Note to Mel: People Love Bill
What's that old adage about how generals are always fighting the last war?
Republicans have apparently based their presidential fundraising strategy almost entirely on fanning fears of another Clinton presidency. The Washington Post reports that the Republican National Committee has been sending out fundraising appeals to supporters with a photo of Bill and Hillary stamped "4 More Years?"
Apparently chairman Mel Martinez and the RNC brain-trust missed the memo noting that thanks to Bush, the Clinton years look pretty darn good today, what with the budget surplus, peace, grownups at FEMA and all. Is it any wonder Republicans haven't been inspired by these appeals to dig deep?

i hope you aren't laboring under the illusion that Democratic fund raising is using anything other than 'fear of Republicans' as it's main whip?
if you think they are, you need to visit the DCCC.org page and see for yourself
that's all we've had from the two big parties for the last 30 years, minimum
neither one could run on it's own record and raise shit in the way of contributions, so they both play on fear of the other group
what has either one got to brag about?

Well noted, Jet.
I was raised Republican, gravitated left in my thinking and have voted Dem for quite a while now. Still, it's hard to feel there is any safe harbor politically in this country. Neither party CAN boast about how well they serve the people.

The line works perfectly for the Republicans. Hillary is the weakest Democrat in the general election and will rally the Republican base. Texas Republicans will vote for Guliani or Romney rather than Hillary, but might vote for Obama or Richardson or Edwards.

yea, keep telling yourself that, andrew. that's been the prediction since day one, but hillary keeps getting stronger and piling on the cash. and, if this blog entry is correct, hillary isn't the polarizing bogeyman (bogeyperson?) everybody thought she'd be. do you really imagine conservatives would ever, ever vote for edwards? no way.
