Palin Is the Right's Obama
Via Andrew, here's an astute point from a writer at the conservative Power Line blog:
We conservatives have had a good time ridiculing the Obama phenomenon, especially its messianic feel -- the willingness of its adherents to pour so much hope and belief into such an empty, or at least incomplete, vessel -- and its elevation of "narrative" over substance.
It turns out that we were dying to have basically the same experience.
The Right has repeatedly accused Obama of being a blank slate upon which his supporters draw what they want to see. Whatever "hope" and "change" are to them, that's what Obama supposedly stands for. But my experience at the Republican convention was that Palin plays the exact same role for the GOP. I mentioned this in my video dispatch. If John McCain was too old and stiff, she was the new blood and the energy the ticket needed. If McCain was too moderate, she had the conservative credentials the ticket needed. If McCain was too wishy-washy on abortion, she was the committed pro-lifer the ticket needed. And so on.
The difference is, Obama has spent significant amounts of time defining the change he seeks — just look at the middle 20 minutes of his convention speech from Denver. Palin has never made that effort — she's only been around a week and has never spoken to the press!

I think that a lot of people are going to start realizing this very soon. I read an article today, (here: http://weblogs.newsday.com/entertainment/tv/blog/2008/09/oprah_five_reasons_why_palin_s.html)
on five reasons that Oprah should put Palin on. I find number four the most interesting, if Palin would like to enjoy the spotlight in a meaningful way, let's have her debate with another large opposing press force. After all it's fairly easy to lob insults at a convention where practically everyone is set to agree with you.
That and, as the reporter points out, such an interview would probably be a bloodbath. I'm sure if people appealed to their baser instincts for a moment, you'd see that an Oprah/Palin cage match would make a lot of people from every political leaning smile.
She is dynamite! Real star power and its also fun to watch the media in their feeding frenzy. As these next 60 days pass, we will get to know her better. I can tell you now, I like her better every time I hear her speak.

I don't think you'll see her on the TV news shows until after the VP debate. She's prepping full time for that, and that prep is what will allow her to face Bob Schieffer or George Stephanolpoulos.

"I can tell you now, I like her better every time I hear her speak."
That's because the more time she has with her minders, the more that she can learn the party line and repeat it verbatim.
How do you maintain control? Pick up a nobody, force feed them their lines, get them elected and they will be in your debt forever...a la W. She’s just another neo-con puppet with Cheney’s hand up their ass.

Palin is the female version of a "Manchurian Candidate". I have rarely witnessed a greater aggregation of hand-fed BS in my life. I'm taking bets on a replacement VP candidate by 10/15/08.

Why are they trying to hide her away from the press?
It will not help, if she can be one heartbeat away from the preidency she had better be able to face a few pathetic lapdog media types.
Cheesus it comes across as weak and very secretive - Just like Bush - nobody likes that.
It is not our fault nobody really knows her or her positions on issues. McCain wants to bring this to the table with less than 2 months before people vote?
They had better change course and make sure she gets as much press as possible or he just threw the whole election to Obama.
Nobody wants Peggy Hill with her finger on the button while speaking in tongues and listening to god.

We are comparing apples to oranges in more ways than one when we compare Palin's experience with Obama's. Keeping in mind that she is running for VP, NOT Commander in Chief, here are some facts from US history regarding US presidents:
Sixteen State Governors have subsequently become President:
Jefferson, Monroe - Virginia
Van Buren, Cleveland, T Roosevelt, FD Roosevelt - NY
Polk, A Johnson - Tennessee
Hayes, McKinley - Ohio
Wilson - NJ
Coolidge - Mass
Carter - Georgia
Reagan - California
Clinton - Arkansas
GW Bush - Texas
In addition, two Territorial Governors later became President
Jackson - Florida
WH Harrison - Indiana
Sarah Barricuda's background not only has her primed to be "a heartbeat away" from the presidency, she has the experience that many US presidents have had.
...And Obama?

"I am not denying that Sarah Palin may have great skills. She may well. I am insisting that neither you, nor I, nor John McCain has any valid reason to believe that she does. This is not an argument about the attributes she lacks. It's an argument about the information we lack. I am pleading with my fellow conservatives: Please demand more and better knowledge before you commit yourselves to a political leader. That's all."

