Follow Up On Kristol — Man, Is He Wrong a Lot

To follow up on my post from yesterday re: Kristol's hiring at the NYT, here's a post from Glenn Greenwald's old site listing all the different times Kristol has been flat wrong about something. A sampling:

"There's been a certain amount of pop sociology in America ... that the Shia can't get along with the Sunni and the Shia in Iraq just want to establish some kind of Islamic fundamentalist regime. There's almost no evidence of that at all. Iraq's always been very secular." [April 4, 2003]
Just four weeks after the Iraqi election of January 30, 2005, it seems increasingly likely that that date will turn out to have been a genuine turning point. The fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989, ended an era. September 11, 2001, ended an interregnum. In the new era in which we now live, 1/30/05 could be a key moment--perhaps the key moment so far--in vindicating the Bush Doctrine as the right response to 9/11. And now there is the prospect of further and accelerating progress. [March 7, 2005]
Last week the Bush Administration's second-term bear market bottomed out. [November 7, 2005]

If pundits were judged on how often the they are correct or incorrect, Bill Kristol would be the worst pundit in the country. He'd be out of a job. But he's not. Somehow, there are other criteria used in judging pundits—criteria clung too so strongly that no degree of wrongness can invalidate them.

This Kristol business made me reread Jay Nordlinger's National Review essay on "Going Timesless."

In particular this gem Nordlinger dug up:

The radical journalist George Seldes, in one of his books, had a chapter called “How to Read the Editorial Pages.” It consisted of one word: “Don’t.”

The neocons have a chokehold on the media. Corporatism at its finest.

Why does NO one identify Bill Kristol as the founder of PNAC? He and his dangerous war mongers have directed the foreign policy of this nation for decades, but never so successfully as with their puppet in this WH.

The internet is clobbering the kooky neo-kooks and their always wrong bloviating. You would think the MSM would catch on, but they dont, they keep hiring the shills.

I haven't read a thing Kristol has written in years, nor will I.

From the beginning, neoconservatism has eschewed facts, science, logic, and reason. Indeed, the application of any item on the list would poison the movement. It is an astonishingly intellectually unserious approach to politics in this regard and it is this fact which proves conclusively that it is evil by nature. No systematic regimen which is predicated deliberately upon lies can claim a higher ground o even pretend to good intentions. It simply defies logic. And those who still believe in logic will attest to this. But if you disagree, then look at the reality of all the pain and suffering and damage these people have caused and continue to cause, all over the world. Seldom does one get to witness such public criminality executed with an air of comparable shamelessness. Something is very wrong with these people. Perhaps a clue as to what it is lies in their respective backgrounds and training. I wonder what it could be.

He was wrong on Iraq and the Sunni/Shia
to say the least. I have concluded the Iraq was never really secular. The vigorous religious passions were simply in the closet by virtue of Sadam's hard line.

I used to really like Kristol, thought he seemed very knowledgeable and level headed -- but over recent years, I've really begun to wonder what he's up to and why, for he is always wrong about everything. At least a few dozen times in just the last few years I've heard him state or write something and wondered, "Will he be right this time?" and the answer always turned out to be a resounding no. In the last year, I have still been reading him -- whatever he says, I assume the opposite is true. That has worked 100% of the time, so far. Which he'd make a Superbowl prediction -- I'd find a bookie.

No Saddam - al Qaeda link?

BS, these guys have been caught working together since 2002 and have admitted it. Here are the names of hundreds of Baathists caught with al Qaeda
http://regimeofterror.com/archives/2007/07/hundreds_of_loyalists_and_bene/

I called the intelligence committees and asked them how they justify this information with their new report and was told they didn't even know about any of this. These people report only what they are told and too much information is being overclassified. Stop being so antiwar, anti-Bush that you believe anything that undermines the war and think for yourselves.

Xisthius,
No wonder you hate Kristol. You only write what you HEAR about him instead of actually reading what he says...and you have the nerve to talk about others not using reason and logic?

Give me a break.

Kristol is a Zionist, a mouth piece for those that persecute third world people. Say no to Apartheid, no to racism.

A person who knows, but does not care about the difference between right and wrong is exactly equivalent to a person who can not tell the difference. Crminal or insane? It does not matter. Same psychotic result.

Markie,

no one is saying that bathist are not NOW working with al qaeda-iraq. They are saying they were not working together
BEFORE 2002. The evidence you quote is all post invasion. You cannot logically use what happened after the invasion as a reason for the invasion. That is like me punching you and when you punch back i then say i was justified because you punched me. In other words it is just plain stupid.

Mark E: Al Qaeda In Iraq did not exist until well after the invasion had turned the Iraqi people against their "liberators."

There is a website for everything. You need to be more critical than that, or you cannot properly refer to the activity as "thinking."

The fact that many ex-Baathists are now working with A-QiI has NOTHING to do with Saddam, as your link claims it does. The site features a photo of Saddam at the top, but he himself was pretty much THE reason A-Q couldn't get a foothold in Iraq -- until America opened up that frontier for them to exploit.

Get critical, or we'll quit listening to you, much less responding.
