Palin Polls
Editor and Publisher summarizes the first post-Palin polls:
Here's a finding from Gallup: Among Democratic women -- including those who may be disappointed that Hillary Clinton did not win the Democratic nomination -- 9% say Palin makes them more likely to support McCain, 15% less likely.
From Rasmussen: Some 38% of men said they were more likely to vote for McCain now, but only 32% of women. By a narrow 41% to 35% margin, men said she was not ready to be president -- but women soundly rejected her, 48% to 25%.
Only 9% of Obama supporters said they might be more likely to vote for McCain.
Overall, voters expressed a favorable impression of her by a 53/26 margin, but there was a severe gender gap on this: Men embraced her at 58% to 23%, while for women it was 48/30.
And by a 29/44 margin, men and women together, they do not believe that she is ready to be President.

I am a recovering Independent that has gone Democrat. I am one of those women that everyone is chasing for a vote. I am, also, offended by the choice that John McCain made to pick Palin as a running mate. Once again, it shows that his judgment is unscrupulous. Yes, I supported Hillary Rodham Clinton and would have loved to have seen a woman in the White House but Palin is no Hillary. This is a slap in the face to all intelligent women all over the United States, whether they are Republicans or Democrats. I supported Hillary based upon her history and policy initiatives. How dare John McCain and Republicans try to pacify my beliefs, my efforts, and my labor by putting someone on his ticket that has no more experience or credentials to be President than I do? Then to add insult to jury, all of the news commentators are saying you can’t be mean to her because she is a woman, WHY NOT! If McCain wins, she will be second in line to the Presidency. God forbid something happens to that man; then what, do you think that Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is going to be nice to her? The future of this country is not a joke. I am outraged! John McCain chose to overlook viable candidates (that have been preparing for this position and are aware of the major issues that we face today) so that he too could have a historical moment. I am now a foot soldier for Senator Barack Obama and Senator Joe Biden. I am proud to support Senator Obama, our next President of the United States of America.
I agree with the comment posted by "Tonia". McCain thought he would get women voters to vote for him because he picked a women as a VP? No, he will not get my vote. Any common sense female voter will know that this woman stands against everything Hillary Clinton stood for. I need a president that understands and will defend the constitution of the United States of America. I will proudly vote for OBAMA.

For a sizable percentage of Americans, that perception would be reason enough to vote for McCain/Palin.

Palin Polls?
What could the average poll respondent possibly know about Sarah Palin 6 hours after they first heard her name, other than her sex and her party affiliation?
Polls taken at this point in time have about as much validity as a poll asking people's opinion of hypothetical space aliens we've never yet encountered.
Anyway, I'm sick-to-death of the politicians and their media pals trying to run this nation, their campaigns, and what they report to the public on Polls.
The politicians should run the country according to what the Constitution empowers them to do, and no more.
The media, when they report on politics and government, should report on what the politicians are doing. Not what some talking head thinks the public thinks about what the politicians are doing.
There's my 2 cents.

The outrageously corrupt REPUBLICAN EXTREME that has driven the United States into a 53 TRILLION DOLLAR DEBT under the Bush administration, certainly should have their EXTREME agendas made into comedy, or the corruption will never stop.
Knowing the debt the people have been place under, it is overwhelmingly comical to think that any of the American people of the COMMON POPULATION, the proletariat, would choose another 4 or more years of the same, which is what corporate conservative McCain and corporate conservative Palin is.
Comedy helps and I hope through comedy at least some of the American people will wake up to the REPUBLICANS destruction of our nation.
The RIGHT WING EXTREME hopes to continue through McCain and Palin the exact same agenda as they pushed rampantly through the Bush administration; therefore, the REPUBLICANS' EXTREME agenda must be laughed off and discouraged by the American people; otherwise, America as we once knew it will be no more.
Our country, the United States, has been placed into debt far more than all the combined wealth of our nation for centuries. The people of the United States will be lucky just to pay the interest on $53 TRILLION DOLLARS, much less get rid of the debt, but Obama has chosen to try to save our country for the sake of humanity. The RIGHT WING EXTREME has chosen to move to China and leave the Common Population holding the bag. It is time for the genteel lumpen-proletariat REPUBLICANS to realize that they are not aristocrats and come home to the Democratic Party, unless they can afford to live in China.

