One Down... Edwards Loses Liberal Blogger
John Edwards has accepted the resignation of liberal blogger, Amanda Marcotte, central player, along with Melissa McEwan of Shakespeare's Sister, in the netroots drama surrounding the former senator's campaign. Writing on her blog today, Marcotte criticizes Catholic League president, Bill Donohue, for driving her out of the campaign.
She writes:
"If I can’t do the job I was hired to do because Bill Donohue doesn’t have anything better to do with his time than harass me, then I won’t do it."
She continues:
[Bill Donohue is a] right wing lackey whose entire job is to create non-controversies in order to derail liberal politics.
Marcotte is fuming and rightfully so. And, don't get me wrong, I completely agree with the right wing lackey comment and that clearly Donohue has nothing better to do with his time, but hey, what about Edwards? Marcotte makes no mention of how his campaign handled the situation (poorly if you ask me). Maybe criticism of the former senator will follow or maybe the blog-girl signed on to the campaign because she truly believes in the guy and isn't interested in a few parting jabs. I say jab away, Amanda. Not only did Edwards not stand up for his liberal outreach team, he publicly condemned their blogging and made them grovel for an apology from right-wing fanatics.

The blogger was right to resign. Edwards is not a bigot. The blogger, like all bloggers, need to be careful what they write. Hateful, offensive, racist, and bigoted words should not be used. Bloggers need to be responsible. I am not calling for PC censorship, only responsibility.

Yeah, I don't think it helps guys like Edwards reach out to normal folks by having extreme, religeous hating, tofu eating liberal trash writing blogs. That is the problem. Democrats need to shake the extreme lefty image. I am not a religious person but I am tolerant of most religions, even though Islam and Christianity suck pretty hard. If the dems are to win in 08', I think they need to come off as more moderate. The funny thing about Edwards ( I did vote for Kerry / Edwards ) is that he is stilling pulling the "my dad was a poor mill worker" crap when he is living in a ridiculous 48,000 square foot mansion. I don't see how that helps his image- seems a little excessive don't you think?

what the hell are you smoking? if they go any further right, there will truly only be one party in usa.
Why didn't the Edwards campaign throw some of Donohue's antisemitic words back at him? This is a fn joke.

Sorry Ken- I don't think Cindy Sheehan should be the mouthpiece of the Democratic party- it looks bad when she is sucking the d*ck of Hugo Chavez. I'm just saying it doesn't help Dems appeal to more voters by coming off extreme. I'm not saying I completely disagree with some of the lefty principles- I just don't think the most extreme of the extreme should be the poster childs/ bloggers for the Dems. Furthermore, Edwards doesn't have much of a chance.

I agree that the moderate argument is becoming ridiculous at this point. We've gone so far right that moderate may be closer to fascism than it is to the middle of the road between the two main parties, and for that matter, the fact that there are only two parties should show us how unwilling we are to entertain ideas other than the most common, PC, and non-upsetting ones out there.
This ties in closely to religion in that to cause the slightest upset to people who have some kind of religion makes people run around whining like a bunch of babies and raving about how nobody should dare to "attack" their religion. I must also revisit fascism here to point to the fact that those who say that others should be kept quiet and not be allowed to talk about negative aspects of religion, especially when it is connected to politics, are preaching a fascist agenda of control that has done more than enough damage to this country already.

We need to be sensitive to peoples religion and not to be a bigot and say hurtful things. I know that some members of Judaism have suffered from bigots that say unkind things about my religion and allege that we have undue influence with the Bush administration in regards to the support of Israel. This is nothing but anti-Semitism.

Hannah - I must take polite exception to your statement "we need to be...".
I believe that very phrase is indicative of a problem we have as a society in communicating with one another. IOW, we don't "need" to do squat. What we *should* do, on the other hand, is more to the point. We *should* be sensitive to peoples' religious beliefs. We *should* try to avoid bigotry in our thoughts and our deeds. These are laudable goals and deserving of our efforts, just as we *should* try to love one another. But we live in a free society and we should also be mindful that others may not always agree with what we *think* is necessary.
My point? I don't think it works to tell people what they *need* to do unless they are asking for help. I'd suggest that we instead teach, inform, and even preach, but allow people to make their own decisions about what they *need* to do.
I hope you don't think I am picking on you. I don't mean to. It is my belief that we often inadvertently undercut the power of our own messages when we use words that obligate others to change rather than invite them to change. And I want your message, which I believe is a laudable one, to be heard and respected.

A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes.
Your beliefs become your thoughts. Your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions. Your actions become your habits. Your habits become your values. Your values become your destiny.

As a catholic the bloggers went over the top and sullied their position by their extreme statements. Having said that I can ignore them considering what has happened to america since Pope John Paul II aligned the catholic church with the republican party when reagan became prez, thus giving our country Reagan, Bush41 and Bush43, all of whom have done serious damage to our country, our political system and our democratic values and institutions directly resulting in war, killing, and a total pro-death agenda for oil profits. How many more will die because of what the catholic church has done. How many died because of what the catholic church did during WWII when they sided with and endorsed Hitler and the Nazi Party. I abhor what the previous and present popes have done and continue to do, it's an abomination. Feeble, few and far between laments by the popes about war and torture will do nothing to stop what they have unleashed upon the world, namely, the republican party, the party which will do anything for greed for maoney, political power and oil profits. And Donoghue is equally as bad as the catholic republican party for the damage they are doing to our country, our troops, the Iraqi people all of which is leading directly to the end of our democracy/Republic as we are rapidly losing our democartic values and democratic institutions like our cherished Constitution. If this continues much longer america will either be destroyed due to lack of diplomacy and ever expanding war/wars. Or america will become nothing more than another Fundamentalist country, as in "A Totalitarian Republican Fundamentalist Theocracy" and fundamentalism of any kind is death to human life, pro-death not in any way pro-life. Why the catholic church and people like Donoghue promote this pro-death agenda for america and the world is beyond me but it is an abomination unto God and Man/Woman.
Pray for Peace and Pray for the end of catholic republican hegemony. Evangelism should be outlawed, it will soon be the death of american democracy.
