China Outlaws Pringles and Fanta

China has banned the import of several food products citing poison and bugs as contaminants. The list includes Coca-Cola's berry-flavored Fanta soda, which apparently contains levels of benzoic acid dangerous to the liver and kidneys (so I guess stick with the bright orange stuff if you want to be kind to your kidneys). Also listed are two varieties of Proctor & Gamble’s Pringles, banned for carcinogens, and one Nestle's coffee flavor found to be infested with beetles. All in all, China's quality control found 593 products unfit for consumption.

These bans follow last year's recalls of Chinese-produced toxic toothpaste and lead paint-coated toys, as well as the FDA's ban on Chinese seafood contaminated with traces of illegal veterinary drugs.

sounds like retribution to me.

Maybe these manufacturers thought they could get away with the same kind of thing that China tries to get away with.

Buy American

China sucks!!!!!!!!!!!

China has problems that need to be addressed - but the real issue is the garbage we put into our bodies everyday. I have to imagine that if more people researched and realized what is considered "food" - they would remember what real food is...

Fanta and Pringles may not be poison... but they may as well be. Fanta and Pringles are a far greater risk to Americans (over the long term) than Osama and Terrorism.

Well, it may be retribution - but buy American as a response? Have you ever been inside a food manufacturing plant?

Are you aware that currently, food producers are allowed to put around 20,000 chemicals in our food - and they don't have to tell us, or the FDA because it's "proprietary" information?

You think that film of those half-dead cows being put into the meat supply was an abberation?

Sure, China has problems. Everyone does. I have always felt that the pot was calling the kettle black, if ya know what I mean....

We need to clean up our own messes before we start screaming about everyone else's. If our food was properly produced and inspected - we'd have the ability to properly inspect and regulate food from other places. The first thing isn't true, so there's no possibility of the second.

I'm not surprised by American companies poisening the entire world just to make a buck. I think it is just pathetic that the MSM pitched the Chinese as the evildoers in the "bad" products fiasco.
The reason we got dangerous goods is that our Capitalists go to China and negotiate down for every last penny on price. Rather than lose the business(for which the business owner would be punished by the Chinese Government because their #1 priority is job creation so the peasants don't revolt), the Chinese busines owner finds a supplier at the price point the Americans want. So the paint's got lead in it -- so sorry. AMERICA GOT WHAT THE AMERICAN COMPANY WAS PREPARED TO PAY FOR IT.

Let's not blame the Chinese because Americans are CHEAP ruthless negotiators who endanger everyone in their quest to make a buck. The rot is here in our own back yard and our government does nothing but give them more freedom to do even worse things because corporations OWN every politician in office with campaign donations and promises of future positions with them doing absolutely nothing but drawing a ridiculously high paycheck. Nepotism at it's ugliest indeed.

The Chinese have found a very creative way of pushing back in a pot/kettle is black manner. I kind of think it's humerous!

I think their priorities are misguided as this is from the nation that only recovers and recycles 50% of the lead from their lead acid battery production and consumer use. Half of the lead goes into their environment. The U.S. manages to capture 95% of the lead used in batteries. I'm sure there are countless other examples but this is the one that comes to my mind.

The United States is in debt to China that NOW has their own capitalists running their own manufacturing economy and do not need United States products. The United States capitalists and our government has thrown away our powerful manufacturing economy running headlong into only a financialization/consumer debt economy, which is the last stage before a nation's power is totally lost, because all the wealth of the nation that could be gathered to get our capitalistic manufacturing economy back running will be siphoned off by the capitalists, who will evacuate to other more powerful countries where they will be able to capitalize even further, and some have already made the move. I don't call this patriotic, but they wave the flag high.

Since the REPUBLICAN Reagan administration the United States has been giving up the manufacturing economy, and the Bush administration has been the final straw bringing the United States government down to running on borrowed money, just to destroy the common populations social structure. That refund will not start an economy that has been thrown away. Nearly everything you look at is made in some other country.

It will be no less than a miracle if Obama can pull the United States out of the mess the DLC and REPUBLICANS have wrought on our country; the Clinton's being a part of the DLC REPUBLICANS in the Democratic Party.

China has nothing to fear from the United States. The United States can refuse China's toys, but the United States doesn't manufacture any more, so people in the United States will just have to do without whatever products the Chinese see little reason to make like United States citizens want.

I agree, corporate capitalist REPUBLICANS and the REPUBLICAN corporate DLC have been in control of the United States economy for a long time, and products in the United States have slipped account lack of concern for the consumer. The USA is no longer relying on a manufacturing economy --- instead the United States is relying on citizens to be consumers of other countries goods for the United States economy and it doesn't make sense to the average citizen, but the wealthy capitalists, made wealthy by the United States bounty, see little need to spend their money restoring the manufacturing economy or the infrastructure in the United States, therefore; manufacturing, buildings, dams, bridges, etc. of the infrastructure is no longer of government concern, as corporations are now running our government.

There will be little if any actual concern by the capitalists in the United States account China doesn't want 593 of the United States products, because the United States government has fulfilled no longer being a manufacturing economy, and their capitalistic war missions in Afghanistan and Iraq were accomplished for a continued revenue stream into capitalistic coffers.

When Bush said MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, it meant their planned revenue stream had been accomplished, that was all. Bush knew he wasn't going to stop the war, because for capitalists war must continue, war is too profitable to let die.

Let's start worring about our own and not the rest of the world. Why don't we try making our own government again, buy the people and for the people instead of for big corporations. Let's clean up our own act and stop blamming everyone else. Take resposibility people.

The toxic chemicals can be found in all that we eat, but concentrations of cancerous additives such as sodium fluoride are becoming widespread. The corporations's misguided intent is to reduce population numbers by poisoning people; even if people get sick from it the pharmaceutical companies - owned also by these corporations - make billions of dollars. Scientists must stop being slaves to the corporate masters, and expose these dark agendas, by alerting the world on trusted websites, news magazines, and TV conferences (those that are not owned by the corporations). The world is being manipulated by these corrupt, greedy, polluting mega multinationals that are ruining the health of our children, and the health of our planet for money. The time to wake up and bring change is NOW. This type of criminal action must not be tolerated by any country.

I think it is irresponsible of you to juxtopose the two issues as though there is certainty they are related. My guess is they are not.