I'd like to see Hillary come out and talk about the importance of this.
Palin is a slap in the face.
Do they really think we are "gender voters"?
Someone listened to the mainstream media too much, and based their VP decision upon it! LOL.

David:
Palin is a REPUBLICAN. Hillary Clinton is a DLC-DEMOCRAT. Do you think McCain should have chosen Hillary Clinton? How could McCain not choosing Hillary be a slap in Hillary's face? Do you mean since Hillary is a leader in the Republican funded Democratic Leadership Council?
I am not a gender voter. I vote for who I think will represent ME as a member of the COMMON POPULATION. Issues are insignificant and should only be discussed within the party's constituents. The REPUBLICANS have held power 8 years and even though they talk pro-life, haven't changed anything significantly about abortion rights, so they like abortion rights like they are and REPUBLICANS have no problem making up reasons to kill people. REPUBLICANS only choose to use the pro-life abortion rights issue as a wedge issue to scare Christians into thinking that a Christian can only vote for Republicans, and the weak minded follow the REPUBLICANS two-choice (binary) emotional rhetoric, propaganda; but if Christian people will think, they will see how the REPUBLICANS are controlling them through their emotions and it is all smoke and mirrors. Obama/Biden is the only choice on November 4.

This would be relevant except it neglected two major constituencys that will also vote.
Republican women and Independents will love this choice.

This choice is political genius.

The choice of Gov. Palin is an insult and demonstrates that McCain is prepared to grovel to the far, radical right to become president. He is the the Charley McCarthey dummy to the worst elements in the republican party.

First of all, I was a Hillary Clinton supporter. I am 60 years old. I lived through the 60's. I watched and participated in women's battles for equal rights and the right to determine what they did with their bodies. I remember the "good old days" when women "had" to get married--not necessarily because they were pregnant but because they needed a man to support them.
John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin is a slap in the face to all women. Here she is at 44 the recipient of all that women went through to gain power and she is willing to sell out the majority of her sex? The MSM thinks that the Hillary supporters will turn their back on the Democratic Party just because McCain nominated this woman? Please. Does everyone think that a woman gives up her brain when she votes? Most of the women I believe who supported Senator Clinton did so because she represented the same struggles that a LOT of women have been through in their lives. A struggle that is not over by a long shot, obviously. Does anyone remember that African-American men were given the vote before women were allowed to vote? We want to be EQUAL, we want RESPECT, we want to be seen and appreciated for our brains as well as for our wombs. And Palin is no Clinton. The MSM has got to get that straight. All of us should be posting and emailing directly to MSNBC, CNN and FOX and all the other networks and magazines how outraged we are by McCain's choice. Not preaching to the choir.

Politicians, especially politicians like McCain, do not care who they slap. They are all about winning any way they can. The egregious thing McCain has done is not attack the perpetrators of the ad about Obama being linked to terrorist, specifically Bill Ayres once a member of the infamous Weathermen of the '70s. McCain was smeared by Karl Rove and Co. when he ran in 2004. A simple telephone canvass asked North Carolinans if they would vote for McCain if they knew he fathered a child out-of-wedlock with a black woman. Southerners could not accept that from McCain and never questioned the validity of the implication of the question. He lost to GW, and we've been cursed ever since. Now he approves of smearing Obama by not going after the people who are smearing him. If he had any character at all, he would destroy what they are doing. But, no, he simply says he had nothing to do with the ad and leaves it at that. McCain may turn out to be as evil as GW, if he is not already. And Palin for VP? Might as well put my 20-year-old granddaughter up for the offce; She's just as qualified as Sarah.

