Romney: I'll Make Up Anything if Pat Robertson Approves
Any francophiles out there that want to fact-check Mitt Romney?
"In France, for instance, I'm told that marriage is now frequently contracted in seven-year terms where either party may move on when their term is up. How shallow and how different from the Europe of the past."
Yup, Mitt Romney is courting the religious right (he made the statement at a graduation speech at Regent University, the college founded by Pat Robertson) the easiest way Republicans know how: bashing the French. Oh, and porn and violence:
"Pornography and violence poison our music and movies and TV and video games. The Virginia Tech shooter, like the Columbine shooters before him, had drunk from this cesspool."
Good heavens, can you imagine if Mitt Romney ever saw violent porn starring unmarried French people? His head would explode. But even a headless Mitt Romney would kowtow to the leaders of the religious right. You can't win in the GOP without doing so:
It was Romney's second appearance at Regent University in the past four months. His visits underscore the competition for support from top Christian conservative leaders such as Robertson, whose television programs have millions of viewers. Romney, along with several other GOP hopefuls, attended a convention of religious broadcasters in February. Former New York mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani will appear at Regent next month.

Looks like he has Pat's approval(Evangelical) so he has a better chance. Mitt is a coalition builder, just like any candidate. He looks better than Rudy and the 70 year old senator, so it looks like he will get it.
so now, the french have elected a CONSERVATIVE. hooboy. this could get interesting. might not be able to bash them anymore...

Conservative evangelicals will never whole-heartedly endorse a mormon. They may have to because he might end up being the lesser of two evils. They may smile and shake his hand, but they will talk bad about him behind his back. But these leaders have no conscience anyway, they are dark as night on the inside. It's pointless anyway, a Dem will be the next prez. No question.

Conservative evangelicals will come out and support the Mormon because they have a reputation of being against gay(Dragon Yang syndrome) marriage. The other candidates are not against Dragon Yang syndrome.

Lucy Lu...there is one problem to your analysis...Rommney helped make GM legal in his state. Rommney doesn't have much wiggle room on that issue.

"Romney backs new effort to prohibit gay marriages
Proposal for ballot excludes civil unions" so states the Boston Globe in 2005. He has a long record of being against the Dragon Yang syndrone. GLAD knows about his positions.

Lucy,
That is now, but what about when he was for it. He's a classic "flip flopper," if the con evangelicals back him, they are throwing away their vote. He can't beat any of the top Dem candidates. Period.

Polls show that Romney can beat the old lady(the war monger) Clinton. Just get use to it, he will be our new president. He doesn't flip any more than any other politician. It is where he is today. A smart person learns and changes. Only a stubborn fool will not change.

I can't remember which political blog it was, but someone looked around pretty hard on the Intertubes and all they could find on this 7-year marriage contract meme was some obscure French play, not French legal code. Considering how vilified the French are in conservative circles, Mittsy isn't well-served in being familiar with obscure Frenchicana... ;-)

Well, Daily Kos has an entry on the 7-year-contract thingy. I'm not sure which account is more accurate (the one I read elsewhere or this one) but I know which one looks worse for Mittsy.
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/5/7/215953/4128
Here's the juicy bit, and it's a doozy:
"Via The Plank, where they note that the whole seven-year-contract with option to renew is, in fact, a plot point in a novel by fellow Mormon Orson Scott Card.*
*UPDATE: Card's book with the seven-year marriage contracts? It's called "The Memory of Earth," and it is a fictionalization of the Book of Mormon set in outer space."
*whistles* Mittsy's gonna have a fittsy when he figures out just how dumb he just made himself look.

Sorry, but Pat endorsed Ron Paul not Mitt. Mit is a coalition bulder, i.e. liar, just like all of the politicians in the past. Mitt is the same old politican, a greasy salesman trying to con the American public.

"That's good stuff. Romney has consistently talked about hope and optimism. He did it during the GOP debate and he did it again Saturday at Regent. It may be a speech that is remembered for a long time. " Per CBN web site. No fine remarks could be found about Ron Paul on Pat's web site.

Mitt should be happy with the victory of Nicolas Sarkozy. Too bad that Ms. Clinton is no Segolene Royal. Ms. Royal is in good shape and very attractive in mind and appearance as well as articulate, everything that Ms. Clinton is not. Ms. Royal could have won in America, but unfortunately, Ms. Clinton will not win.

I'm going to put you into a little hand-combed cotton number today, . Simple, but elegant, with slits at the sides that subtly reflect your worldly sophistication and sexual elan. We're goingto let this tough, no-nonsense Little Black Dress do all the talking, , by keeping the accessories to a minimum. We'll go with the pressed-steel auto-marque earrings and understated patent pumps by Yanni. You'll carry a kicky little purse made from a humanely-harvested box-turtle's shell on a quietly assertive strap of particolored faux Sillystring.
Makeup will be minimalist, in keeping with our stealth theme... just a little ebony lipstick and a touch of purple eye shadow. Nails? Short and clean, (Think B!lly Mays or that Broom Hunk) with a classic salesman's hard-shine buff.
Of course you are dying to ask, "But which wig shall I wear?"
Well, , I want you to be daring! Be strong! Be aggressively, phallically understated in an overstated way! I want you to join my FASHION TERRORISTS!
What am I saying? Simple! SHAVE THAT HEAD, ! I'm talking a real hot lather, steaming towel, straight RAZOR SHAVE here, !! Then, hot-wax with natural tropical carnauba and buff to a brilliant shine. We'll round out your look with gold-leaf cladding for your remaining front tooth and a cruel little EYE PATCH!!!!!!!! You'll knock 'em dead, !
I expect an answer from you about those stunning uniforms, jymmy! All of the Nazi regalia was obviously conceived and coordinated by a GENIUS!
So MASTERFUL!! Sublimely understated, yet commandingly eye-catching in a wholesome, yet aggressively MASCULINE way! Yes, the colour and line of the young men's clothing was simply superb, and the accessories were simply perfection!
Oh! That early Fall of 1937...the summer leaves just beginning to change... the beautiful old city, the music, the splendid weather, the stirring pageantry of rank upon rank of magnificent men and powerful, potent machines, the tympanic beat of a hundred thousand gleaming leather boots, and over it all, arm raised in rigid salute, THE FURHER HIMSELF!!!

interesting facts both for French marriage laws and domestic partnerships [gay inclusive].
I saw nothing about cancellation in the marriage laws, but there is provision for cancellation in the domestic partnership agreement.

Also remember that Mitt Romney has never admitted to "wrongdoing" and apologized for his pro gay activities. That seems to be the modus operandi for pols today. I can only think of a handful off the top of my head. George Wallace jumps to the front. In 1982 he recanted his racist past and won the governorship of Alabama - beating a Wallace wannabe [from his dark past]. A lesser example is Janet Reno, the first woman attorney general trying to make a name for herself, killing many of Koresh's followers - including children - to complete a misguided Bush operation. She took full credit for the unnecessary carnage caused by her attempt at grandstanding - instead of a quiet arrest and trial.
Of course, Janet Reno's political career is largely toast. She is NOT a team player. Team players always confirm the media generated "conventional wisdom".

Mitt has grown. He doesn't have to "apologize" for any past positions because his changed actions speak louder than an "apologize". On to the White House. Get use to it.