Just like Cheney with Bush, Rove or someone like Rove will be the McCain/Palin brain, and the CONSERVATIVE RIGHT WING will continue leading in the same way they have for the past 8 years, regardless of what she or McCain say.

Not to miss the point of the original blogger's post, but, it occurs to me that one would want to "pour" hopes and dreams into a "vessel" that is "empty," otherwise our hopes and dreams would simply dribble onto the floor and it would take ages to recollect them from the ground, and they might even evaporate. McCain is certainly a full vessel, but full of what? could he already be full of other people's hopes and dreams? Whose dreams? Certainly not mine, and certainly not those in the best interests of the majority of the American people.

Obama has energized people because he is the real deal. People see his smarts, integrity and common touch and relate with him.
Palin is George Bush in lipstick.
Lets not underestimate Obama. He actually defeated Hillary Clinton, who is a very brilliant senator and whose husband's years were the most prosperous in US history. Compared to
them McCain and Palin are nothing.

It has become quite obvious that the Sarah Palin VP-ticket "was brought to you" by the same slick & sleazy Republican
Slime-machine that gave this
country Bush/Cheney and the rest of the NeoCon-Zionist-
right wing warmongers the last time around.
Some McCain pick here - forget about it !
The basic Idea behind is to make this a shrewed "cheap marketing gig", some way of fooling these same stupidly blind American Voters again.
Why? Because absurd as it may sound, this whole Palin thing is coming across as just a nicely wrapped package , designed and intended for the obvious sale...in the form of Sarah Palin,a temporarily substitute ... to the rather naive "female" public and for the sole purpose of winning this upcoming Election. Period.
Bottom Line :
Once the Election would have been won,Palin would suddenly
resign over night and their
from the beginning designated,
GOP / McCain`s #1 VP-choice
Joe"The Scum Traitor"Lieberman
would replace her at once !
You think this is absolutely nuts and completely crazy .... don`t be surprised or shocked ...... always remember:you are dealing with the evil empire that gave us Bush/Cheney ! !

I have noticed that the media will say what Obama said and what Palin's answer is and completely ignore McCain. Apparently the RIGHT has determined that on McCain's own McCain doesn't have a chance, but Palin is not fit to be McCain's brain. Palin is another Cheney, probably worse. Obama cares about people therefore he will be a much better choice than McCain. Biden has lots of experience, has saw the error of his ways and has given up representing the Republican's DLC, so Biden will be a much better vice president than Palin. Palin didn't even know what the vice president's job is, how could Palin be any good at the job?
The only choice for the sake of the country is Obama/Biden.

For the RIGHT WING REPUBLICAN EXTREMISTS of John McBush, change is a sinking boat, and the RIGHT WING have Palin balin as fast as she can to save the McBush Boat, so that the RIGHT WING REPUBLICAN CONSERVATIVE EXTREME can give the American people four more years of the same, but John McBush's RIGHT WING BOAT has too many holes in it and Palin' has too much baggage in the boat for Palin's balin to do any good.

Joe, you are a racist. This is a hate free zone here.
Most of the people that oppose Palin are racists. The racists are unhappy that Palin is 10 points ahead of that other racist, Obama, the magic Muslim.

Enough with the petty name calling, There are children on both sides of the Isle that think their opinion matters, it doesn't. I personally hate the GOP, they are wonderful at misleading, and getting away with lies that the, so called, liberal press lets them get away with.
We cant let the GOP split this country in half yet further, we must seek reconciliation and unity or risk loosing what we have left of our country.

Hey,
The only way we will LOOSE our county is if, you Socialists win, and every abnormal desire becomes legal under obama and his baby momma...
We are fighting for the very fabric of our society, and will we will make sure that the socialist playbook is defeated..:-)

Bill, a more likely way we'll LOOSE (sic) our country is if the Communist Chinese call in the debt that they've been loaning to the "spend, spend, and spend some more" republicans.
And if "abnormal desire becomes legal" there will be far fewer republican scandals occurring in public restrooms.
