John McCain and the NRA Make Nice

McCain is speaking at the NRA today, as part of his quest to woo traditional parts of the Republican base. Like with so many other situations, McCain has a history opposing the group he now seeks to cozy up with. Here's McCain in 2000:

For its part, the NRA called McCain "one of the premier flag-carriers for enemies of the Second Amendment." Nowadays, though, the organization is ready to play ball. Wayne LaPierre, the NRA's executive vice president told the press that there are "vast numbers of areas" where McCain and the gun lobby agree. And McCain showed last year that he can parrot the right talking points when necessary: "I strongly support the Second Amendment and I believe the Second Amendment ought to be preserved — which means no gun control."

I think if the blue collar pro NRA 'Regan' Democrats know the truth about McCain then Obama will better be able to challenge him, because if McBush is bad on guns it just becomes a choice between the lesser of two evils for them.

If ever there was a single-issue voter on the right, it is the supporters of the Second Amendment. Their votes will not be going to BHO in any circumstances. They may stay home, or they may vote for Bob Barr, but the Democrats are never an option.

Hey jkp, I know at least one guy who is pro second amendment and who gives money and votes to the Dems, although he doesn't like the stance of the average Dem on guns. There are some gun owners who would never vote Dem bu there are others who would, after all the worlds not black and white.