Interviews with younger voters show them laughing at this girl for getting pregnant. I assume most of them know how to use birth control. Do you think the Palin household pushes 'abstinence?' More proof that strategy doesn't work.
Palin is an extreme right-winger - against abortion, of course, but also against the teaching of evolution, against stem cell research, against environmentalism and the man-made effect of global climate change - nothing George Bush wouldn't like. She doesn't know anything about international politics, and has not even ventured an opinion on the 'surge.'
McCain's vetting of her was shallow, according to the NY Times. He decided to 'hire' her soon after his first meeting with her. Which goes to show how poor McCain's judgment is - Mr. Snap. They had been looking into Pawlenty and Mr. Morman for a long time.
Ask yourself this, how many people would show up in Berlin to hear Ms. Palin make a speech? Question answers itself. The only people that see this as a stroke of 'genius' are the extreme right-wing, which McCain needed to get on-board. Independents will see it as a crass ploy to get female votes (why not Olympia Snow, for instance...a competent person) and will be offended by her extreme right views and shallow credentials. In fact, today the news has come out that she recently spoke at a convention of people who want Alaska to secede from the United States. And this is who the Republicans nominated for the post of Vice President of the ... United States?
Amazingly bad choice. Let's nominated a 'hockey mom' with a husband who likes snowmobiling! A real bridge to nowhwere - which she lied about not supporting.

Why not Olympia Snowe? She is 20 years older than Palin, and "too moderate." Sadly, this election (continues) to be about TV Q and the sound bite of the moment. I look at my 10 year old son and my heart is sickened to think that so many voters seems to simply not understand that putting a pro-life pro-NRA ticket in power will potentially scar their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren - Supreme Court appointements being the least of it . . .

Ahh, that "Why not Olympia Snowe" should have been in quotes. Forgive the other 2 typos and tell me why no one speaks of Carol McCain and the manner in which McCain dumped her circa 1980. For the past year I, a liberal and former Democrat, have been determined to vote for whomever the Republicans ran for President, just to punish the Democrats for being so spineless and offering no real opposition to the right wing agenda. It was hard to imagine anything that could change my mind on this, but McCain may have found it. Chosing someone so blatantly unprepared to be President and so divisively allied with far, far right positions is about the most cynical move a presidential nominee could make. I am insulted, maybe enough to throw up my hands and return to the democrats. Obama has shown no more leadership on issues than the rest of his party, but he does not take me and my fellow voting Americans for fools.
Shame on McCain.

I am thrilled by this choice. She is "just" the candidate for VP, but has MUCH MORE executive experience than does the Presidential hopeful Obama himself. She's a super feminist icon. She not only is highly successful in business and politics, but has done so while also excelling on the family front and manages to be quite a serious hiker/climber/hunter/camper just for fun. I couldn't do it.
I am astonished by the venom directed at her. I suspect most of the classless nay-sayers are ideologically motivated and obfuscating their agenda (of promoting the DP ticket at any and all costs) with ad hominem attacks on this lady and her family. For example, as a proponent of abstinence from sexual activity outside of marriage, she is being painted as a hypocrite because her daughter succumbed to temptation. Huh? I require my children to be honest and honorable in their dealings with people. That's how I've raised them. If my teenage daughter were to be caught lying, would I be painted a hypocrite? This is insane. Besides, for a her as a Christian, the sin is the act... giving away something sacred which rightfully belongs only to one's spouse. The moral and spiritual consequences are seen to be grave. All the sexual-recruitment education in the world would not sanctify the act for a believing Christian. A condom is not a wedding ring. However, because of Palin's family's values, there will be a wedding ring. Some tears and repentence for a lapse of teenage judgment, but a wanted and loved child/grandchild that will be embraced as a gift from God with undiminished worth and dignity. This because of Palin's family's values. Sounds like their living them out in the real world without hypocricy!
For the record, I am a Libertarian. As an exception to my normal pattern, this election I'll be voting GOP. I see it as the Maverick Independents vs. the Marxist Leninists. Sure, I'll still have to hold my nose regarding some issues important to me, but... I can't remember that not being the case.

