kennedy would mean creating a theocracy controlled by a minority church, and it's STILL Bullshit in 2007.
HEL-LO~!?!? Does anyone remember that there's a CONGRESS? Does anyone believe that the Congress is required to adopt the religion of the President? And if not, Exactly HOW does the President make the precepts of HIS religion Binding on the masses?
Someone?
Anyone?
Bueller?

Having said that, rest assured that I WON'T be voting for Romney.
That decision is based not on his religion, but on the fact that he's just another Bigger Government hack, with nothing but "more of the same" to offer.

I wouldn't vote for a Jew. You know that Talmud and stuff and all the other things. Some people may get offended at this statement, but it is okay to dump on another religion and people that go by the name Mormon. What hypocrisy. Shame on all you bigots.

@James
I can't believe you worry about offending anyone with a statement like this:
"I wouldn't vote for a Jew. You know that Talmud and stuff and all the other things."

It probably only elicits pathos or giggles: "Awww, the poor bugger can barely put a couple of words together,"
or, "Hilarious! That guy just started a comment with 'I wouldn't vote for a Jew.' and ended it with 'Shame on all you bigots!' God, the Internet is full of some bat-sh*t crazy trolls."

Posted by: Mueller on 08/27/07 at 8:38 PM

Herr Mueller, you prove my point. You did not say anything about the bigotry of hating Mormons because you talk like too many Jews who hate Mormons. But that is okay in our society, but the other way around, oh my, that is not okay. Hypocrites.
