A Brief Introduction

Since Mother Jones published its first issue in 1976, we’ve been passionately dedicated to delivering fearless, independent, and scrupulously truthful investigative journalism. It’s never been more important—because truth, accountability, and democracy don’t take care of themselves: We need to fight for them over and over again. You can help us do this.

To help ensure a vibrant democracy for generations to come, a group of longtime donors have offered to match your future commitment to Mother Jones right now!

Thanks to these donors, if you join the Mother Jones Legacy Society by including us in your will or estate plan today, a donation equal to 10 percent of the expected value of your gift will be made to Mother Jones right now in your honor…up to $10,000.

For example, a future legacy gift of $50,000 will trigger a $5,000 matching gift today. Or a future gift of $100,000 will trigger a $10,000 gift. If you choose to keep your future gift amount private, $1,000 will be donated now in your honor.

How the Bequest Challenge Works

The Bequest Challenge is a campaign to inspire our supporters to make bequest commitments for the future and, in return, help us earn much-needed challenge grant dollars for use today!

Through the Bequest Challenge, you can maximize the impact of your future bequest and estate plans.

Step 1:
Name Mother Jones in your will or living trust or as a beneficiary of your retirement or financial account. New commitments and previously established bequest plans can qualify.

Step 2:
Download a Bequest Challenge form here or click here to fill it out online.

Step 3:
A group of longtime Mother Jones donors will make a gift right now to Mother Jones in your honor. They will donate a gift equal to 10 percent of the value of your future gift, up to a maximum grant of $10,000. If you’d prefer to keep the estimated value of your gift private, they will donate $1,000 in your honor.