My wife and I own a small business that we started by putting all of our saved earnings on the line. Right after Palin was announced as VP candidate for the GOP, a man from Alaska wandered in. I asked him what he thought of her. He told me he's a die-hard liberal, but he really likes Sarah Palin. Even if you don't agree with her position, this Alaskan said, you have to respect her for sticking to her guns, and being unequivocal about it. This fellow pointed out that she stood up to Big Oil and stuck it in their eye, and made them pay in Alaska. He suspects that the only reason Big Oil is behind McCain/Palin is to get her out of Alaska where she has been a thorn in their side.
Interesting perspective. I personally don't know her and am trying to read and learn as much as I can from unbiased sources. The level of political discourse in America has sunk so low that ignorance rules and blatant, ridiculous lies are touted for and against both the left and right. With the level of ignorance abounding, it's a good thing that less than 1/2 of American's vote!

Yes there MAY be a wedding ring but that doesnt mean the marriage will last. MOST marraiges where the couple are young and forced to marry because of pregnancy FAIL...and there are stats to back that up. I feel for her daughter that because Mommy doesnt believe in birth control now MUST be a mother NO MATTER WHAT. This will severly affect her life in a negative way if the stats play out. And it proves that teaching abstinence does not work...even in the most Christian and right wing of households. Nope. Youre gonna have to do better than this.

Many of you do not get it. Palin is not here to bring in the womens vote although she will bring in a few undecided women.
Her purpose is to bring back the true conservatives (who were going to sit out another necon election)and she has done that very well.
Please far left liberals keep attacking her on these petty things you have come up with so far. That will bring the undecided to the R side in droves as they see how petty and biting the far left is. Americans are losing their respect for the anointed ruling class and embracing plain spoken folks like Palin.
The MoJo analysis on this poll is why I read the polls and don't listen to left or right leaning politicians.
BTW that same Rassmussen poll said that 51% of Americans think that MOST reporters are trying to torpedo Palin. As the petty attacks go on that number will grow!

Of Course Sarah Palin will get a significant slice of the Hillary vote. But you know if Bobama had done the right thing and picked Hillary for VP then Sarah Palin would not have got the Republicans VP nomination. We would have had none of this exciting stuff and the Dems would be sweeping to victory without raising a sweat. So it is Bobama's own fault that Palin is rockin his boat.

Personally, I saw part of the woman's speach and she did not impress me at all. She didn't seem overly intelligent and appeared more interested in attacking the competition than in informing us why people should vote for her and McCain. Came across to me as a frustrated comedian - she appeared to take great joy in making denigrating remarks against the democrats and seemed to think her nasty remarks were humorous. We need someone who takes the concerns of the majority of Americans (not just the mega rich) seriously and whose aim is to work to make things better for everyone. This woman is definitely NOT that person. She struck me as a lot like Bush - holding contempt for everyone who disagrees with her. Also, the VP is supposed to be a PR person with other countries. I don't think she has the public relations skills to deal with other countries without getting America into trouble. Other countries used to like America - now, thanks to Bush and his crony's, we are hated by other countries. I don't believe Ms. Palin is capable of restoring good relations with other countries. Has anyone even considered the age factor in regards to McCain? He's had health problems and although I don't trust McCain to run this country, I definitely would NOT want Palin taking over should something happen to him.

It is NOT sexist to have questions about this woman's policies, nor is it sexist to be concerned about the fact that she is under investigation in her state.
If McCain (God forbid!) should become president, she may very well have a lot of input. So, she DOES need to answer questions directed at her views and policies without anyone programming her.
One policy of hers I find disturbing is the fact that she is said to have cut funding for a program for pregnant teenagers. It is disturbingly ironic, in view of the position her daughter is in. She reminds me of George Bush in a dress--seemingly folksy but with the same abrasive, my-way-or-the-highway personality.

I am a mom and wife and anyone that teaches their young children how to kill a defensless animal is not much of a woman or mother. Animals have a hard enough time surviving without some egomaniac coming at them in a helicopter with a high powered rifle and killing them. To me there is no difference between Palin and Michael Vick (ALL IN THE NAME OF THE MIGHTY DOLLAR) It's not even for food. If I were her child I would be frightened that she would skin me for a few bucks. Also another discusting fact is that she has rape victims pay for their own rape kit.
